I’ve had that same setup 15 years. Take the ends off the hoist rack off and mount the pulleys to a long 2x4 the same width as the shell. Move them out wider.Takes strain off the hoist and it works much better! Great work! This allows you to hoist the shell higher up too!
Good video , I made a similar setup , but a tip for you is to paint marks on floor at left rear tire on side and front and back when you have the truck in perfect position for the next time removing or installing to make it easier. You can look back out the door and position truck perfect every time.
Good job. Have you ever thought of buying a 2500 # winch ? You could run a pully system and mount the winch to the wall. Or, mount it to the ceiling and go from there. You can get a wireless control one for under $200.
Yeah i thought about alot of different options but i was going with the cheapest and easiest way to do it. This was actually even cheaper then doing it all from scratch. With the drill it really only take a 1 extra minute.vs having a winch thats ready.
Enjoyed your video. Great idea! I'll be heading to Home Depot to get the kit. Mine will be a little trickier because my garage ceiling is at about a 30 degree angle and not flat like yours!
great video, thank you. If your sheet was on the 2x4s and laying on the ground, would the hoist cables reach down that far? Or will it only work if the shell is at truck bed height? My Ceiling is about your ceiling height. THX
Wondering if you are still satisfied with this setup. Seems like a good way to go. Can't seem to find it online though. Anyone know if it's been discontinued, or just supply chain issues? Thanks!
I just find the balance point of the cap and lift it straight up over my head and walk out of the back of my truck there not that heavy the key is finding the balance point. Then I store it under my back deck it's so much faster. I had trucks with 8 foot beds and never had a problem taking the cap on and off by myself.
Maybe with an aluminum shell. But the last two fiberglass shells have been over 200 lbs. There's no way I could lift it over my head and walk with it. This way it's also out of the way and out of the elements/critters.
You are a beast! LOL! I just bought a used shell that the previous owner obviously took off by himself because there were chips along the bottom edge. This allowed me to get it at a fraction of the price and some door edge trim covered it up nicely. Took 3 of us to carefully place it on my truck.
I would just search for similar products. I heard they stop making them about a year after i made the video. Looks like they finally are done with the inventory.
You would have to make sure your shell has the structure to take the weight of itself so it doesn't crack. Also you would need to do some silicone or something to prevent water leaking in. Thirdly the asthectics of having I bolts sticking out of a $2000 dollar shell wouldn't be that great.
You can raise it all the way until it meets the crank. However I didn't like the geometry since the eye bolts are further out than the platform that comes with the product so I only go that high. But it's hight enough to walk under and drive a 6" lifted truck on 35s.
Well as im sure you figured out. You only need to raise the shell a couple inches off your truck, then just back in everytime when it is stored like that. 👍

This is the solution I was hoping someone had already figured out. I like the idea with the additional straps too. Thank you!
Glad I could help. I couldn't find anything on RUclips this simple when I searched so I was hoping people would like this.

I have a paint mark on the wall that I line up the mirror with. But that's an idea.
Great explanation and demonstration of your setup. My garage is too low for my truck but definitely like the setup!
Great idea with the supports! I'm hauling mine up under a tree...
Good job.

Awesome, I see they discontinued I emailed the mfg, hopefully they come available soon.

Thanks! Home Depot discontinued it but I put a link to the eBay page in the description above.

The lowest thr cables go is about 4ft off the floor.

Its been fantastic. It sadly has been discontinued. Someone here in the comments has found prior stock on ebay and similiar products out there.
Nice job be safe we happy
I see this video is a few years old , but I was really hoping to find out where this lift system came from ?
Originally Home depot then it was on Ebay and now i havent been able to find it.
Cool! I need the Home Depot link though.
Looks like they stopped selling it. But you can find it on eBay. I put a link in the description.
This would work for my kayak too.
Did that. :)
I like this idea 💡 bro especially u can do it yourself 😊
I looked at that system...but My camper top is the high top and weighs 350-375 lbs. That system is only good for 250 lbs
How’s it holding up after so many years?
Still going strong. I only use it about 5-6 times a year but no worries yet

Here's a video of a guy doing it ruclips.net/video/7mleIlpa2TU/видео.html
Sold out. Any other suggestions

@@aspiringadventure thanks. I subscribed to your page! It's awesome
Your link for eBay is 400 the same one at Amazon is 250. Can you update link for future folks
Thanks for the heads up.
would it work if you installed the i-bolts directly to the top of the camper and attached the ropes via carabiner clip there?

Full size bed or 6.5' box on you chevy?
5ft 8in.
Do you have the dimensions for the 2X4 setup and where you placed the blocks.
Every shell is different size so youll just wanna measure for clearance and the blocks are in the rail channel as shown in the video.
How high is your garage ceiling?
It's around 10-12ft
Could you have raised it higher than shown in the video?

where did you get the mounts that hold your cap to the truck?
They came with the shell when it was bought new. I have seen the clamps on Amazon or any shell dealer can get you them.
Nobody sells these now 😞
What a shame. Its a great product.
Where's the link?
Bottom of the description.
Nice, but now what?
What do you mean? I use it when i need it. Like when i need higher truck bed space.
I thought Jesse Plemons was killed in Breaking Bad .. my bad
Hes got a few of us clones
what if i dont have a 12 foot hi massive 2 door garage?
Well as im sure you figured out. You only need to raise the shell a couple inches off your truck, then just back in everytime when it is stored like that. 👍
Cap!
Thats cheating
What?
