I'm one of the original CBCS authorized witnesses going back to 2014 (was the first approved to witness for Stan Lee) and I'm happy to see so many people now talk about making the switch.
I know Brian!
I wouldn’t touch CGC the trash company after all this... CBCS cases and labels look amazing
I loved the CBCS interview. You need to do more of them. CBCS appears to have greater transparency than that other company, and CBCS can really help themselves not by bashing the other company but by demonstrating CBCS' chain of custody of collectables...😏
“We give comics the best grade we can while still being correct.” SOLD! Always used CBCS, but now I am a customer for life. Plus no newton rings.
The CBCS cases are vastly superior to CGC's in quality and security. They are the only company I use for grading. The only time I ever buy CGC slabs is when they are much cheaper and a deal I just can't turn down, but I always look to see if CPR might bump the grade, and if I think it will I send it off to CBCS to get it out of that CGC slab and into a proper one! Can't wait to see your books when they get back from CBCS!
A CGC grader being interviewed: "After our morning coffee, we unseal the day's mail. Today's shipments from hapless collectors included a Superman #1. Before grading, I took it home that night and read it while in the bathtub."
At this stage, even CGC are sending their books to CBCS for grading.
I have always liked both CGC & CBCS. But you know, CBCS has ZERO newton rings. Their slabs are much tougher. And they look & present really well. Their turnaround times have always been surprisingly fast, imo, though i have heard stories, but it’s never happened to me like CGC. And grader’s notes are included. It drives me insane to not have frigging grader’s notes on my pristine boon that somehow got an 8.0 after I looked at it under a magnifying glass with a light attached to it (true story; & I’ve been pressing/cleaning for years). It is WORTH IT. CBCS from here on out.
Honestly, this was one of the best episodes you guys have ever done. I’m not one for grading to begin with but this was absolutely jam-packed with new information.
This is a great video and support for CBCS, I've never submitted a comic personally to have graded, but I do believe my first submission will be to CBCS. I'm small-time, just a regular dude who enjoys collecting comics and don't have any major keys, but I have a few minor ones so I'm excited to try out CBCS service 👍🏼
I missed you guys yesterday at the con 😬 got too distracted checking other stuff out.
The con was dope, I loved it. It's my second time and I'm coming back again next year. Didn't find too much that I was looking for but I did find a high grade animal Man book from the silver age 🤟🤟🤟 looking to slab it with CBCS honestly. Thanks Terry 🙏
I think this 2nd blow to CGCs reputation is gonna turn a good amount of people over to CBCS honestly. Some will still be loyal to CGC because CGC has had a strong foot on the secondary market, but I honestly think a good chunk of people are gonna turn a new leaf and the demand for CBCS slabs are gonna start trending 👍 a bit.
I have a high grade raw Silver Surfer #3 and I want it to match my CGC SS #1 but man.. turning over to CBCS for that one submission is tempting I ain't gonna lie
Great show. Really cool to see some live guests on the show.
Looks like this California comicon was a lot of fun. Just wondering, though how much was admission fee and how much do they charge dealers to have a table? On the East Coast prices have started to skyrocket, and there are less and less comic dealers, and more in the way of Celebrities and other type of vendors at these shows as the comic book dealers are priced out. Is that the same on the West Coast?
Great episode! Loved seeing the Girls Love Stories #2 (I've been looking for that one) and the Cancelled Comic Cavalcade (would love to flip through that just once). However, I did find it interesting that the battery died just as the CBCS guy was about to reveal all the secrets...hmmm.
Lancelot Link #1: I am so there! I would rush home from school to catch the start of this series.
The two Cancelled Comic Cavalcade volumes are legendary, I have only ever seen reprints of a few pages.
Good coverage of CBCS (for those who buy these slab things).
For sure I would love to see more comic grader insider info that was amazing thank you guys so much ..
According to Overstreet's Guide to Grading Comics, a 3.5 should not have a coupon cut out. No book above 1.0 -Fair is allowed to have a coupon cut out, by Overstreet's standards.
The dealer could had said if was an "apparent 3.5 but coupon cut" to get across the idea of the wear factor of how the comic appears.
That Headline Comic with Jack Kirby looks amazing, NICE find!
In 2019 at LA comic con I bought 2 books from Nico a Hulk 340 and a Wolverine 1 limited series both were Newsstand and VERY high grade he sold them both for 100.00 blue chip has earned my friendship and business thanks Nico and thank you Richard and John🤘🤘🤘
I remember the great DC implosion. Prices went from .25 in 1975 to .30 to .35 to .40 to Dollar Comics in 3 years. It priced out my interest as a 13 year old to chase after titles like "DC Superheroes vs Supergorillas" or "Superteam Family"...😏
Silly question. When we say “spine tic” what causes that “tic”on the book?
CBCS from here on.
What’s up John and Richard, hope you guys are having fun
Great info. Enjoy the show. When you talk about downsizing, I'm like 'nah!"
Great show! Love that Atlas shirt.
"They (CBCS) improved their product" 25:40
"Actually , to be perfectly honest with you, the case is several years old" 27:45
😂😂😅
I honestly have no opinion because I just got back into collecting as an adult again 😅 so I just take your guys recommendations ..
The blue chip is my go to guy for big keys at killer prices. Nico will take a loss if it means making a new comic friend/customer
HEADLINE! Great buy! EDIT: what a fun channel. Glad it came up on my feed. subscribed.
Welcome aboard!
2 problems with CBCS.. one is they grade way harsher than CGC, number two is the market/us/you/customers still won't accept CBCS as high value top dollar on resale
Is that a Tudor blackbay on Richard's wrist?
Great show guys but that bluechipcomic guy is awful. I assume you haven't seen his whatnot auctions. Dude preys on new, inexperienced collectors with mystery packs that are full of trash books that he quotes at ridiculous values. Just spend 10 minutes in one of his shows and you'll see what I mean. He's terrible for the hobby.
Yeah, those whatnot shows are bad. I bought one of those bundles and received a Superman 199 that had many features on the cover written over in red ink. That's the thing about whatnot, you can't really inspect the book well over video, especially at the speed sellers are usually trying to sell at. I stopped using whatnot months ago, too much risk.
@@josescomics the key is finding the sellers that are honest and legit and just sticking to them. After a lot of trial and error now I only buy from 5 guys on there and don't even bother with the rest of them. I don't fault people for leaving the app but I do feel bad for the good sellers on there whose books go way below FMV b/c all of the bad sellers have driven so many buyers away.
Whatnot at the start was good. Over time, it became very commercialized with silly games to buy over priced mystery boxes that I deleted app over a year ago.
@@philcamacho127 if you stay away from mystery boxes and worthless exclusives there are tons of deals on there right now. Way better than ebay
Oh man I haven't used Whatnot in like a year but I remember Blue chip and their shows used to be good with none of that mystery box BS. Just selling books while walking around the shop. Taking time and showing stuff in detail before selling it. I wonder what happened.
It doesn’t mater how nice the cbcs cases are cause those books sell for less on the secondary.
Traditional thinking, yep, but we were surprised by the number of heavy, big keys up for sale at this show in new CBCS cases.
🎯 & that's my only problem with CBCS I have several pretty big books for my personal collection with CBCS but if I wanted to sell them they would sell for like 30% under market value... And honestly I think I would have got slightly higher grades on them with CGC
CGC is trash. All their slabs are questionable. Karma is a you know what 😅. CBCS & PGX are smiling right now 😁😁
