Just for fun - a countdown of who I think are the most beautiful actresses from Hollywood's studio era (actresses included must have a film debut pre-1960). Please remember that I can only work with what I've got. If some legendary beauty isn't in this video then odds are that I don't have any of her films and was therefore unable to include her, or maybe I just didn't want to include her because I find others more beautiful. This video is just a bit of fun and should not be taken seriously. Beauty is subjective, there is no definitive list. These are just my preferences.

No, Audrey Hepburn is number one. On any metric you can think of: looks, intelligence, character, personality. Leigh is a strong number 2. The others shouldn't be on the same list with those two. Well, Olivia de Havilland can be on the list thats the only one :)

Trying to pick out the most beautiful from this array is like asking a mother to choose her favorite child. They are all just gorgeous and along with the Hollywood Studio System gave us untold hours of entertainment. We are so lucky to have their films to enjoy over and over again.

I agree - I think there is so much cosmetic surgery available now that women in Holywood are beginning to look too artificial - These women were truly beautiful and if they did have surgery it was minimal - I would have put Ava Gardner as #2 with Liz Taylor as 1

Different era perhaps. Back then, women were viewed differently and were admired by their "classy" lifestyle. Nowadays, thanks to whores taking over the media, all the young girls r growing up mirroring those Hollywood whores
Back then, women were viewed as second class citizens. What's your definition of a whore? A woman who is confident in her body, and takes agency over her body.... because honestly, these women would have been crucified by the media if their skirt happened to be 1 inch too short. It may look glamorous, but it was very restrictive and degrading to just be viewed as a glamorous doll.

Actually, no. It's just back then they would do full makeovers that still looked natural. Have you seen Rita Hayworth or Maureen O'Hara before they hit Hollywood? Frumpy. I was shocked, because I too thought it was natural beauty.

Rick Rodrigues they had personality, emotion, presence, wisdom, elegance, intelligence, charisma... the old Hollywood film making and casting and writing and costume design,everything is so timeless and classic and holds the essence of the human spirit! The entertainment industry today Hollywood/music, etc... is garbage! There are a few exceptional talents(Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, Tom hanks,etc) but anything being released today or in the future is going to be a waste of time and energy...
Back then, they had tight contracts that made them adhere to multiple restrictions. Weight had to stay down, appearances were choreographed, lifestyles were held to a great standard. Nothing like now.
@@camerontaylor7471 The first thing that strikes me when I see actresses from this era is that most of them or maybe all of them behave highly unnatural, not only on screen, but also in interviews etc., what is not the case for many today's actresses. So it does not surprise me that at least half of them had severe problems with drugs, alcohol and psychological problems (Vivien Leigh, Elizabeth Taylor, Marilyn Monroe, just to name a few). For example, looking at how Marilyn Monroe behaves in interviews, I see that she never behaves normally, it is always playing a role - very tasteful indeed, but it is definitely not her natural self. It seems clear to me that if you are admired for playing a role all your life, you will hardly be able to know who you are in person and it will take a toll on your psychological condition.
I've always seen a resemblance between Vivien Leigh and Liz Taylor. Two such different and spell-binding actresses. So beautiful, gifted, and loved. And both suffered so much in this life. 💙💗💜
I believe that Elizabeth Taylor was all natural...I mean I heard there wasn't plastic...or not much... if there was. I wonder if this is also true for Vivien Leigh and the others. Something to think about when choosing...I guess.

Vivien had such an English and Irish face at the time that was different from Hollywood. I think she was very beautiful but it was the EYES. She could cut a glance so sharp that it kinda makes your heart stop and pay attention to her. Her cheekbones were to die for. Her face was so soft but sharp. All she had to so was raise that eyebrow and BOOM- sold. She was still a bit child-like which makes people kind of look twice at pictures or film because of how much naivety she could posses but also, be a firecracker when need be.
Gorgeous as a baby a child young girl and woman she never stopped being beautiful so sad she ended the way she did.

I don't think that VL and her husband Olivier, were the most moral people in the world. However, she had a ton of friends, friends that she kept in touch with and would do anything for, throughout her life. I have read in a biography that she had a very kind and generous side. Too bad for people like herself and Marilyn Monroe that lithium wasn't available at the time. It could have made a huge difference with their mood swings.

Certainly I really liked her too in "Gone with the wind" but, as you have already specified, in that period how many great actresses could have played that role! Firstly the stunning Hedy Lamar and, in my opinion, also Ava Gardner would have been an excellent interpreter, because she was a very "passionate" actress and the role in the film required a protagonist with this prerogative

I didn't know Gene Tierney until I watched this video. I'm speechless in front of her beauty. Actually, they were all beautiful, it's so hard to pick a favorite. Also, Romy Schneider, who is not included in this list, was incredibly gorgeous.
I've known about Gene for a while now, and I'm just surprised that so little people talk about her. Not only was she beautiful, but she was an amazing actress too.

Sophia Loren and Claudia Cardinale are still alive, the music is for those who have passed.

I was astonished at the very delicate beauty of Olivia de Havilland, and my favorite are: Ingrid Bergman, Sophia Loren, Marylin Monroe and of course Elizabeth Taylor! Though Lana Turner and Gene Tierney were special too!
