  • Wanna know the difference between the Garrett Ace 400 and Ace 300 metal detectors? Well, if so I made this video to explain some of the differences as I see them. I don't talk about technical stuff, just what really matters to me like how and why to use certain programs. I also give out some great tips for general metal detecting.

I have the Ace 350 and the AT Pro. I'm not sure if you mentioned it. But the Ace 400 has the iron audio function which the Ace 350 does not. It's a great feature when detecting trashy sites. It helps keep your sanity if it's not too late already. Thanks for your hard work and advice.

Your honesty and integrity stand out way above many of the other comparison videos! Please please continue that type of video. It is so important for all of us to get a complete and unbiased opinion of whatever detector. Trust is a very difficult confidence to earn from vewiers in any kind of presentation. And you my friend are at the absolute top of my list and I personally love every one of the videos you have shared with us. Just look at the number of subscribers you have gathered from the metal detecting community. Again I would be very interested in any type of comparison or simply an honest opinion from you on any detector you use. Thank you for your effort and time you sacrifice to put all this together. The editing of all of this must be a tremendous chore. ATB, and GL and HH.

Does not sound like you are crazy about these two machines. Could you recommend a machine for under $400? My priorities are silver jewelry and silver coins. I also might want so do some shallow water hunting. This would be for a beginner who would like a intermediate machine. Last question,,,,, in jewelry mode, would that detect silver (pre 1964) and gold coins as well as gold and silver jewelry?

A note on discriminating. Years back my buddy hunted with a basic Fisher detector, just a couple of knobs , with almost no discriminating . I was using a Garrett Freedom three with 4 knobs for setting discriminating. He always found plenty of nickels while in all our hunts I found only 2 nickels.. He dug more junk than I, but, found coins I would just miss. As Chigg said to much discrimination might not work in your favor.

I enjoy all of your videos. Your sense of wonder as you explore is so upbeat and positive. Keep up the great work.

I used the ace 250 for a while the gave it to my bro in law, he loves it. A really good starter machine. 300 and 400 are basically the same with different loops. Another thing you didn't mention is the ding dong tone when it's on a coin, or coin sized/shaped target. The tones for other targets is noticeably different than the coin ding dong.

You gave us some good info on these detectors, and I'm in agreement with it all. I bought the 400 because all my other machines were getting a little to heavy for my ageing body to swing for 4 or 5 hours at a time. After swing the 400 I really felt the difference. The larger coil is a little heavy and didn't balance the machine very well so I went ahead and bought the smaller one and now its perfect. The only thing that would make it more comfortable would be in the arm cuff extended up my arm a couple more inches.

  • @billybob1151
    @billybob1151 7 лет назад +2

Excellent, you took your time with each detector, explained their features and modes. The best was how everything worked. Beside about these two detectors, I found it more interesting a "class" between various modes with real world, above ground, test in how modes really make a difference. Unreal in one mode, coin I think, just passed over the gold coin. I use a ATpro in coin mode some of the notches. Sold me, I am going to try out the relic mode now. and get a smaller coil. A old saying, but a experienced Detectorist ( not a word) said the best discriminator is a shovel. Video not to long at all, learned a lot. Thanks!

Great video, Beau. I just purchased a used ACE 350 and this will help a lot with using it. I haven't been detecting for very long and am still learning. The 300 & 400 have the VDI - the 350 doesn't. Either one of those would be an upgrade for me even though I have the 350.

Great video!!! Totally pleased, and excited about your descriptions, and tips. I had an Bounty Hunter 25 years ago. Bought it used in a pawn shop. No instructions, so I had problems just running the machine, and apparently the unit had its own issues. It made noises when you would shake the unit around in the air, as you described in this video.
I've recently been looking for a new interest that would take over my firearms hobby. Something that would allow time to be with family, relax, and enjoy nature. This particular video has helped put me back on track with Metal Detecting.
Despite the trust I lost in the metal detecting equipment in the past, which was partly my fault, for not seeking help, your video has changed my skepticism.
I've watched many Metal Detecting videos in the last month. But, none gave me any thoughts of ever trying them out again, except for your video. It actually gave me the thought of....try Metal Detecting again!!! So. I will be purchasing one for my new hobby.
Thank you for your excellent video.

Ok I’ve had the ace 250 and some of the older Garrett GTI and ads Machines I can say if you are going to get a Garrett the 400 is really a good starter I agree with the 8/5 coil but it does help to use the large coil in places like Fields and pastors where you don’t get a lot of targets but for the money if you are not sure of getting in the hobby or just want to find something you lost a used pawn shop detector that has pin point is sometimes the best way to go I personally picked up a bounty hunter time ranger for $40 and it didn’t even look used

Just wanted to thank you for the end depth of how to use metal detecting on the Garrett 400&300. It has that me understand a lot about them and other machines. I am new to this and I appreciate the information. I just turned 60 and decided to have a new hobby and I chose metal detector. I live on a fixed income and I know I would never be able to afford that but I lease I understand what to expect on these machines and the sounds. I truly enjoy your videos and your adventures. You are a very entertaining. I will be getting probably a cheaper one because I can't afford that being on a fixed income but maybe one day I will if I find something really nice and I can sell. Continue with your videos and stay safe . PS sorry about the last part it's just the mother in me.

    Mr
Aquachigger, I am a recently new subscriber but I was hooked after the first few videos. I served 8 yrs active duty army airborne infantry and have been diving for 15+ years. I think it is absolutely amazing that you find the treasures that you do. I must say, I have watched nothing but your videos on RUclips for the last week and I am absolutely inspired. My birthday is next week and I have told my wife that "I must have a garret at pro. " or I will purchase one on my own! haha. I live in upstate sc and as I'm sure you know the confederacy flourished in these parts. I'm extremely excited to start hunting my local Saluda, Pacolet (near Cowpens battlefields), and the lucious Green rivers as soon as spring arrives. Please keep a "good ole boy" veteran who aspires to reach your level of river treasure hunter in mind. I would absolutely love to be able to start detecting this winter or "late fall." Looking forward to your future videos and best of luck brother.

I live in an area where there was a lot of copper mining in 1800s to early 1900s.
How well would either of these metal detectors work here?
The reason I ask is because there is also a lot of iron.
There is boatloads of copper just lying around, and a lot of unhunted ground I can think of just off the top of my head.

I had a fisher m-scope that worked great until it was twelve years old. I am about to retire and have been looking to get a new detector for my new time requirments. This would put me on a good track. I enjoyed the review and the way you explaned the operation of the two. Seeing how they work from the above ground level explaned well how they work under ground. Yes, it would be nice to see and expland how your equpment that you use works, so we can determined what would for others.

I have the 350; thinking about going with another machine. I looking at the 400, the F44, BH Pro, and T 4000. Which do think is a good value with the greatest ability for general Hunting?

Your explaining is very important to most of us outside of the professionals . I have been watching you for a while and find education is paramount in this field. I know first hand these machines can drive one a little crazy.
Keep up the great work, HH GL & God bless.

I appreciate your honesty and knowledge about these machines, the hobby, and life in general. There are not many people that would openly admit that they would never use a product of a sponsor lol. That's exactly the kind of stuff I've come to enjoy about your videos.

I’m getting an Ace 300. Would a larger loop (if I had to cover a whole beach) fit one? I just want to know incase I wanted to try one. Would you be able to put a loop the size of a 400 on the 300?

Chig, I think that you doing other vids for beginners and the novice crowd would be a good thing! I really enjoy your style of educating, and of course all the hunting videos are awesome! It really doesn't matter if someone else has covered the subject or not. You may have a completely different audience. There is my two cents on the subject, and you didn't even need a machine to find it! :)

Would you recommend the ATX over Minelab SDC2300 or GPX4500? I need something to compliment my XP ORX and Nokta Makro Gold Racer Pro and am thinking PI. I live in Colorado and prospect the rivers and hills.

Wow, what a down to Earth and informative vid. As a long time sub, your love of our earth & wildlife was THE major inspiration to hit the road fulltime (in a tiny rv). I will eventually obtain a detector. I know these adventures will surpass any experiences of the 23 year worldwide military career. Thank you for being a gentleman and sweetheart.

Great review. I bought a larger head for my garret and agree with you. I generally use the smaller one more often. The only time I change to the larger head is when beach detecting to cover more ground.
