- I continue trying to feature sports cards that are affordable for the average collector. In this episode, I look at 40 cards from the 1950s that sold during the month of May. Cards from players like: Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Warren Spahn, Ernie Banks, Roy Campanella, Frank Robinson, Monte Irvin, and many more. Also, we look at some big purchases that took place recently in the community with a handful of "moonshot" cards, including the likes of: Mickey Mantle, Jackie Robinson, Willie Mays and other all time greats. Take a look at my picks for the 5 most mind blowing buys from the month, and let me know which cards surprised you the most.

The '58 Mantle is an example of the card not being faded but the entire image being faded. Perhaps it would have gone for even more, had the seller provided a better photo.
I try to check PSA and SGC databases for better photos when available.
I love seeing the Campanella cards on this value lists, Graig. Thanks for doing these!
Incredible that his cards are so affordable.
Love these videos! They always spark my interest in terms of potential additions to my collection. Last week, I started looking at the 1963 and 1964 Topps NL HR Leaders cards and ended up finding a beautiful 64 with Aaron, Mays, Cepeda, and McCovey in an SGC 6 for $50! Just arrived and I love it!
Fantastic!! Congrats!!
Great deals on great players. I recently started buying bargain HOF auto cards for under $20 a piece. Picked up ungraded Ernie Banks, Frank Robinson, Duke Snider, Bob Gibson, Jim Palmer, Bob Feller, as well as a Pete Rose and each comes with a COA. (Hillshire Farms and Nabisco sets mostly).
I love the nabisco team flakes cards
HOF auto cards under $20 seems like a steal.
It never ceases to amaze me how cheap some of these cards are! So many Snider and Campy cards seem like they're undervalued. Enjoy the show and good luck. I can't wait to see if you pick anything up.
Snider and Campy are criminally underappreciated.
You said the 1951 Bowman Richie Ashburn was "Richie Allen", but I guess you probably already caught that. Just a senior moment I guess. haha I'd like to have a dollar for how many times I've done that with players names.
I must've mispoke. That'll happen from time to time.
Love these recap episodes! I thought the best deal might have been on the '55 Bowman Campy given how nicely it presents, and the Minoso that followed was an incredible bargain.
Agree on the 55 Campy. What a steal.
Curt Flood and Ken Boyer seem like super great buys. The 52 Mantle has some stories in it! I’d love to hear that card speak! (But not for 20k)
Flood....I think he gets more love soon.
Damn the 50s cards are just so amazing! I agree anything above a 3 for PSA of this age is usually pretty nice. I’ve seen some 2’s even and I am a point out all the flaws I wonder how it is.
I totally agree.
Graig, just know I would be a viewer of your 2nd RUclips channel. MidLife Sports Cards And Commons. Looking forward to the vlog, to see what your dad picks up. I wouldn't usually comment on the, ''moon shots'' being under valued, but I think the buyer got a good deal for the 1955 Topps Jackie Robinson. Wow, a Beckett slab made it into the moon shots! I would say, that I am surprised. But it's a Mantle rookie. I agree though, the 1956 Topps is, great looking card.
I bought a Mickey Mantle card last night. It wasn't any of the ones from the video, however but cool to have it in my collection.
Congrats on picking up a Mantle!! That's awesome.
Crazy that the Mantle rookie came down by $30k!!! Great list! Enjoyed!
It was overpriced.
Gave a video like. Always enjoy these videos. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much.
I just completed every Ken Boyer card for my dad- sure didn’t break the bank- I think all of his are undervalued - also completed all of Julian Javier cards cards for my dad- super cool player runs for not much money
Boyer was a stud and is still affordable. Congrats.
Great 👍 show Graig hello. I agree w u 4s and 5s now r nice vintage cards and definitely not low grade
4s and 5s are the sweet spot right now.
Agree with you, if we just talk about HOF players its well….boring! Baseball history is s much more rich than mays, mantle, clemente etc. of course people can collect whatever they want, and thats why its interesting to talk about a wide range of players, at least for me.
Baseball history is bigger than just hofers. No doubt.
Those under 50 were awesome!
I agree. It's fun to do this every month.
Great episode, and good point in the opening about some people only highlighting the regular stars. I've met collectors who have the entire hobby down to 15 or so players. I am still a baseball fan first and a collector second. One dealer I met at the National last year didn't know who Tommy Lasorda was - no idea of the actual sport. I understand he's there as a dealer, but if the game of baseball ended tomorrow, he would have had no idea.
Interesting.
Yikes. Not knowing Tommy Lasorda....was he super young?
Collectors who love the sport of baseball, collect the players they like, example of player who isn't in the hof but cards are more expencive then the average non hof who is very collectable is Maris
I collect raw and also collect hof and non hof,
Awesome stuff!!
I can’t get over the condition and price on that ‘52 Mantle. Wow
I hope to own one at some point, but know that it's highly unlikely.
For the PSA cards, the serial numbers would tend to indicate that many have been recently graded (i.e. numbers that start with an 8 or a 9). General consensus is that they are graded tougher than older graded cards. The fact that these cards appear nicer than the grade but sell at prices more in line with the grade could indicate that people are still generally buying cards based on the grade and not the appearance. What do you think?
Yes. I think you're right. Sometimes cards sell for the eye appeal, but in many cases, cards are selling based on the grade to a large extent, still.
Great vid as always. I LOVED what you said about the HOF. Been saying it forever. To me, that is just an opinion like grading, and I don’t base my collecting on others opinions. The writers are ridiculous and hold grudges, etc. If I saw a player, and I like him, I collect him. I can have my own hall of fame. Waiting for someone else to say he is good enough for me to collect is ridiculous. There are a ton of amazing players and stories that do not have plaques in that building. Don’t just collect what you like, collect WHO you like.
I even collect what I don’t like too. I have a Booger Powell run and he’s not in the hall. Neither is Willie 3 Dog or Pete Rose. I would never have a rose rookie if you gave it to me. It’s fugly. His cards start at 1964.
@@BringingTheHeat-VBC hahaha ya man that card is not pretty! But then again neither is rose lol!
Well said.
LOL.
Great picks. Enjoy the show hope you sell a lot and hopefully you do not use all the money you were saving for the National.
The war chest is growing for the National.
Great content. By the way, Lol, you kept calling Richie Ashburn, Richie “Allen.”
Ha ha. One of those Richie Allen Ashburns is mine. Think what it will be worth if Allen gets into the HOF!
Someone else pointed that out. I'm getting old and misspoke.
It's crazy to me that somebody came down 30k on the Mantle rookie.
Not if it was 30k overpriced.
4 min in and those comments are everywhere. People have not 1 positive bone left, the internet blows and people just love to sound like they are right.
LOL.
I need to read the comments more carerfully, because I don't see the criticisms referred to. It would be a pretty dull channel if only Mantle, Mays and Aaron were discussed!
I read every comment to every video I've ever made.
I really don’t understand the HOF obsession that’s so prevalent in YT. Too many discrepancies for me to put much credence in it.
I feel the same way about “rookie” cards for all players and years… by all collectors
I get that. Some collectors aren't as dialed into the deep history of vintage baseball, and aren't familiar with many of the outstanding players that aren't in the HOF.
