Analysing Ray Classics with Dhritiman Chaterji | 100 Years of Satyajit Ray

- Today, with the rest of the cinephile world, we at Filmkopath celebrate the Birth Centenary of Legendary Indian Film-maker Satyajit Ray. We plan to bring content around Satyajit's cinema across this year and today is just a start.
To discuss Ray on his Birth Centenary, we have one of his "Star"s joining us as he himself described in his article on cinema. We have with us estemeed actor Mr.Dhritiman Chaterji to discuss his collaboration with Ray in "Pratidwandi" (The Adversary), one of Ray's most politically loaded films which stays contemporary till date. We also discuss "Ganashatru" (Enemy of the State) and "Agantuk" (The Stranger), two films where Chaterji plays pivotal supporting roles. We analyse Satyajit overall, the film-maker, artist and human being.
Having the opportunity of Dhritiman Chaterji with us we do not limit our discussion to Satyajit alone but also move on to Ray's legendary contemporaries like Mrinal Sen and Nabyendu Chatterjee with whom our guest collborated in remarkable projects.

To my mind the two peaks in DC's distinguished, if arguably thin, acting career are Pratidwandi and Aakaler Sandhane. It's impossible to imagine anyone else in either of those two roles. He was absolutely imperious in Sen's 1981 masterwork, a film that was -- like most of Mrinal's works -- criminally underrated.

We have a few discussions in Bengali as well where the guests preferred Bengali unlike this one. However, for Malayalam/Tamil/Iranian/Korean movies we have consistently used English as unfortunately we cannot converse in those languages. Apologies that we cannot always speak in the language a movie originates from. As the intention is to talk about movies from all parts of the world, had to choose English as a common language
