This can be had for only $550 on joma right now. That's a great deal, especially considering that not long ago, Seiko was selling the Shogun with stamped clasp, lower grade movement, and no sapphire for $900
But shogun is overall a better watch. With this bezel Citizen is crap, look at the case, it has no finish. The seiko movement has more reserve. It's always the same decision, high beat vs reserve.
Got this watch and love it. The only thing I’d change is the dial finish. The markers aren’t actually applied but rather stamped into the dial from behind and then chromed. Gives it a really cheap look at certain angles as you can see the dial distort and raise near the markers. If they had gone with actual applied hour markers I really think this would be a 10/10 watch. Still really good as is though, nothing I’ve seen quite has the same look and feel on the wrist.
You cannot compare this watch with a Seiko diver, its rotating bezel lines up perfectly and there is no or very little play or rattling between its end links and lugs. These missing qualities are held in high esteem by Seiko fans. And even if Citizen did address these "shortcomings," there is another major problem; retail price. Citizen would have to hike up the price to a $1000.
Got exactly the same version, and it's probably the best daily diver I have ever purchased. I have small wrist ~6.75", fits very well even with 1 / 2 section of ratchet pulled out as micro adjust. Not gona stating the obvious pluses, just wanna highlight the fitment and comfort level of wearing are sublime. Bezel action isn't half bad at all, (comparing with others like Sinn, Seiko, Rolex, Christopher ward..... etc) I would describe it as - different. I do wish the knurling on the bezel to be more crisp and sharp, that would help the bezel operation. Only downside as mentioned in the vid, crown is small, visually it's fine while on the operating level can be a bit tricky at times. Also mine came with a slight misaligned bezel insert that some time along the line, have to get it removed and re-glued as I m a little OCD on that.
You might not have to remove it completely. Try this first: Soak it face down in 70% isopropyl alcohol (just so the bezel is submerged) in 30-60 min intervals. Eventually the glue will soften enough so you can push the bezel insert into alignment. Once you're happy with the placement, rinse it off with water and let it dry. The glue will reharden and your bezel will be good-to-go. I've done this to a couple different dive watches that I own, so I can confirm it works. The only bezel insert that really fought me was the one on the Orient Kamasu. That one I ended up having to completely dissolve the glue and reapply the bezel.
after 8 yrs of having to return unaligned seiko divers at every price point up to over $1000, i'd never get a seiko again. i've switched to citizen and others, and was truly excited about this. i've the black dial non-bracelet model and it's almost everything to make it a grail diver...certainly loads better than any seiko. but as you say the 60click bezel and grip on the bezel edge are slightly disappointing, but not enough to upset one. more disappointing was something you didn't mention, that being the overly small crown...even smaller than on the original 70s version. it's still a great diver, but that crown is a complete missed opportunity to nail this piece as a great diver. still, it's a keeper.
Purchased this in December 2022 for a good sale price. First impressions this is a super lite watch compared to my other ss divers. My Challenge runs fast +7 a day. The sapphire crystal beats mineral. I really have no complaints. I purchased a blue zuludiver "ocean" tropic strap for the watch and couldn't be happier. I have Turtles, Fugu's,Swiss chronometers, and this is my daily beater and couldn't be happier for now😂. Until my next wrist watch that is. As far as the bezel it doesn't seem as solid as my 2022 Fugu but I have wore it everywhere everyday and has not been worn gently including saltwater and the bezel has not moved at all in counting down the hour or minutes on it. Hope that helps a little.
Got one and sold it. Kinda miss it. This is a cool tool watch as it is very scratch resistant and has a medium beat movement. I love the bracelet, useful when my wrist expands. The extension is underside so no one else would notice. I sold it because I had another blue diver and wanted to keep only one. Compared to the 63mas, the Seikos look much better because of the mixed brushed and polished features. But still can't go wrong with this Citizen. Might get another one in the long run.
I own two Citizen Fujitsubo's and a Seiko 62mas re-issue, the SPB143. The black fujitsubo is incredible especially with the bracelet from the blue variant. The blue variant is very specific in wear, its a strong blue and it stands out but I still enjoy it. The Seiko is stupidly more expensive and has a significantly lower grade movement, but I love its styling. If Citizen can offer some new dial variants in their Fujitsubo lineup, it will certainly kill off any desire to keep this Seiko SPB.
Seiko has a much better bezel and case... don't know why the most think the movement is bad. It has much more reserve that this one. I had this Citizen and sold it, there is no finish on this watch. I have spb083 and spb079, they are much better.
The crown doesn’t bother me aesthetically, I am just concerned that it could be damaged if it takes a strong glancing blow. I purchased this for lobster hunting and spearfishing, I have broken a crown before.
Titanium bezel action, bit tinny as you'd normally expect. The Tudor Pelagos is the only Titanium diver I've tried with a a solid feeling bezel action, feels just like the Black Bay.
Tbh I think a bit of lub can solve that, I once had a sea dweller where bezel got stuck, took it apart, clean it, didn't work. At the end I let a drop of lub for my electric razor blade onto the inner side of the bezel, everything worked perfectly since then even after shower, washing, swimming many times in the sea. I think it would be do the same to this fujisubo.
@@ricchrono5907 I’m all out of lub. But the issue is not the stiffness or friction which lub can help but it has a tinny hollow feelings which lub cannot fix.
For me is a Seiko killer or at least a good alternative. Better bracelet, better diver extension , better movement, the only bad point is the 60 click bazel. I have both this and the SPB 62mas save the oceans and i love both. But This I paid £200 less.
Seems nice enough, and has a known movement. As far as the ISO rating, my guess is yes, as I notice they went through the trouble of squeezing in a lumed marker next to the date window.
The TITANIUM AND the diminutive dimensions are a Huuuuge Plus making this piece superior than the 62 MAS. CONS: 1)The mercedes hands 2)The Small Crown 3)Male end bracelet - all of which can be fixed to suit one's taste and budget. I personally would mod it with the OEM SEIKO PADI Hands with Orange Accent and Get a 62MAS Crow paired with a Silicone RUBBER from SEIKO. Am a SEIKO FAN BOY but this time piece is wearable as a daily because of its TITANIUM material, 41mm size, Weight.
For me, the quality let down is the bracelet. Having only a one piece link and that ratcheting clasp makes the watch feel less expensive. The design of the watch head seems fine.
Just purchased the black one today in Japan at BIC Camera. The SPB was double the price. With tax free and 5%off using a major CC. Got this for just under $450. I couldn’t pass on it.
I have both SPB and this Citizen. The SPB is typical of Seiko, bezel is fractionally off from being perfect and the bracelet is terrible. RRP 1800aud here in Australia but you can get them for 1400ish. The Citizen is perfect quality control, better bracelet and can be had for 900aud (RRP is around 1500). The Seiko is also hilariously heavy. If you wanted to smack someone over the head, it would be better. Both are lovely, but the Seiko has a lot of flaws for a lot more money as well.

Super light and accurate,

Fantastic review. This is a buy for me, yes it’s not perfect ,but pretty decent piece for the money. Got enough Seikos anyhow.

I have a blue one on a canvas strap. It's lightweight and a bit campy, and extremely comfortable for daily wear.

Wait, Citizen now owns Alpina??? Wow, I just got an Alpina Alpiner which I absolutely LUV! Great review, thx!
I have the black one. The rubber strap is grabby and grabs hair. Therefore I recommend this blue one with the Titanium bracelet.
Can't wait for the 143 comparison :) do you have favourite already ?
The crown doesn’t bother me aesthetically, I am just concerned that it could be damaged if it takes a strong glancing blow. I purchased this for lobster hunting and spearfishing, I have broken a crown before.
Nice video, thank you for sharing 🙂👍
I picked this up on Amazon for £500. It looks brilliant on a blue stingray strap, like it is surrounded by barnacles...
It looks great, I think its worth the extra money instead of the Orient Kamasu I was looking at
Killer, killer Citizen here. Awesome dial color, movement, and materials (I love titanium) for the price. I do wish it was a mil or two smaller though
Aww buggar yet another watch I want
Hopefully we see how's the bezel action. Have been told it's terrible. Went with a 63Mas instead.

Really like this watch, however some swiss brands like Tissot ( Seastar ) and Certina ( DS-PH ) have very good options for the money.

I think you've sold me on this. I'll add a cyclops date magnifier, and it'll be perfect.
Seems like a prototype. It’s oddly underwhelming, but they are really close.
Seiko SPB eats its lunch. Next.
Yes. You are correct. I was really looking forward to this one, but the first reviews were a let down. Glad I went with the Seiko SPB.
i have spb147, i actually prefer the looks of this challenge diver, might get the black one
