How about sending the car back to Tesla, demanding a full refund and then never ever even looking at any of their products again? These companies just keep getting rewarded for pushing this stuff and never get any repercussions for selling expensive junk.
Holy shit is this how the Dennis has a mental health day episode was written?????!!!!! Cool to see the process and hear the reality of a situation become an iconic episode
I watched this episode previously and laughed a lot. I have since watched the episode that this story inspired. Currently watching again and enjoying just as much or more
Glenn _lived_ a zen koan. What that car did to him is what those weird riddles are supposed to do, inundate you with confusion and frustration until you literally can't hold any more, then it all drains away and a cool calm serenity descends over you. Eating a person's heart is optional, though it might help a bit.
I FIGURED IT OUT. No one tell Glenn my solution to this real world sudoku. What you do is by a walkie talkie and use that to relay over to another person outside of the parking structure so that the phone has signal, i am just now realizing the problem with the fob and that's the thing, it's just a matter of figuring out how to conduct signals to that area to the vehicle. I solved it, not practically but an attempt was made.
This is a small thing, but next time a call center rep says they need to transfer you, ask for a "warm transfer". That's where they call over to the other department, and explain the sitution for you. That should minimize the need to be transferred so often.
Glenn is thankfully so much nicer and chiller than Dennis, which isn’t saying he’s totally chill and not a bit bonkers and completely unalike Dennis, but you know, it’s a relief. Also I don’t know why but I was hoping he’d have gone off for lunch but at the end he’s like he didn’t eat all day, that’s not great for you mental acuity in a situation like that! As someone who has Crohns and does that I know from experience not eating doesn’t help the situation in any way
Yea Glenn’s wife said in a different podcast that she had to explain to her friends that he’s a great husband and he’s nothing like his character Dennis. He’s just a great actor 😂
@@igiulaw7466 haha! Aw she had to explain, he is so convincing as a lunatic bur I love watching the bloopers as it’s so strange his Dennis persona drop and he has such a genuine warm smile, it’s lovely, he plays, obviously with Dennis, but generally some really unhinged dudes really convincingly so it can be hard to tell! That’s why is such a relief to see him be his nice self ☺️
@@igiulaw7466 ah that’s great, I hadn’t seen that one, they’re so lovely 😊 it’s so funny she felt she had to explain because Dennis is extreme! And Glenn is such a good actor so it defo comes across a certain way on the show for such a long time now!
The version of the episode where it’s all in the garage and then he finally gets it out but the fob isn’t fixed and it ends with him going in a parking garage again and realizing too late, would have been really funny.
Wireless technology, convenient but fundamentally less reliable. If everything relies on software, redundancy becomes incredibly difficult. Important amenities should not be less reliable for a tiny boost in convenience at a ballooning cost. But consumers love this stuff. They are happy to pay for things that break more often and yet are super expensive. It's setting us up for a society riddled with expensive broken shit. There's a VERY good reason why space rockets aren't riddled with software. Those NASA scientists know that shit's gonna break.
Glenn found himself in one of those wacky Larry David situations. Nothing can be done and there is no planning. It just, happens. Become the zen. Or whatever.
To be fair. I love my fob. I just have to touch my car door handle and it locks or unlocks. And when the battery runs out, there’s a key hiding in it. As long as there is an analog backup, it’s all good.
my gutshot hotfix was a wifi dolly to get the phone connected, though it sounds like the car might not have been able to connect to local wifi in that state (and then what, contacting a nearby college/business tech?). Great episode though!
Teslas just sound like worst cars all around. Expensive, shitty build and crappy materials, and all the basic things functions that a normal gas guzzling car just does are unreliable. I don’t understand how seemingly intelligent people who make a lot of money keep buying them.
Year 2004 in college I have IASIP season one burned from limewire my girlfriend has Arrested Development burned. Saturday mornings we spent alternating shows arguing content...the following year Facebook expanded to Standford and Baylor* where we went to school and the world changed
The story is better than the show they came up with. Should have been true to the actual version of events. Would have been much more engaging in the same vein as the Seinfeld episode waiting to be seated at the Chinese restaurant.
It’s designed to be big brother to get them out of trouble. As if that wasn’t enough to not buy a Tesla, Elon Musk is in charge of it which is the icing on the cake.
You can call 911 and saiy there’s a bomb in the car in the garage. pick the car up from police impound the next day. But for Dennis, the police blow the car up into 1 million pieces.
Sheesh plenty of cars where I live and my Subaru have tow hooks, I wouldn't offer to tow you somewhere but could have definitely gotten it out of the garage no problem. I dont live in the sticks but I guess in the city it's not that common.
I am never buying an EV. And that’s not some climate change denial “fuck you, got mine” gonna roll coal on my lifted F-150 statement. I’m never buying an EV (especially a Tesla) because they’re made stupidly, they break easily, they’re known to burst into flames for no reason (especially Teslas), and they have numerous extra features that I don’t need and don’t want that jack up the price and rely on software that is just going to be abandoned in 7 years anyway. And these goddamn touchscreens they insist on everything relying on are just gonna break in within a decade anyways. And that’s the thing, they (the car companies *cough **_Tesla_** cough* , the tech/software companies, their shareholders) WANT them to break soon, they WANT the old apps and features to eventually become incompatible with newer tech because that forces you to buy the new versions. Not to mention how EVs are NOT the solution to climate change, trains and other mass transit are. And now here’s a tumblr post that sums up what I was trying to say much more succinctly: “‘smart appliances’ fuck u i want them dumb as a brick and incidentally as sturdy and enduring ‘it has an LCD and an app!’ that will be so fun in 7 years when everything still works except the dead screen and the abandoned software. ‘so many extra features’ so that's why it costs 3x more and has 1/5th the lifespan of the old model. ‘4 year extended warranty’ buddy where I'm from the dishwasher is a family heirloom and the washing machine helped raise us “ -@biggest-gaudiest-patronuses on tumblr Nov 18, 2023
Thanks for the clip. Tried giving it a shot a few times and I loved the show but they are just too disconnected from normal life now I can’t relate. 👎 from me
If only there were a key-like device that could serve as a failsafe emergency object to sideline these logistical conundrums.
And we have gone full meta with ‘Dennis Takes a Mental Health Day’
Doc if my blood pressure is high I’ll simply command it to go down 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I just watched it right now
The ep was definitely based on this story. First thing I thought of when I watched it
"D as in 'DELIVER ME FROM THIS!!'"
@@mattmandery5063
"E as in 'ENGAGE WITH HUMAN!' "
"N as in NIGHTMARE"
This turned into a writers room all of a sudden. Loved it.
One of my all time favorite episodes came out of Glenn’s shitty day with his Tesla lmaoooo
Then he pulled Elon musks heart out
Hahaha 🤚 ❤
And squeezed it into a diamond
and ate it
Know what car this doesn’t happen to? A first-gen Range Rover.
🤣

“For all we know,it’s still there”
"Dennis Gets His Fob Fixed"
Imagine Glenn running into the writers room "Guys I've got news I've got terrible news"
The real lesson here is just don't buy a Tesla
What he described as humanity being helpful during his situation is a prelude to the future inevitably of humans vs machines

You only need Bluetooth to connect the app to a Tesla…..I think he never paired his phone to the car.
Call a tow truck which has wheel jacks, push the vehicle out of the garage to where yo have reception and go about your day. Easy peasy!

Jonathan Howerton Seagull.
There’s a solution to all this….they’re called keys!
Right? They've worked for thousands of years!
oh shit was this how that one episode came about? 7:15
Just get a Range Rover…Glenn looks like a Range Rover kinda guy for some reason🤷
Why people think they needed to replace their car keys with a FOB is beyond me.
Fr 4:53 keys. you put it in the thing, you turn it and the car went 😂
Manufacturers made that decision. I hate push button start
whats even weirder is he was wrong about your phone needing internet connection to unlock the car, as its all done via bluetooth.
I feel like Kia and Hyundai owners across the US would beg to differ with the simpler-is-better idea when it comes to the security of the vehicle.

Per Tesla's website, your phone does not need internet connection once its registered with your car, as it does use bluetooth to unlock it.

I dont know what happened to Glenn but using a phone as a tesla key doesn't require an internet connection. Works over Bluetooth LE.
