I worked as a multi-store manager, and had this store plus Fox Valley. Let me tell you! It was no surprise that the company went under; they were so disorganized they could never get anything together to work correctly, they were using DOS for their inventory management (the program was left over from some other company), their employees didn't give a damn, they 'Zero'd Out' so much merchandise that it was insane - literally thousands of dollars per week, and corporate was a screwed-up rag-tag trashy mess that had no understanding of their customers or even their own products. The entire place was just tiring - no one was happy, and it felt as though at any moment things would just collapse in on themselves... I was so thankful to get out of there! OMG... But, don't feel bad for these guys: I can tell you with complete honesty that they did this to themselves.

BTW, the basement of that store is an official air raid shelter!

Yes, this store is closed now. I wanted to film the final days, but it is gone now. Very sad!! Hopefully this building would be put to good use despite the other junk around it.

I worked at that Carson’s from 2008-2015 and I loved it! My coworkers were the best it was like a family 💚💚💚 our store manager was wonderful and we did all we could for the little store we were. I left before it became the clearance center and I will say the ceilings were not dripping like that until they officially decided to shut the store down… obviously they didn’t care to do any maintenance if they were not going to be open. The bathrooms were blue! And I’m fine working order when I left lol during COVID they opened it as a vaccination center and they have had a sign up that it’s going to be a storage place but idk when that’s going to happen.

I used to work there in the mid nineties. I worked in the shoe department for a year and a half. It tried to be a high end store and every associate worked on commission which I didn't like because we got paid a dollar less than minimum wage. A lot of departments were always a mess, when I was there, the pricing guns never worked right, merchandise was over priced, especially the shoes. So hardly any customers went to shop there. I'm surprised that it lasted as long as it did. I though this store would have gone under when the 2008 recession hit.

Just in there last night. Purchased two shirts for about 18 dollars. It is starting to look empty. There is a lot of fixtures for sale. The walls are empty. Most of the home section is emptying out. Then some disturbing news I saw on the internet is that the bankruptsy judge wanted the stores to liquidate instead of the investors buying them out. It would be a dirty shame to see Carson's and Bergner's go under. My "hometown" shopping mall in Peru, IL already lost Sears and JC Penney's. If that Bergner's closes, it may be the end of that mall. I just pray that the judge would have it in his heart to let the sale go ahead and preserve jobs and potentially a major disaster for malls in the Chicago area.

Yeah, It's not just Carson's. But so many other stores are slowly going out of business. I believe it's partly the economy dying, part of it is the greedy government wanting to take over us all, part of it could be mall owners raising their rent to the point that the businesses inside of them cannot afford the raising rent costs to keep their business alive, or people simply don't want to shop there any more for various reasons. And so on .....

Ahhhhh I worked here until it closed! I would have given you the inside scoop! And let you in the back to film.
Edit: there was so much going on behind the scenes this store could of had it's own reality show! Surprisingly not a lot of people quit once we started to close. The Carsons in fox valley was having issues with being understaffed so the employees from our store would go over there to help out.
Also this clearance center was open for as long as it was because they owned the building.

I use to work for Carson's in Vernon Hills, Il. way back between 1990 & 1993. And back then they had changed their name to Boston. What ever happened to Boston store? Also when I was at Carson's It was a nice store and I has an amazing supervisor in the woman's department. The children's department was the department from hell. Lol

About the Boston Store locations if nobody purchases Bon-Ton by early June, then they will close. Same thing I heard goes for Carson's at North Riverside and Carson's in Merrillville. Lately ive been trying to visit as much Carson's stores as I can before they go. Hoping to go to Fox Valley and Louis Joliet over the summer.

Depends on what day I go. I'd normally go the 1st Tuesday of the month if I can (I'm also a siren enthusiast so that way I got another purpose for going) They said every Bon-Ton store should close by August.

Great walkthrough of this store, and as I'd kept forgetting this one is closing. By any chance, did you ask any of the employees when the last date of this store open will be, or at least get an approximate date? I should potentially consider visiting this store, before it's too late.
