Everything has been designed just to make your life as much difficult and impossible to back up. I am thinking of buying a camera and using an sd card. All this unnecessary software that forces you to upload , optimise and use certain formats is s total nightmare, I remember 15 years ago everything worked seamlessly I didn’t have to think about anything and now it’s a total nightmare .

You cannot backup iCloud optimized photos, so if you've enabled photo storage optimization with iCloud and you're out of space on your phone for all of your photos OneDrive will only backup the random photos that are truly saved on your iPhone.
