  • Monster Hunter Wilds | The Potential of Siege Monsters:
There is a category of monsters that changes how the game is played in a much deeper degree than the others. This special group of bosses offers a hunt a lot more focused on its spectacle than mechanical execution, often demanding more teamwork and strategy rather than the mastery over your weapon. Being few and far between, but iconic (for better or worse) on the games they belong to, these, are the siege monsters.

if it is fully open world or partially, more like an expanded World, i can see certain areas of the maps acting as their arenas, acting as 'world event' type things. Say Jhen Mohran, you board a boat and chase it through the most arid part of the Savannah map. I think this interaction with the environment we spend the majority of the game in could make them far more interesting. Especially, if they left a permanent impact on it, though that might be asking a bit too much.
The key thing, more than location, is to somehow make them more dynamic, which a more open world could definitely help with. And here's an idea for the slow lumbering kind like Zorah Magdaros... parasitic smaller monsters, which would make the parts where you're just hitting a node on them far more thrilling. Sorta like fighting Nergigante on Zorah, but making it far more of the entire fight. Using them as creatures blocking the world boundaries or areas you unlock later is a very cool idea also.
All I know is, I aint playing it unless they bring endemic PETS back. Lots of awesome endemic life in Rise, and all I could do with it was harass it instead of trap in my home to look pretty. :(

Excellent video bro, I agree with everything that was said, I told my friends that these fights could be more fun if Capcom focused more on making the monster fight against the player and giving these monsters more movements and interactions

Very interesting topic! They are always a very conflicting topic for me because they are spectacular but also a tedium to fight most of the time.
World's Safi & Kulve Taroth are really fun to me. But they are closer to a normal monster hunt than a traditional gigantic siege monster. So I would really love to see a gigantic siege that's actually fun & have replay value

Wilds has the most potential to make sieges and huge monster to be absolutely amazing, the mohrans have to come back and it would be amazing to have Akantor and Ukanlos come back. There can even be a special event where Akantor and Ukanlos are moving across the map to meet each other to clash like they're supposed to in lore

I severely want a Mohran Siege and Dalamadur seige. I actually quite enjoyed the fights against Dah'ren Mohran in 4u and had no idea people dislike that one. I def put it above the other ones in this video like it, but it also felt more interactive to me, especially with such an enclosed space.
I like Mohran's fight changes proposed in the video and maybe make it be the high rank siege, and I would want Dalamadur's siege to be the equivalent of Safijiva.

I had the same thoughts about how an updated Mohran hunt would be like. However, my idea differs a bit on the sandship part, where a sandship crashing counts as a faint on a normal hunt.
Also, since you didn't do it... I'd include my idea of a 2nd phase for Mohran's hunt.
Unlike the in original where you fight Mohran on foot in the open desert, this time you will lead Mohran into a shallow delta, preferably in some natural made arena like a giant open air cave with sand in it, where you trap the Mohran inside, using the big sandship as a gate to block the exit. Now you can take Mohran on foot, but it still won't be easy since Mohran can still dive under the sands inside the cave and its intervals between attacks are much shorter now that it's got shallower sand pool to hide in. In this fight, Mohran can also crash itself in the walls, causing cave ins and debris to fall. Further more, there's still a chance for Mohran to escape if it crashes itself into the big sandship acting as the gate numerous times. Much like the original, the dragonator and gong are still in the big sandship, and you can use them to stagger Mohran in key moments, or use them like how you evade Amatsu's and Fatalis' OHKO.
Your respawn in the 2nd phase will be inside the big sandship.

Siege monsters def wouldn’t take place in the same map that you would possibly do your expeditions in, even if it’s open world. I just don’t see the map being nearly big enough to accommodate a fight of that size, especially since you’ll be travelling at high speed on ships. Any siege would take place in its own separate arena space that cleverly designed to look larger then it is. They’re just to big to focus on one individual Hunter at a time, Safijiva worked because it was Xenojiva size and was bipedal and therefore it’s smaller limbs could attack an individual player. The other titanic monsters r simply way to big for any precision when focusing on one enemy

i agree, but i think that bigger monsters could be made for these new maps, so even non siege monsters could be bigger and more imposing.

Personal the minimum requirement for a siege monster to be a siege monster is some kind of siege equipment

I found out you can jump on Zorah when he reaches the blockade. You can attack the core on his head and I think I've even seen people jump on his arms somehow.
It's a neat encounter and AT Zorah actually requires that you at least use heavy artillery. I suppose. Lol

i'm up for more colossal monsters coming to new games, kulve was a masterpiece and with jhen mohran i miss having a gigantic monster that makes the hunt switch often between artillery and melee weapons
but giving freely controllable vehicles of any kind and adjusting the movement of the sand whales wouldnt save the hunt from being almost as weird and disconnected as that plesioth minigame.... it would remain as a separate minigame
taking jhen example again, i would prefer capcom to take the same gimmick hunt from tri and spicing it up with more options for both hunters and monster
the monster needs to be more aggressive and the player should be able to go on top of the monster to break specific parts, sometime even using the artillery to block the monster in such a way you can walk on it... that's a solution if we wanted to bring colossal monsters like the sand whales
if we wanted instead sieges like safijiva and kulve in world, that's quite a different hunt type from other colossal monsters, with their system of completing multiple hunts to weaken the monster,,, these 2 are dynamic with their big hp pools, demanding partbreaks and tight timers, not giving the players an easy time in dealing as much dps as possible... that's also good, these 2 monsters did their good part to make a colossal fight in their way ((although some safijiva attacks that have hardknockback, non i-frameable explosion and healing on top of it... still give me pain to this day))
but that's the thing... "in their way"
fights like jhen and ceadeus or dalamadur still don't neeed to be trashed or completely reworked, they need reworks or adjustments, sure... 5th gen monster hunter is fast paced
but a hunt with vehicles where the hunters cannot go on top of the monster completely defeats the purpose of bringing back jhen while also repeating the same mistakes of disconnect that hunts like zorah did... using just artillery is boring and fighting in melee against something that doesnt fight back is boring...at least jhen was already able to throw you down and hit you wherever you were

I think Relink Proto Bahamut is a good idea for MH siege, but the massive types are really hard to design a good, believable rapid attacks for. Honestly keyword for them to focus on is 'hectic' to avoid the snorefest that is giant enemy fights

In my opinion, gogmazios is the best siege fight in term of mecanics, feature and arena given to the players for the fight, but Safi jiva is best for the siege monster design. It would be fun to have a fight bring both design to make a new incredible siege or to bring back Gogmazios but with a redesigne like safi jiva

i disagree with your vision of the sieges, they largely help with world building and make you feel a real hunter defending your people against an impending doom, that doesn't even bother attacking you because you're like a small bug for him, so you use hunter weapons made for calamities and really feel powerless and also you feel a deep respect for this monsters, that's why they are so recognized, even if they are so few.

What? You say that they’re not fun because were “stopping a train from crashing instead of hunting a monster” but there are literal action movies based around this exact premise. I don’t think that’s the problem, I think they’re just slow and not dynamic, which has nothing to do with the core concept itself.
