Thanks, great interview. This chap has many similarities to me. Same age, same job, same disease, same solution. The difference being that when I decided to go vegetarian, I continued to eat the ultra processed junk food, rather going fully whole plants. It took me longer to get my RA under control, but I am now managing my symptoms without the aid of pharmaceuticals. The takeaway is to go fully whole plants if you're going to start this lifestyle. Stay away from processed junk. As he said, 'eat plants and move more '.

After adopting a plant based diet, I could finally eat healthy carbs without any blood sugar issues. I am, by far, the healthiest I've ever been. I have no metabolic disorders. I'm approaching my 70s and am on no medications. My mind is clear, and I have energy to burn....most days.

Agree, I used to think I could never eat rice or potatoes when I was doing the horrible keto diet because my weight blew up if I ate a carb. Now that I’m plant based I can enjoy the rice and potatoes with my veggies and I feel fantastic. ❤

The shingles vaccine started my journey for autoimmune RA many years ago. I have had to take low dose steroids to survive and move around. I ended up with PMR which will be RA before it’s over. I’m 74 now and am dropping weight. Walk 2-3 miles a day.

Thank you for this inspring clip. I do think i am in the early stage of RA or gout also and I am transitioning to a more plant base diet.
I notice everytime i eat plant base days in a row, my pain disappears. My problem comes when I try to eat plant proteins like beans ang legumes because I feel pain right afterwards.
Plant base w/o beans and legumes has solve my joint issue but i notice my muscle on my legs is shrinking.
I am now experimenting on myself ways to eat plant base but stuff more protein in (since i have not tried all kinds of beans and legumes yet.
    Any wisdom on this challege?

Cravings also have to do with your microbiome. Try it, have some sugary food for a few days and see how you feel the next couple of days afterwards, you'll definitely crave something sugary. However, you are right, if you go 'cold-turkey' and switch over everything and remove all the garbage, those cravings go away pretty quick as there isn't a microbiome trying to control you to eat them anymore. I find those that only switch out some meals, but still indulge in processed/animal products still get cravings for those foods constantly as they're still feeding that microbiome.
My roommate was always wondering why I never ate anything sweet anymore and I told him I never feel cravings, but I eat a lot of fruit to 'indulge' myself. Like dates, I add them to my oatmeal(among other fruits of course), put them on bread with peanut butter or even just with a little peanut butter inside them for that sweet-tooth fix. Not that I actually feel the need, but it sure does taste great and is good for ya! I've even tried sweet stuff, like Oreos to see how they tasted, immediately thought it was a bad idea because it didn't taste the same as it used to and would much rather of had something else instead.

This is a food borne disease. Also check out Clint Paddison's Ted talk, and his program for reversing autoimmune arthritises such as RA, ankylosing spondylitis etc. His program is called the Paddison Program. You can reverse this! Stress is only one small component. He uses whole plant foods, and strongly recommends eliminating oils, especially in the beginning. He has tons of interviews of people who have overcome RA and similar diseases. Best wishes on your return to health.

I can completely endorse Paul's experience. I too was diagnosed with RA in April 22 and put on anti inflammatory meds and by December 22 the Consultant was counselling me in readiness to start immune suppressant drugs. I had been researching diet and nutrition and started to greatly reduced refined carbohydrates and sugars, cut out red meat and increase home cooked plant based food in my diet. I am now off all medication for my RA! I do have occasional minor flare ups. I can usually attribute them to falling off the wagon and eating sweet things or emotional stress,. I can hardly believe the benefit the change of diet has made to me! I would urge anyone else in a similar situation to consider making these types of changes, after all, what have you got to lose? :)

Very good interview.I live here in Australia and I had RA and was on methotrexate for 3 years then got a blood clot in my leg and was taken off that drug as I was told it would never heal (after the operation I had to have) otherwise.A short time after surgery my immune system collapsed and i was put on a drug to manage that. Then within 6 months I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes then fatty liver then liver cirrhosis but I was off methotrexate as it had gone into remission after the leg op.Now I watch my diet because of cirrhosis, lost weight but now the RA is back so I’m looking at a plant based diet as the RA drugs work but aren’t good.
