GOOD TO SEE YOU ALL AGAIN GUYS!! I’ve been sent numerous messages by anxious viewers wondering where all the videos have been recently; there’s no one reason, it started with a two week holiday back to the UK in February and upon returning I’ve been filming and editing non-stop ever since. One of the reasons is this month there are quite a few, lengthy travel-style videos (almost 20 mins each), which require more editing than usual; hell, I’ve been editing this video until 4am this morning - as I write this it’s almost 5am and my final act will be to collapse on the keyboard in about 90 seconds. The good news is, it’s looking like this month will break the record on this channel, for most videos ever released in a month! So there’s plenty of videos to look forward to and keep you entertained in the coming weeks! The line up includes two videos with Natsuki, two videos with Ryotaro and a monster food challenge, to name but a few. Finally, there’s an all new Abroad in Japan PODCAST out every Wednesday. It took me five years to get around to it, and we’re now four episodes in! It’s been great fun talking through five years of stories and experiences of life in Japan. A lot of people have been asking if the new Podcast is the reason there’s been no videos and there’s honestly no connection. Podcasts take a couple of hours, videos takes days. But if you haven’t come across it yet (and you like Japan stuff), be sure to have a listen here: hyperurl.co/nhgr30 And now, I’ll officially collapse. Thank you everyone. ; kjJWQ]IJq]rirhfFWfjo
Got hooked a few weeks ago and already bingewatched all of your videos. They always make me giggle and with each vid I'm getting more hyped to go to Japan. Can't wait to watch this one tonight!
I've just realised that opening drone shot and the way we zoom in and out, makes it look like it's a POV shot of a missile fired from a Predator drone. (That's probably not a good thing).
Met Chris and Natsuki randomly on a street corner in Tokyo last week just before they filmed a video. They were so nice and friendly! Got a photo with them and it made my day haha.
haha noice! i met lovelyzkelly randomly while she was waiting for her shinkansen! we were a couple cars away! to think, you could meet these youtubers in such a densely populated city!
It can be a small world. I remember one time when I was living in the middle of nowhere about 200km from where I grew up. I was taking the bus to work one day and this guy across from me goes "Hey, is your name (my name here)" I go "yeah..." trying to figure out where I know him from. Turned out I went to school with him 20 years ago. What are the odds? And yet, now that I live back home, I haven't run into a single person I went to school with in the 5 years I've been back.
Well, I've looked into whether volcanoes cause anomalies in the Earth's geomagnetic field and it turns out I was wrong. They do indeed cause fluctuations. Probably just weaker compared to ones like the South Atlantic anomaly where it's the size of a continent. In the paper I read, they were saying the reason volcanoes cause these anomalies is because in the magma chamber deep underground, the magma puts a massive amount of pressure on the rock in the walls of the chamber. This pressure causes what's called the piezomagnetic effect. Which is just a fancy way of saying when certain types of minerals are compressed, it creates a magnetic field. You may have heard of the piezoelectric effect where if you compress a quartz crystal it generates electricity. Like in the starter for a BBQ or one of those electric lighters. The piezomagnetic effect works the same but obviously it generates a magnetic field instead of an electrical field. So in short, the pressure of the magma in the chamber compresses the rocks in the chamber walls which creates a magnetic field due to the piezomagnetic effect and you get your anomaly. I really hope this has been as enlightening for you as it was for me. Though frankly, I'd consider it a victory if you simply read these long winded replies. Cheers. =)
Chris, if you up the video production quality any more, I'm gonna start feeling guilty for not paying to see this movie-level production. Jesus mate. Literally, better with every video. Keep up the incredible work.
I can't imagine if his production quality went up to Peter's level, with his entertaining videos, It would automatically be my favorite channel in RUclips. lol :)
It dawned on me when I saw the flowers! Ha. “Dawn”-ed. Ha... Anyways, Sinnoh has always been my favorite region, the one I started with. I would love to be able to see the inspiration in person.
* is right next to a cable lift station which is made of huge amounts of metal and huge wheels of spinning metal and metal cables and metal towers and metal rods securing it to the mountain * where is the metal???
I think he means that there's no metal object close to it. Drones fly around in buildings, and those are held up by steel beams. He was aware of the molten rock possibly causing interference.
I agree with most of the commenters. You have come a long way, and it has been such a great pleasure to watch your videos. This one in particular speaks to me as I am typically used to Southern California weather, but I have been hovering next to a small gas heater in Tokyo for the last month. Chris, best wishes to you, your crew (entourage), and everyone who supports you! This thing you made is more than a travelogue. Yet, not virtual ;) So, it's somewhere in the middle between perfect and awesome. It doesn't suck, that is for sure. It's vicarious travel. That's it.
Alright Chris, I'm gonna need you to calm down because it won't be too long until the BBC hire you to do documentaries and I can't have my favourite Japanese tourist channel disappear.
This has got to be one of the best Japan channels out there. It reminds me a lot of Lonely Planet (Discovery Channel). I must say that I thought this was was one of those promotional RUclips channels and stayed away from it for so long. Seriously regret doing that. Chris, if you are reading this, you're funny, you make great content and you are so much fun to watch. Keep up the good work!. Plus, you've pushed me to complete learning Japanese. I'm 25 and want to do my PhD in Japan (cause I love the place, damnit :D). It doesn't feel impossible or too late after watching you. Cheers!
I swear...whenever you release a video without eating something, I am not going to believe it is made by you! :-D Great Channel! Since I ever saw the first video, I feel the urge to go to Japan. Greetings from Germany!

This has to be Chris under a secondary RUclips channel praising his own channel, yes? Come on, Chris. Cut it out! On the other hand, I have not ever heard Chris use the word, "dude". This could be legit!
Chris Broad...YOU'RE ALIVE! My wife & I have been missing your videos, we went back and watched some of your older videos in anticipation for this new one. Hakaido looks amazing, hopefully you go back in July when the Rolling Lavender Fields aren't buried by a foot of snow. Looking forward to Part 2 :-) :-)
Los Angeles Chris has a supremely chaotic American energy that is so disconcerting and relatable, and British Chris is masterfully rolling with all of the punches. It's brilliant
Alex Romo that's still decent Japanese. After all those hours spent on him learning Japanese? I would definitely show it off! It's also great motivation for people who want to learn a language. It would inspire people to think "wow, he can get this good at speaking and reading it, I can too!''
FlowUrbanFlow id rather put subtitles on videos so the audience can see what I'm saying and have the person I'm talking to understand what he's saying rather than speaking English to the person he's talking to.
The more i watch this the more i realize that Chris just attracts eccentric people, Natsuki, Ryotoro, Other Chris, Sharla, Kazu, Pete, and then theres Chris, the negative to all the positives. Thank you Chris for introducing us to all these wonderful characters.
To be fair it's been a while but movement of conductive elements (in the magma) by convection through the earths existing magnetic field, thus generating an electrical charge and therefore magnetic interference, (I imagine the power lines don't help though.) If i have this wrong then apologies.
You're a British man driving in the snow WITH CLEAR ROADS, wtf is this magic? We had less snowfall last week and England fell apart, I couldn't leave the house for 3 days, Tesco had run out of bread and milk it was chaos. I barely made it.
ninefifteen The tread pattern on the tires at 15:50 shows that they are actual winter tires. In areas where they are used slippery surfaces rarely cause any bigger problems. Also, in areas where they are used, there are usually snow ploughs at standby, ready to remove the excess snow.

The video quality of this channel keeps getting better and better. Loving the Exploration videos we've been getting recently and as you continue to experience things through Chris I'll continue to experience things through this channel. Keep em coming. Cheers.

This channel, in a phrase.
Never thought I’d see drone shots in an Abroad in Japan video ;)
internationally ME it seems like drone shots are like the final level of evolution for video vlogs ✅
WOW drone upgrades! one day I will make it to Hokkaido... one day :'(

If we don't count the stock footage it's actually a drone shot :D

the drone did not work because a volcano is filled with molten metal and stone and that can cause magnetic interference
bazinga is spot on, the magma chamber is a massive magnetic anomaly so not surprising the drone got confused.
