Amen Ammarah May! It's what you give of yourself that makes a difference in you as well as others. That principle works for good or for bad. For example: Notice how some interactions with people can leave you feeling less than clean or confused, frustrated, etc.? We often tell ourselves that maybe there was a breakdown in communication, a misunderstanding, or the other person just isn't aware of the whole picture or another point of view. But, often, the case is that they _too_ gave of themselves...and "themselves" are self-serving. When I finally started to realize that, it helped me better accept people for who they are. Sometimes accepting people means embracing them. Other times accepting people means knowing that they have no place in your Journey.
College isn't affordable because it wasn't meant for poor and middle classed people. It was for rich upper classed people. So now that middle classed and poor people are attempting to raise their standard of living, college goes up in price to forever keep those people in debt. 😥
When I was going to state universities back in the mid 80s to early 90s a college education was affordable. Student debt was manageable and one had a decent shot at a good paying career. Fast forward nearly 30 years and it is a radically different situation. It is all a matter of where society and its leaders place their priorities. Prisons or colleges. R and D for more bombs or R and D for clean alternative energy. Destroying and rebuilding other nations or rebuilding our decaying infrastructure in this country. We can blame the Democrats or blame the Republicans but the bottom line is we often get the government we deserve. When we are apathetic or more interested in what our favorite team is doing more than what our elected officials are doing we are opening the door for the more well connected to control and influence the agenda. As Oprah said "show up, vote, speak up, and be present." Often times politicians are not leaders but rather followers. They see where the crowd is going and run in front of it saying what a large following they have.

Not true. I have a Master's Degree and I received a scholarship when I was a Junior in High School. Low income students can apply for grants and that pays for community college tution and they can transfer to a University. If they combine scholarships and grants they can get everything paid without being in debt. There are many avenues to college without getting into debt. Y'all should research the resources not assume everyone would be in debt after college. Plus high school students can now graduate with an AAS by enrolling in dual credit. That cuts down half of the cost before they graduate and all they need go do is earn their Bachelors.

Tell Oprah Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, NY needs her to help the diverse college money for the students. I am an Alumni and on the Alumni Council and know Mercy College students can truly use her help. Affordability is challenging, but the students work hard. It’s phenomenal that the renowned Colleges can be endowed, but other unknown colleges and students need financial support also. We all have a story of how we overcame the odds.

I think a lot of the things Oprah says here are worthwhile however I deeply resent her advising the young woman and young people in general not to constantly be checking in with themselves about feeling fulfilled work wise & though we all need to work because of capitalism, many people's mental health is in disarray because they are going against what they feel & that little voice inside.
Well she does the work daily regarding checking in. More than anything she embodies being the the moment of every aspect of your life, which requires introspection. You must not have actively paid attention to her intentions.

I wish she and others would help those of us who have student loan debt and who haven’t been able to get employment after getting degrees. I went to college as a way out of poverty but instead I dug a deeper hole. This is why I put all my HOPE and TRUST in God I don’t hear anyone helping the people who are already in debt with these student loans 80k in debt and I haven’t been able to find a job for 2 years now. God has been my sole PROVIDER.

Esther StrategicAdvisor I heard of the guy who did that at Morehouse. I was referencing to people who were already graduates and not new graduates. The longer you’re out of school the more interest is added which has a major impact on credit.

Hmm when Oprah built a school in South Africa ,I remember a there were lots of complaints from mostly black Americans that Oprah had contributed outside her own community. Now Oprah donates millions to a black American college and its a bad thing ? What do you want from this woman? I'm not saying she is perfect but she is way better than a lot of other black millionaire celebrities who wont give anything but the bare minimum and still want to profit off black culture and the community. I mean Jay Z and Beyonce could take a leaf out of Oprah's book.

Why should she be humble - she's self-made. Remember Trump's "a small loan of a million dollars..."? The woman didn't have basic utilities in some of the homes she lived in as a kid. I'm glad she got rich and I think her story is inspiring. People should emulate her and the incentive will be money i.e. security - and also the joy which comes from helping others up the ladder.
