@@LowkeyHighkeyz My employer, a school system, offered annuities on top of the standard retirement , and I invested the max. I didn't buy fancy cars, but I did buy real estate. Watched the market, before the banks collapsed, I sold all. Essentially, I had a portfolio at 21 when others were telling me how stupid I was for living so restricted. In the end, it paid off. But when I look back, I think of how I could have saved more. Retiring was easy, leaving the work I loved was the hardest. But I had a plan and I stuck to it. The important thing is living on less, live on your cash and not on credit. Retiring is not about sitting back to do nothing. It is about having the freedom to do what you want, even if that is pursuing hobbies. Learn to live on less.

I know their story because I follow their IG and RUclips. Smart and very nice couple. I hate that you didn’t interview them. All these comments below from people judging who don’t know anything about the FIRE community. I am not currently seeking FIRE, but definitely seeking the FI part.

The host did an extremely poor job covering the FIRE movement! Great job Rich fam you are an inspiration to many... Those of us who have been following your journey know you live an incredible life without sacrifice just spending on what is important to you. Poor journalism to say the least.

I keep my heat at 63* we wear hoodys, socks n use blankets. After 9pm-candles only, no lights. I grocery shop at Aldi amd Dollar General and use coupons. Wash all laundry on cold, i hang most of it to dry on line & racks in basement and i only do it at night(cheaper than during peak hours pseg). I only run dishwasher when its full. I call cable & cell company every 3mths lookin for better deals. I precook & pack breakfast for hubby & kid during week. Idk how else to pinch!!!! Any suggestions?

I believe it. Hard time believing they could save that much on salary and uber with 4 kids after tax. However if they flipped enough homes for good profit then its believable. I knew someone who made 1 million by 30 y.o flipping homes in California before the crash

Many Americans are moving to Mexico and Portugal. If you buy property and invest your money in Portugal and let it sit for 5 years you can apply for a Portuguese passport which allows you to live and work legally in the EU.
