- A new episode of my Dr Vstrom, medical video series on Clutch Cable & Lever Maintenance.
Among other things, the video demonstrates how to access, clean and lube/grease clutch cable and clutch lever.
This tutorial demonstrates on a 3rd Gen DL 650 Vstrom L7 model but the steps are applicable to a lot of bikes out there.
It is also connected to other videos that lead or follow such as the hand guard removal and the clutch adjustment.

@@DrVstrom will do, need to sort the clutch then working my way to the oil and filter then chain adjustment, wouldn't have the confidence to attempt it without your advice. Thank you

Adrian Gall thanks also :)

Thanks a lot.👍
So nice of you, ride safe.
thank you very mcuh!
Tao L many Thanks :)
Can we use Chain Lube like Mobil Super Moto Chain lube to do this with the cable?
In reality this cable has teflon so its not really required unless you notice that you no longer have smooth movement. If you experience that you can use any product that lubes as long as it flows very easy, is not something that attracts dirt to inhibit the movement.
I am buying a new 2023 V-strom 650XT on Friday. As soon as it's home, I will be doing all of these maintenance tips right from day one. I don't trust that the factory will do the details like fully lubricate everything so I plan to start very thoroughly from the first day. Thank you for your excellent channel and superb and clear maintenance tips!
I am an Operating Theatre Nurse and perhaps I should call myself 'The V-strom Nurse'...😆
Out of curiosity, are you an actual clinical doctor by profession, or do you use the title Dr V-strom for the videos? I was just wondering what your profession is?
Any way, thanks again for the help and advice. I have subscribed and it is my 'Go To' channel for bike maintenance.
Thanks for the kind words. No I m not a doctor. My profession is in Artificial Intelligence :). Feel free to follow on Instagram and directly contact if you need help. Ride safe.
Another great one. You’re solving my problems before they occur, thank you so much. I’m grateful.
I’m in lubrication mode here, and my thinking is “yes,” but would you recommend using the same marine grease on the other lubrication points in the manual (footpeg pivots and such) that call for grease? Save for the electrical components, like the kickstand sensor piston, on which I intend to use dielectric grease.
Perhaps you have a video on these tasks already and I’m just not finding it. Is so, please direct me to the link.
Thanks Again,
-WW
NO video for that just clean then and apply the greases you mentioned
Thanks for the reply. And thanks for that tip about the handlebar stem, I had a look and she’s indeed starting to rust, I will follow the procedure you demonstrated. Once again you’re solving problems for me that I didn’t even know it had. 🏍💨
@@whinstonwhoodle6373 Once again thanks again. Just spread the word to other vstromers :)
thanks for your videos!
I think the the clutch cable liners of the DL650 are teflon and should not be lubed though
Thanks,for the kind words
Very informative thank you
jtwardley thanks :)
Hello, could someone point me in the direction where I can buy (Central Europe) these clutch cable boots (01:04)? I've spent about 3 hours browsing the interwebs but couldn't find it.
Thanks! Do you have a video where you replace the clutch cable?
Jorge Mario Rubiano I don’t but it’s easy. Remove old and connect to new from end point and use it to put the new in place. Then adjust on how I show .
Muy informativo, tienes alguno con el cable del acelerador?
Hi Pacho, thanks. I you are not a subscriber, hit the subscribe button and look at my channel. There is a video for the throttle cable. ruclips.net/video/ExafA1i3ZnE/видео.html
Thanks
Thanks for video in very good instructions! Where did you buy the side tank stickers with V-Strom logo? They look very nice!
Thanks David, the stickers I got from this store www.amazon.co.uk/labelbike/b/ref=bl_dp_s_web_15705030031?ie=UTF8&node=15705030031&field-lbr_brands_browse-bin=labelbike
I am a new owner of a 2005 v strom got it with 25k miles. Great shape. I'm about to replace my clutch cable completely. Do you have any resources?
Use the old one to pull the new one in position. Then adjust as i show in own of my videos.

The Bearded Grump channel has one on whole cable replacement on the V-Strom 650

prolly spray in dry graphite so silicone and crap from other lubes doesn't gunk it up and cause gummy lines
Καλησπέρα ντοκτορα, καταλαβα καλα λιπαινεις τη ντιζα με το σπρέι αλυσίδας Castrol chain lube? κανει για αυτή τη δουλειά; το γρασο το μπελρει πως το ζητάμε;
