Great explanation. The tip at the end about leaving the lever pressed and handle bars turned overnight worked PERFECT to get that last little bit of sponginess out of my front brakes. Thank you!
Very good video! The step by step is very detailed! The only video I've seen teaching how to disassemble the side fairing of this generation of V-Strom. Thank you and greetings from Brazil!
I did this for both rear and front brakes, they were still little spongy. Then as mentioned in the video I kept the brakes under pressure over night and what difference it made !! Thank you so much. I feel more confident of the brake because the feel of it has changed a lot for the good!
Hello from the United States. Thank you very much. Your video/instructions are the very best I have seen. I have seen many, but your video is the best. I’m especially grateful that it is brake fluid replacement on the newer model Suzuki V-Strom.
What’s up doc! I did it, and it went very well, both entirely thanks to you. I modified your process a bit and zip tied a Gatorade bottle to the discs to catch the fluid in and it worked perfectly. I also tilted my brake lever back to be level, as I had it a bit too far forward to not have brake fluid spill out when I opened it and when I was trying to fill it up to full again. Haha, ask me how know, whoops. But I was prepped with a bag like you said, so no mess thanks to you. I’ve got and Givi SR3112 and a Kappa M9 plate on the back for my top case. Wish I did the back brake fluid before I put that on, those Givi and Kappa bolts are very poor quality, and don’t like being taken off and put back on, or even put on to their torque specs the first time, for that matter. I think I will attempt to perform the process with only removing the one Suzuki front bolt on the adventure rack the next time I bleed the rear brake. Haha, I have no choice really, else I will most certainly be needing to source new bolts for my top case rack and plate. I’m not even sure if I’d be able to take them off again without drilling them out. I wish they used better hardware with those kits, it’s a such a pain to source replacements. Anyways, thanks again, you’re the best!
You are right for the bolts, i review the racks and say the same thing in one of my videos. Yes you can do it without completely removing it. Ride safe.
Very nice step by step presentation. The only unnecessary one is the removal of the side plastic panel completely. By removing the bolt, plastic clip and front portion of this panel gives you enough space to proceed. This way it saves you a lot of time and specially if you have luggage racks on your bike.
Yea, eh? I couldn’t make that happen. On my 2019 650A, those green clips at the front wanted the front panel to slide forward to unclip from the panel. It seemed like I would’ve had to brute force the panel off to get it unclipped, instead of a graceful forward slide, and I was worried about snapping them off.
Just one thing. Yes, use as much brake fluid as necessary to completely flush your lines. No, you don't have to dump the entire bottle in, because you CAN use half the bottle and then close it tightly to use at a later date. I would not use the fluid from a previously opened container after more than a year and a half, but that is more because the stabilizers in the brake fluid break down over time than water absorption. Once you break the seal on a new bottle, it is only absorbing the water in the air in the bottle. That is just as much as you are introducing into your brake system every time you top off/expose your reservoir to air. And you trap air in the reservoir when you seal it back up. Doesn't make sense to treat the bottle and your reservoir in different ways. I did just toss a half a bottle cause someone else in the family did their brakes and didn't put the lid on tight. And I put the date I opened the bottle on the bottle. No date, no use. The water absorption occurs on the surface exposed to the air. Pump, bleed, refill exposes much more of the fluid to air than the bottle. Just a thought.
It would be good idea if you could post a video how to bleed the brakes with empty system (fill up empty system). I had to rebuild my front brakes yesterday and it took me 2hours of pain to get rid of air from the system.
If you take good care of them by changing the fluid and cleaning, lubing when needed the rebuild can be avoided for long time. I did not have to do mine because of that. But I will keep that in mind for a video.
Great video and very detailed as usual! well done and thank you. One question though - any specific instruction regarding the ABS? I believe the ABS pump is also filled with the old fluid. Do you need to somehow activate it in order to make the new fluid in or will it happen anyway when the pump is pressurized ? (Thanks from Israel :-) )
If you change regularly and before you change the brake fluid and after that, you engage the ABS in the normal way by driving and stopping suddenly couple of times on a safe empty area you will be fine. I have mine for 5 years and the previous model as well and no problems there. Just be careful on how you tight the bleeder valves in the process. If you over tight you can ruin them. Ride safe

Hi Doctor, today i followed your video and did the procedure. Great! Only for the front brakes i worked 2 hours, probabily is too much. I inserted the key and then the tube. I Opened the container and suck 2/3 of the liquid with the siringe taking care not to drop below the minimum. Filled with new liquid and started with the sequence: pump 3 times, the 4th time I keep pulled 2-3 seconds and then release (pressurize). Then i opened the valve a couple of seconds and close it again. Repeating all the sequence. Is everything correct?
Pump the lever 4 times, on the 4th time you keep pulling the lever and then another person opens the bleeder valve, while you still keep the lever pulled. Then the valve is closed and only then you let go of the lever. This is done because if you let the lever there is air trying to come back up from the valve towards the reservoir.
ABS Module is an known issue on the v-strom and people say its the breakfluid degradation fault... how to flush the intire system including the fuid in the abs lines ? or this opereation also compesates the fuid in the abs lines ?
There are ways 2 ways to do so. The "hard" way that requires expensive, specialized equipment (or if you can DIY something on your own) that fires the abs unit while the motorcycle is stationary and the more easier way that does not. The "easier" way is what I follow but it takes more time however and some iterations of the following. Before you change the brake fluid go for a ride and safely engage the brakes to the point that ABS kicks in at an open road with no traffic and good friction. Then replace the brake fluid and keep some fresh spare in the bottle.Once you finish and the same day go for another ride and repeat this so as for new fluid to go through the unit. Repeat the process and you are good to go. I ve been following this method in all my Vstroms and so far my ABS units are problem free. I ve had vstrom since 2010. Hope that helps.

Stefano, you can get one 500ml bottle and use 350 for the front left and right calipers and 150 for the rear. You cannot save the brake fluid so you will need to use all and better do all brakes within few days cause once opened, the fluid absorbs humidity.
Hard to do. Requires special tool to open/fire. Nevertheless if you do change regularly (1,5 years) and you do engage the abs by braking hard after the change, you ll be fine.
