Awesome presentation. Thanks for showing most of the details. I followed your every detail on the same motor and still had no water output. After talking with a technician, I was informed that your suppose to use an air compressor to blow out all the water passages and even to remove the thermostat housing and clean out and test the thermostat.

Thanks - it’s a great explanation that takes out the mystery and clears up my formerly foggy idea of what’s involved.

Thanks for this episode. I dropped the lower unit on my Honda 20hp, supported by your step-by-step tutorial. It was easy, and when I found the impeller intact, I used my compressor to blow out the intake tube. All reassembled, and water circulating like it should. Problem solved!

Man, I wish it was that easy to get past that key....what did you mean by just putting your screwdriver in to line it up

Thanx for this video, I'm about replace my impeller and this will help me immensely. When you replaced the lower end on the engine you mentioned you might need to rotate the prop clockwise to get the shaft to line up inside, but you turned the prop counterclockwise? Which is correct, or does it matter?

Thanks guys, really helped do the same here on my 20hp...do you not bother with gasket sealant? Cheers

FYI: the tell tale is just there to show you that the pump is working, though the tell passageway itself can easily be clogged by junk, bugs etc. you should be prepared to clean out this blockage at sea to figure out if your pump is truly working.

I have a question. I installed the impeller today on my Honda 15p but I did everything like this video did but no water coming out the tell tale or pee hole. I try to air compress to clean it out but still nothing.

@@brandonnguyen404 try a stiff flexible tool like weed wacker line. With cover off there will be a fitting out of the block to remove and inspect. Tell tale is just a short rubber hose and office fitted to cowling body

Very detailed and informative! Is the Marine grease which the Outboard is serviced with, what you put on the Keyway? I have never done this before. Thank you!

Do you need to insert the key for the impeller ?

I've got a 2012 9.9, looks to very similar if not exactly as that model. I've only owned it for 2 years now so haven't had to do an impeller change as of yet. Runs really smooth on my 14ft boat. Very helpful video! Do you know if these 9.9s can be jetted up a little bit for more power or know of any modifications that allow a bit more power?

Thanks for watching. I'm not sure about mods on this engine as it was my friends and I do not own it.

    Have an issue I shifted
The lower unit into drive and reassembled and now can’t shift it. What do I do lol

Did you make that engine stand, or purchase it? Those giant wheels make it look a lot more versatile than the one I have.
Edit: Forgot to give praise for the random boat content! Hopefully the algorithm favors it and we can get more soon! :D

Marine shop owner for 45 years,,, Never put grease anywhere near the rubber impeller .... Thats not how you assemble it back together..... The impeller goes on shaft/keyway not in cup when you put it back together... Your plate and cup should have been replaced (Had non-factory groves by the shaft holes). .... they were worn out......... Most people miss that... Makes pump have less vacuum ....... Sorry, but just had to point out these important things out....
