    I hate my job and currently thinking about going to get my CDL for OTR trucking. Just the thought of being on the road by myself with minimal human interaction sounds like heaven.
    Really enjoy watching videos like this, maybe one day I’ll be out there

      Preciate your words! Glad I was able to provide some value and also keep you entertained. I’ll definitely take trucking over a standard job. The peace of mind you get is worth it. No micro managing. Just pick the load up, drop it off and your job is done. Definitely worth the switch if you decide to in the future 💯✊🏾

    Thanks for the informative vlog! I’ve been in a class B local position for about 3 years now and I really want to try the big rigs out because I want more of a challenge and obviously a lot more money. Going OTR just seems like the most common way to get your career started but I’m nervous because it will be a big shift in lifestyle for me. Some days I feel really motivated to go and get my class A but then others I feel like I psych myself out of it.

    • @anthonywavestrucking
      @anthonywavestrucking  Год назад +1

      🙏🏽 Thanks for watching! & It’s definitely a lifestyle change as far as living on the road. Personally, I feel like that would be the biggest hurdle for you. If you have your class B already then upgrading to a class A, I don’t think that would be too hard for you. But living on the road is definitely different than being home every night. You just have to find a company that allows you to be home comfortably for the amount of time that works for you. That part is super important.

    • @brody8857
      @brody8857 Год назад

      @@anthonywavestrucking yeah I'm not super worried about the actual driving and parking part. I know that will just come with time and practice. It's the lifestyle that I know will be a shock for me. Learning how to eat, sleep, shower, shit, etc etc on the road and also dealing with truck stops. I just need to keep doing research until I find the right company for me.

    • @anthonywavestrucking
      @anthonywavestrucking  Год назад +1

      @@brody8857 yeah that part takes some getting use to…I’m a super private person but I’ve grown to adjust to it as time goes by. Getting up & starting your day early, definitely makes those things easier for sure. But yeah, having a company that’s understanding to what you have going on…that goes along way. Of course we all want to make the money but working with a good company that actually cares…that’s just as important as the money if you ask me.

    • @brody8857
      @brody8857 Год назад +1

      @@anthonywavestrucking Yeah I'm not too worried about making a ton of money my first year. I know the first year is all about learning and getting experience so I'm going to prioritize a company that gets me hometime that I need and preferably newer rigs.

    • @anthonywavestrucking
      @anthonywavestrucking  Год назад +3

      I’m from Florida and a lot of companies aren’t hiring drivers out of Florida right now. That was 1 reason. & the biggest reason was…I got my CDL from a private school, so I already had my CDL license before I started looking for companies to run with. As a new driver, Magnum pays more than any of those companies you named. Looking back, it’s the best decision I could’ve made 🙏🏽

      @@anthonywavestrucking I wonder what they got against Fla? Thanks for the reply. One more question. In this vid, I believe you said it gets crucial if a trailer is empty when in Chicago? Does that mean chi is more regulated or something else lol?

    • @anthonywavestrucking
      @anthonywavestrucking  Год назад +3

      @@mattash6612 Florida sucks when it comes to booking loads. It’s hard to get good paying loads coming in or leaving Florida. So a lot of companies won’t hire drivers from Florida because you lose a lot of money when you send your drivers home if they live in Florida. & what I meant when referring to Chicago is that when it’s windy and you have a empty trailer, the wind will have your trailer blowing all over the place. It gets hard to keep your trailer in the lane when it’s super windy like that. You gotta slow all the way down and hold the steering wheel super tight

    Can you tell us what the "low bars" or "load bars" (not sure which) were that you got from Wal-Mart? I've also heard of placing flashlights in the same places on the ground at night to help. Also, what was that green hook type tool with the handle that you used to release the trailer, and what do you call what you pulling/releasing?

    • @anthonywavestrucking
      @anthonywavestrucking  5 месяцев назад

      The load bars I got from Walmart, I bought by mistake thinking they would be good enough to secure semi truck loads. They were not. The load bars I bought are for securing pickup truck loads. If you go in Walmart, go near or around the bike section and you’ll see different types of loads bars. Any of those will work. If you want to save money, I would go with the flash lights or orange cones also are cheaper. Hope that helps

    • @SweetBearCub
      @SweetBearCub 5 месяцев назад

      @@anthonywavestruckingThanks, will keep that tip in mind when I finally start my career in a couple months. Have some things to work on first! The reason I also suggested flashlights as markers is that at night, since they emit bright light, they can be much easier to see in your mirrors. Also, what was that green hook type tool with the handle that you used to release the trailer, and what do you call what you pulling/releasing?

    • @anthonywavestrucking
      @anthonywavestrucking  5 месяцев назад +1

      @@SweetBearCub It’s a pulley tool used to unlock the 5th wheel. Basically when your disconnecting the tractor from the trailer, you need to release the 5th wheel. You’ll learn that whenever you decide to get your CDL. It’s pretty simple once you get the hang of it. And whatever company you work for, they normally give you that tool for free. & most of the newer trucks release the 5th wheel on its own now

    • @anthonywavestrucking
      @anthonywavestrucking  6 месяцев назад +2

      Yeah it’s kinda hard getting loads comin in & out of Florida. But Tampa is actually a pretty good spot for loads. I would just start contacting trucking companies to see if they’ll take you on. Come companies may not give you a shot because your from Florida or brand new. But just keep researching & dialing till you find a opportunity. Transam trucking would probably take you.
