    My wife doesn't pay attention to many of my suggestions, but I knew Lawrence was right up her alley so I went with them for her. She has a new favorite group. Seriously, one foot on Broadway? Horn section? Hell yeah.

      The horn section steps it up a notch. Love this group.

      Given that they grew up in NYC and their father is a screenwriter and filmmaker, I suspect that they definitely spent a good chunk of time watching Broadway shows.

    Highly recommend watching/reacting/listening to the Acoustic/Gospel version of their song Weather. Another amazing vocal performance but I think that one really shows off their song writing and arrangement chops, an often underappreciated aspect of Lawrence

    • @mcflyjp
      @mcflyjp  9 месяцев назад +1

      It doesn't go underappreciated here. Well, maybe it does because I don't talk about it from being so captivated by Gracie's voice. But I noticed the composition and how awesome it is.

    I so very much love their live/acoustic performances where they get lots of their friends (all amazing artists in their own right, with their own bands or solo careers) in to sing "backing" vocals. I love how they always feature and credit everyone during the course of the video.
    Love the song/video, and really appreciated the reaction, JP. :)

    I just discovered these folks in the past week after stumbling across a RUclips video where they discuss the discouraging financial realities of being a live touring band, but I had no idea what their musical style was. Then the algorithm recommended this video and I was blown away by the level of pure musical talent they put on display.
    When I tried to figure out the main chord progression (F | F7/Eb | Db7 | C7sus4(b9)), I was doubly impressed by their highly sophisticated compositional chops which is sorely missing from today’s songwriters. They’ve really brought back some old-school musical bona fides and imprinted their own unique take on classic soul-jazz-pop vibes.
    It feels like we (musicians and the music-listening public alike) are all discovering these guys (and gal) together at this moment in time together.

      I never went into the cords because I was so mesmerized by Gracie's voice but just from the sound I could tell the composition was good. And yes, we are missing artists who are putting work into every process of the music.

    False Alarms Live for the next song. Probably my favorite of theirs. It also might send you down the Jon Bellion rabbit hole, which a phenomenal experience and one that I wish I could relive.

    So, first off. First time viewer of your channel. Your reaction was fantastic.
    I've been a follower of Lawrence since 2016. I've been lucky enough to see them 4 times live. First time ever seeing them live was 2018, at a venue called 7th Street Entry. It's an intimate venue attached to a much larger venue called First Avenue (an iconic venue in Minneapolis). Had the pleasure of seeing this band with about 150 people.
    Full circle moment, they come back to Minneapolis in 2021 and they played at First Avenue in front of 1,500 people. Their growth has been incredible to watch and I can confidently say my life has changed since discovering Lawrence.
    So fun watching these reaction videos of these acoustic sessions. Also, as much as Gracie is really the main act, I cannot say enough about how amazing Clyde is too. That man is a musical savant and an incredibly talented music mind.
    Anyway, cheers! You've got a great thing going with your channel. PS, do a reaction to their newest (acoustic-ish) version of their song 23. It is, as you would imagine, amazing.

      @@mcflyjp They're one of those bands that's actually better LIVE because they build in so many memorable moments. This band gets it, seriously! There are so many good concert vids on YT, look for anything from the Staycation in Nov '22....They took FUN to the next level on those 3 shows in NYC!!!

    You and I agree about the size of their YTube fan base, though perhaps if their content mirrors somewhat how Walk Off The Earth's treats theirs, it will grow. These accustic videos reminds me of PMJ with its one camera, one take format that gives you that organic live feel. But the backup singers are probably not inexpense to foot. Enjoyed, thanks.

    Great song. But definitely NOT “live”. Adlibbed, lipsynced or “playback” rendition should not be considered as live recording.

    • @mcflyjp
      @mcflyjp  9 месяцев назад +5

      You think this is lipsynced? It was performed live in a studio and probably had the same amount of post production as a live rendition from any other band out there.

    • @JeffTokayer
      @JeffTokayer 9 месяцев назад

      @@mcflyjp definitely lipsynced.
      At 0:35 “but I’m tough” it’s blatantly obvious.
      Unfortunately it’s becoming more common practice among artists to lipsync to their most polished audio composition.
      That’s why rare groups like Postmodern Jukebox are such an exception. All their videos are recorded live and in one continuous pass, with no mixing or autotune.

    • @agnespethes
      @agnespethes 8 месяцев назад +3

      It's 100% live, with some post-production, mixing. It's a well rehearsed song and video (the camera and participants moves are all planned). But it's live.
