I live an hour from TMS, that year we had free qualifying tickets and it was my first ever Cup experience (Friday only) I wish TMS and the racing were still the same, track hasn't been the same in 5 years since the reconfigure. Lots of iconic names and paint schemes in that race.
@@IanTheMotorsportsMan_YT Yeah, honestly Indycar is still kinda good with texas, but it definitely also used to be better. I think Texas as a track is just unable to put on competitive racing.
@@heidtxtreme1648 present-Texas is just disgraceful. Can’t believe they copied Kentucky’s banking reconfiguration. I hope IndyCar and NASCAR fans don’t see Texas in the future

it really was. Go watch the 2001 race. or the 2004 race. Fall 2005 was great... and both races in 2007 were bonkers! then came the C.O.T and it went to shit. Seriously go back on youtube and look at the races i mentioned. This track was considered a very high profile and prestigious race in those times. I know thats hard to believe now.. but the documentation and videos are out there to prove it
@@2jsalomon It was considered high-profile only because of the purse. Texas paid out a lot because it had the most seats of any track, except for maybe Daytona, Talladega, and Indy, and sold most of them each season.
miss the old style of racing.....just 334 laps no stages or overtime....its more boring yes but there is something to that type of racing....it makes the photo finishes even more amazing somehow to me at least
Why did Texas have to be reconfigured to become the Worst Track on the schedule???
I loved this version better
Because of incidents with Indy cars at the track
Texas track has been abysmal regardless of the configuration
@@AlBeQuirky disagree. Good long run racing old school was fun in person. Tv coverage made it look boring
Texas always was, is, and will be the worst track ever.
That Jeff Gordon/Bill Elliott crssh was one of the bizarrest things ever
Reminded me of the Kyle Busch/Ross Chastain crash
@@NoahGragsonFan629
Was just gonna say that
The race that Dale Jr would pick up his first career win.
Spoiler alert
@@kevinwilliamson9905 if its still a spoiler 22 years later, you really aren't paying much attention
@@kevinwilliamson9905 You do know this race is so old you can probably watch the whole thing on RUclips 😂.
But, was it the first race he didn't show up hungover?
@@kevinwilliamson9905 bro...
This video has to be inspired by Chastain’s near flip. No way it isn’t
Always #1
That thumbnail shows just how radiant the paint jobs were back then. Not many of them are consistently on track these days.
As someone who attends the Texas playoff race annually I hate the newer track configurations more speed does not always equal better racing
Man look at that packed crowd, now you’d be Lucy to see it half packed
Well, i still appreciate that nascar tries to gain more fans today. But yeah i doubt it's ever gonna be that full again.
Even the backstretch seats are full. Unreal how badly NASCAR screwed up after the mid 2000s
It was 4/5 packed on Sunday at Atlanta in 44-degree weather. Clown.

This era of Nascar was epic, so many big names.
I'm still sad Adam and Kyle didn't get to race together like Dalr Jr and Sr got to for a while :(
2000 Texas, back when Texas…. Was trying to not suck
But still did.
@@heidtxtreme1648 it sucked less comparing to current Texas. At least IndyCar was a lot better with old Texas

@Travis Glanton The Tower Enthusiast Kentucky still sucks
Nascar has the craziest crashes
Texas had to be one of Jeff Gordon's worst tracks to race at.
As a Gordon fan, Texas was always a race I dreaded the most. At least he got 1 in 2009. Other than that, never-ending pain.
@@noahcoleman5556 I think that was 2007 when my favorite driver Jeff Gordon won

Awesome, son and dad celebrating in victroy lane. Don't get no better. Amen!!!
I’m probably in some of those videos! Me and my dad and grandpa used to go all the time, apparently I could say Bobby labonte before “grandma”
The paint schemes on everyone of these cars are better than anything out right now
RIP Adam Petty, Dale Earnhardt Sr., Bobby Hamilton and John Andretti
I love this style of video. A suggestion for the next one could be the 2018 Daytona 500 or the 2018 Roval
@JGR4LIFE ah ok thanks bro
Yep but let’s not forget witch legend pick up his first win
6:36 looks to me like Rusty was waving Jarrett by, as if to say "sorry, I didn't mean to pass you back there".
ROW 1: Kevin Lepage
Well that explains it
Boy do I miss these older announcers
🔥🔥
Benson had such a good car that day.
1 of about 100 times Benson had a race-winning car, and something stupid would always happen to ruin it.
0:21 damn the crowds at TMS were full.. now it’s just a shell of itself
Can you do this year’s Portland race in the Xfinity Series next?
Everybody makes fun of Lepage and Little but people forget that those guys were fairly decent on some tracks.
Oh well lepage will always be remembered for a specific race in 2008..
@@TheBoringLlama So will Jr. winning the race off the burning plane with his family still inside.
Roush played favorites. LePage (really the whole 16 car until Biffle) and Little were not favorites, nor was Benson. Simple as that.
Jeff Gordon's 2000 rainbow Chevy Monte Carlo prepared for short tracks and 1,5 miles tracks is probably the most beautiful car in NASCAR history.

Idk if Texas was ever the best track in any year
The biggest mystery of all is how did Kevin Lepage start 2nd in this race
and finished 3rd!
The time when Texas was good
Man, I miss that era of NASCAR, that stuff was just fantastic week after week. The modern Cup Series is a joke by comparison.
kevin lepage getting row 1💀
