Yes Shane winning would probably would have happened anyway but at the end specifically Shane was on new tires at the end. People in the front like haley had 50 laps or so on there tires. I don’t know if wear effected performance much but I just kept that as a note because no doubt was Shane the best but the gap was most likely more around 3 to 5 tenths faster against the leaders during the weekend. I’m not discrediting SVG but at the end he was the candidate to win because how he knew to pass fast. If everyone was on new tires SVG would have totally gotten held up the entire time by people defending.

SVG has won 81 times in 508 Supecars races (which means SVG has more experience now as a relatively young driver than Ambrose had when he *retired* from racing). SVG isn't going to follow in Ambrose's footsteps. 2015 when Ambrose returned to Supercars and everyone thought he'd do well, given he was racing for Penske (who, once they got a good driver, won plenty of championships in the same car)... but the field was so competitive in 2015 Ambrose could barely make it into the mid pack and retired after three races. SVG was a way better driver than Ambrose then, and he's even better now (he finished fourth in 2015 - and has won three championships between then and now).

I remember going to the Supercars round at The Bend last year and Shane won all three races.
He didn’t take a pole position for any of them, on a weekend where even a wildcard driver managed to achieve the feat, but Shane still swept the three races.
He managed his tyres and pace way better than everyone in the first two dry races, but it started to rain in the third race and Shane completely dominated in the last race. I got the chance to shout out to him after the podium for that third race and he gave me a thumbs up.

@moose5724 @alexfire53-ze7px Interesting conversation going on here. Personally, my feeling about NASCAR are mixed: on one hand, they have an exciting new generation of drivers, a car that (if you solve the safety issues) is amazing, a calendar that improves year after year and teams such as 23XI and specially Trackhouse changing the sport for the better.
But on the other hand, the playoff system is a joke that pretty much only takes one stat into account and thus tarnishes the season and has things such as the guy in P5 in the standings being eliminated from contending for a top 16 spot in the final standings cause the guy in 19th got a win in a shitshow of a race and the guy in P3 only getting in cause someone with a race win had a career ending accident. Not only that, but the stage system absurdly divides races into three parts (thankfully, they got rid of stage cautions at road courses) and the charter system has only made costs higher and made things harder for a team to enter a car, while also making teams such as RWR qualify for the 500 just cause they have cash and charters. Which is a shame, cause without this things (and some actions done behind the scenes in recent years), you could argue NASCAR's the most exciting racing series out there, but their almost exclusive focus on being the WWE of motorsports hurts the true spirit of what should be the top motorsport in the US (alongside IndyCar). Cause even without playoffs, we would've had some legendary title battles in the past decade or so, including this year.
Also, some NASCAR content creators making a sport out of attacking F1 and its fans for no reason whatsoever doesn't help.

The Cup drivers are experienced there. There’s also no wet weather in the forecast. Nah nah screw that. F1 is a waste of a talent like that. F1 it doesn't matter how great you are if you're not in the best car you're screwed. Lando Norris for example no way he's winning a championship. Not because he's trash but because McLaren is a not a top 3 team. Even if it was it can't compete with Red Bull rn or Mercedes in the past. I'm tired of people saying F1 is the pinnacle of motorsports. For the cars yes it is but for the drivers really not. SVG is way better off coming to NASCAR or racing WEC or IMSA. And let's not discredit V8 Supercars the man is a 3 time champion of the Supercars his talent is being shown the best way it can. If SVG comes to NASCAR full time and makes a competitive career even if he doesn't win a championship. If he wins races and is inside the top 15 week in and week out and gets many top 5s and top 10s. I think that shows his talent for racing way more than riding around a mid pack team in F1. And his Supercars championships already proved that too. Unless F1 was your childhood dream I don't think any great drivers should bother wasting their time in that money pit.

15:25 I’d argue that there’s two more reasons for SVG’s win.
The first one being luck. Sure, he did pass 17 cars in 25 laps, but 12 of them did kind of beach it in the tire barriers.
The second, and most important I’d say, was his tires. It wasn’t mentioned much in the video, but SVG’s tires were over 20 laps newer than Haley’s and Elliott’s. Both Haley and Elliott are not locked into the NASCAR playoffs, and they both needed a win to make it in, leading to this desperation call to not pit for tires. Haley and Elliott tried their best, but their nearly 40 lap old tires weren’t going to do much to help them hold off SVG.

Fun Fact: Noah Gragson (the one in the 42 that went into the tire barriers multiple times at Chicago), recently got indefinitely suspended in NASCAR because he liked an offensive meme. He also had one of the worst rookie seasons I have ever seen, at least for NASCAR standards. It's currently rumored that his team, Legacy Motorclub (in which both NASCAR legends Jimmie Johnson and a slowly-letting-go-of-ownership Richard Petty co-own the team along with another team that merged called GMS), looked for an excuse to get rid of Gragson (hence being suspended indefinitely first by the team and then NASCAR itself). So Gragson is probably not coming back anytime soon.

Not only have I been waiting for a video like this for NASCAR (and one for Supercars, c'mon Josh, I wanna see another Supercars video) but the fact that you've got all your facts right about drivers and teams and events and your story telling abilities made this a million times better! SVG winning this race was and will be the highlight of NASCAR this year. As a diehard Cup fan, this was super fun to watch and meant a lot to the fan base. Heck, I spent a lot of time in the last year keeping up with Supercars, so having so much knowledge of Supercars and SVG prior to this event made it even more surreal. Indy this weekend will be interesting to see with SVG, Kosteki, Kobayashi, Button, and the rest of the Cup field, but the SVG effect is definitely here in NASCAR for the better.

Awesome video! This is my first year watching V8 Supercars and I’ve loved it! So it’s cool to see the drivers try out NASCAR. I’ve always been an Open Wheel / Touring Car fan so I haven’t watched a lot of NASCAR but these drivers moving around make me want to watch it more. I just wish they would get rid of the Stage System and Playoffs. Just make it like the 90s where you do a race and get points. Most points wins the championship.
