    Every visit to this channel is like a mini vacation, one of few things that helps me get through Covid isolation. I came here for the volcano, and stayed for the history, photography and humor. It’s far more interesting than anything in southern Arizona where I live. I still laugh when I think of some of the food related videos.

    Thank you so much for this video. I've often considered stopping in Akranes during previous visits to Iceland but simply never got around to it but this video inspired me to do so. I just got back home a week ago from another holiday in Iceland (7th visit) and can honestly say that Akranes is a beautiful town and well worth stopping for a few hours at the very least.
    We visited the lighthouse, the church and took some great photos of the Höfrungur shipwreck which looks eerily majestic as well. The town is also strewn with beautiful murals which were great little finds while walking around and we made some friends in a small local restaurant at lunch time. Such a wonderful town and I would like to go back again and try the pool facilities.
    Many thanks Gylfi!

    Was there last week. That tunnell is quite a feat of engineering. I miss Iceland a great deal. But I'm going back in January and I tend to explore this town a bit more after this video. Thank you.

    The tunnel in fantastic and fast, but I would advise any more-than-once visitor to Iceland to take the long trip round the fiord at least once... the road is quiet and spectacular!

    Certainly it is a very picturesque town, and who doesn’t like lighthouses.....?Wonderful to be able also to view Northern lights from such surroundings! Only one drawback that can be imagined but may never be an actual problem; the peninsula part appears not to be a great deal above sea level. Through remnants of recent hurricane Fiona, Nova Scotia received much damage as well as parts of Newfoundland. Some of this came from storm surges that took away homes. Hopefully, with Iceland being much more Northern, this will never happen. Thanks for another great production from Iceland. Your work is appreciated!

      @@JustIcelandic we have a beautiful one at Peggy’s Cove here in Nova Scotia and there were quite a few in New Brunswick . Our son from British Columbia wanted to get as many as he could for his photography. I guess people who don’t live around the sea find it a wonderful background or should I say foreground?🧐 I find them interesting also except I would love to go to the top of each one....(which you can’t usually, of course) You can with a drone though!😊

    So it's not my imagination that Icelandic architecture is all over the place. I love it! The sheer variety of styles and colors in neighborhoods are so much more pleasing than look-alike apartment blocks. Another fascinating education, with jaw-dropping views and humor that makes me chuckle while learning. (Historians on steroids - lol!) Thank you!

    Like many of your subscribers, I live in the USA, and find, as "AB" said, your videos to be like a mini vacation. While I do live near a national forest and a local preserve, and it's pretty quiet (except during frog mating season 😂) I think the quiet of your country must be refreshing. The views of the auroras must be breathtaking...and since we are experiencing a solar maximum for the next few years, they must be almost non-stop. Thank you for the nice tour and histroy of Akranes...enchanting town. 🤗

    Question: do you miss, notice, feel that Iceland has "no" (i.e. very few big, bigger) trees? I've seen a dozen or so of your wonderful clips. I would seriously miss not seeing pines and fir trees - or even palms or baobabs if I moved to Iceland. Take Oregon, USA as my youth reference. Trees everywhere. Now living in France and driving to see your country in June 2023! Looking forward to watching more of your work and hoping we'll avoid earthquakes and volcanic eruptions. Thank you for your stories and facts on Iceland! Linda

    Do homes in Iceland have basements? Are many of the citizens in Akranes descendants of the Irish founders? Some DNA might explain why the soccer players come from there.
    What would be the entrees in the most popular restaurants in the area/ What seafood is typical there?

    • @JustIcelandic
      @JustIcelandic  Год назад

      Some have basements, see don't, no rule there :) and I haven't found any info about if they are descendants of the Irish founders, doubt so actually, but I recommend Galito, the only place i've tried, and many these times actually :) recommended :) galito.is

    I am really interested to know how you get fresh vegetables, fruit and other foods. Is everything imported. Is Iceland a tax haven? I guess I'll find out when i get up there. Do you have any forests, i see some trees.

    • @JustIcelandic
      @JustIcelandic  Год назад +1

      Fresh Icelandic vegetables are grown mostly during summer, less during winter and fruits are imported. as for firsts I'm recommending this video :) ruclips.net/video/5lAegYUc1lU/видео.html
