What I like about the piano is the teaching lineage. JS Bach taught CPE Bach, and I learned keyboard exercises from his manuscripts. Beethoven taught Czerny. I watched the video that you did after he had died, and felt that was one of the most heartfelt remembrances you could have done. I feel that I have inherited the teachings of Dr. Craig since you have helped me a lot.
I remember he told us one time that one of his teachers (don't remember which one) was taught by a student of Johannes Brahms. So, we are all descendants of Brahms when it comes to learning piano. There is still some info on Vincent's start here: www.wcupa.edu/music/keyboardVocalFaculty/vCraig.aspx
We learned from the time we were 4 years old so who knows what bad habits I have. Lol! We learned the fingering as a kid and it made playing the piece easier than if we didn’t do the fingering correctly. I have that book on scales! lol! My lessons were only on Saturday’s for 6 years straight (I had lessons for 8-10 years). Now, I am practicing a piece bit by bit for smaller practice sessions. I may take lessons again to focus on chord work. Right now, I am teaching myself, ‘I Can Only Imagine.’ My objective right now is sight reading since I have not touched the piano in 20-25 years and I picked it up again last summer. It’s like riding a bike (lol) and it came back to me. I love that Mozart Sonata. I didn’t know it was covered in my Sonatina book. I started playing that Sonata again. I didn’t realize I had played it. I am not sure if it was for a lesson or I played it for fun as a teen. I have those Hanon and Czerny exercises. As a kid, we didn’t have recording on the piano (lol) nor could we record unless we had a cassette tape. I discovered a recording feature on my electric piano, so I am recording myself on that and on the phone. Metronome was my nemesis as a kid. Lol! My piano has one. My piano teacher wrote 1, 2, 3 + on Clementi’s Sonatina in C b/c I played it for fun and played it too fast so she finally assigned it as HW. My mom hated me playing that piece b/c I would not play it correctly. Lol!
TIM, PLS ANSWER AND HELP ME!! So, i am a self-taught pianist, i know how to read sheet, but i wanna improve my skills. I have 1 hour per day to study piano. Methods books seen to easy for me, but i dont wanna skip things. So , in my routine, do you think that i can use the Sheets from Adults adventures 1 to practice sight read, and my repertory be the sheet musics on the Adults adventures 2 (Faber) ? I dont know how can i have a progressive repertoire, i should use Magdalenas Bach first or should use Adults adventures 2 sheets? Thank you, i am having some difficulties to organize my routine, i've saw a lot of your videos. I think that 1 hour is to short to do alot of things, so, when i finish making my routine schedule, can i send here for you to see? Another thing, should instead of studying 1 hour straight, divide my time in 4 parts, and study 15 mins, then a mini pause, just to go to bathroom and drink a water?

It is good advice for student pianist like me but it seems that this is only for classical pianist. Why ignoring ear training is not mentioned? It is important as sight reading and enjoyable skill to learn Does playing piano is about playing songs in the sheet music? Does playing piano is only for classical music where the music is in the sheet music? Why don't talk about ear training and pop songs?
