In 1994 - I saw this movie at the show, and as soon as Cameron Diaz came on the screen, I thought…”This is a tremendous movie star in the making”. Felt the same way the first time I saw John Travolta when “Welcome Back, Kotter” premiered on TV. It’s just so much fun to see the beginning of the career of a superstar!! 💕
Agreed %110 percent. The way they did her make up or who knows what in the movie but she did look amazing in this film and it has since never been captured before with her in roles since. Her car sex scene in that one movie was super odd with Javier Bardem.

@Demonic-Deadbeat Yeah but they counted Son Of The Mask as a sequel so uh if you wanna continue Stanley Ipkiss' story you would have to do what The Lion King did make a 1 1/2 movie!
The yellow suit is designed as a "Zoot Suit", often associated with Swing music, especially in the 90's. As the scene in which he wears it is also a dancing scene featuring swing music, it fits the moment perfectly.

I absolutely love this movie! Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz are such an amazing duo and couple! This movie is so much fun to watch. It’s incredible to watch over and over again. My favorite part is probably the Cuban Feet scene. Thank you so much for doing this video and sharing your thoughts with us on the Mask!
Fun Fact: Not ONLY was there a Mask cartoon, they also did a crossover episode with the Ace Ventura cartoon. There was also a Dumb and Dumber cartoon, but I don't remember it lasting long.
+Brandon Page, there really was, if you have the VHS to the _Dumb and Dumber_ movie, on the advertisements you can find a quick ad for a _D&D_ cartoon. I mean man, Jim Carrey had three movies in 1994 that inspired cartoons. He was a gold mine for Hollywood back then.
The Mask cartoon was massively popular over here in the UK... And the figurines were too. I know that much... Along with Beetlejuice as well. I remember that being on on Saturday mornings.
Although I don't remember the Jumanji cartoon, I can't even say I knew there was one, I completely remember The Mask cartoon. I was one of my favs along with Pinky and the Brain, Ren and Stimpy, Animaniacs, and Rocko's Modren Life, among others(I'm truly a full on 90's kid), which followed that weird cartoon concept, that incorporated child with adult humor. Love the videos btw, Its awesome to see a list about movies I loved as a child being showcased and appreciated.
Awesome video. The Mask cartoon was pretty big here in Brazil, as it was on TV five days a week in a kids show, among other great shows from that era (Tiny Toons, Animaniacs etc). And the toys were pretty popular as well. I had the chance of checking out some of them, although never having one myself. Keep up the great work, man!
Yeah twice first Ace showed up in The Mask cartoon then The Mask showed up in the Ace Ventura cartoon and it directly continued where the first crossover left off
ah yes, right. Thanx for the reminder. ^^ If also remember right, the one in Ace Ventura was also in space, with aliens based on the xenomoprhs. And Aces butt turned into the mask at some point. XD
Update: While making this video Minty Editor and producer Jack was found at the coco Bongo night club. While he doesn't remember how he got there, he does remember a wicked dance number featuring some green guy in a yellow suit.
Hi Minty, love your videos, and you're humour actually makes me laugh out loud :D could there be a video on 10 things we didn't know about Cool World? It's one of my fav films where cartoon and real life are combined :)
Certified classic. I honestly think that this is Jim Carry's Magnum Ops when it comes to comedy. The lines, the way he became a living Stretch Armstrong and the use of CGI are used perfectly and sparingly. Also, I had a feeling when watching it as a kid when the redhead died cause she never reappeared after she betrayed Stanley. This is a little bit sad but she sold out her co-worker for money and she paid the piece with her life.
I remember the first time I saw this movie as a kid. And what really made me laugh the hardest are "Look Ma I'm roadkill" and the bit where his whole skull popped out of his head after he bolted up the massive doors only to find the entire police force waiting for him. Idano why but to this day the roadkill line and skull popping are just the funniest things in the whole movie to me
The reason Jim Carry was so successful was the fact he was the bridge between children and adults. I remember watching the mask and wading the “grown up parts” of Stanley Ipkiss’ life just to get to the cartoon toonish parts. Who else could take a movie about a bank heist, the mob, a hopeless romantic and him getting framed, and make kids interested in that story? Who else could take the idea of someone looking for pets and influence a slew of kids? Who else could take the idea of traveling across the country to return a briefcase one of the most enduring movies? Who made court fun? Or made the idea of getting cable a journey? He was the adult that spoke to children. And it was like taking a big kid and showing us what it’d be like if you would have come across something like that in everyday life.
One of my favorite Jim Carey's movies! my top five are : 1. The Mask 2. Ace Ventura: Pet Dectective 3. Batman Forever (dont come for me in the comments, lol! I love those movies and the soundtracks and yes, I still have them on vhs) 4. Dr. Seuss How the Grinch stole Christmas 5. Dumb and Dumber
I was one of the few kids who loved everything about the mask as a kid. It was hard to find the figures but I had a couple as well as the green mask. I loved the animated series first then the movie so the mask, RoboCop, batman and superman were my favourite heroes.
What I already knew about the film: 10. The Comic Books 6. The Original Sequel 5. The Animated Series (And The Jumanji One) 4. Peggy's Death Deleted Scene (I wish that stayed in the film)
There’s a reason for that scene being omitted, they were planning to use her in the original proposed sequel in which she uses the mask and becomes well the next wearer, they did use the idea in the animated series when the movie was cancelled (until that crappy one was made years later). I know some would throw a hissy fit over the fact of a female Mask but they really should read the comics, anyone can wear the ancient mask.
I actually loved this movie when it came out, simply because it was weird and funny and my nephews liked it also when they were younger. In fact, my youngest nephew would always mimick the lines "SSSSmokin" and "Ssssomebody stop me!", making everyone laugh. I do remember the cartoon, however, I also thought it was too over the top, but the nephews watched it and loved it, they even had the action figures. I did know it was based off Dark Horse comic books and knew that the comic was dark and violent. As for a darker reboot, that would be cool. However, I have a feeling that a reboot of the Mask that is closer to the comics probably wouldn't go over well with those who are fans of the movie and never read the comics. Btw, The Song "Hey Pachuco" is one of my favorite songs, because it's Swing/Big Band.
I remember the Mask cartoon. I loved it and I had a mask action figure too. It was hilarious. I had to have watched the movie 200+ times as a kid on vhs.
Would love to see a mask 2 with jim again. And also maybe a dark horror version as well would be neat to see as well. Also could you please make a video of 10 things about critters? Fun fact I lived about 2 hours from the town it was filmed in "grovers bend" at one time
I have four of the action figures, two of the dog and two of the Mask. Unfortunately they came from the thrift store in a plastic bag with their original containers. I love them anyway. Wish I could have found more. Thanks for the info. Love your work Minty💞
I was going to say that I think a lot of people associate the Mask with his yellow suit because of the animated series, same as Beetlejuice and his suit. And so its good you mentioned the animated series. But also, the people who never saw the animated series probably associate him with the yellow suit because that's what's on all the advertisements, covers and merchandise. I mean, pretty much every example in this video that isn't from the movie has him in the yellow suit.
As for the cartoon series, I also like this way more then the movie, it's so fun to watch, and it's the best Jim Carrey's cartoon incarnation. For me, it's the tru Mask II, altough on a series format, LOL!
Bryce Mckenzie Honestly doubt they would go that route for a Mask 2. Especially if Jim returns to be Stanley Ipkiss again. That'd be great as a reboot or maybe a fan made series but doubt it'd happen for a direct sequel.
a jim carey sequel more like the comic could work, 25 years later and has driven stanley psycotic or something , maybe done like sin city tarantino style.
They Did Already Did Son Of The Mask So If I Were The I Would've Called The Sequel The Mask 1 1/2 Giving That The Lion King Did That The Movie Picks Up Where After The Mask Picks Off At The Ending Then The Mask Returns And Have People Figure What Happens After The 1st Movie
Quite possibly the best Jim Carrey movie. Granted, Bruce Almighty, Truman Show, and maybe Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (I've never seen it) may be argued to be better. I think The Mask really fits Carrey's style.
South African television is where old cartoons come to retire. I remember the Mask cartoon very well, I even had the action figure. I even remember the day I got it. I was in the store with my mother, shopping for a Batman costume for school, when I saw the Mask action figure. My mother gave me a choice, I could either get the costume or the action figure. I chose the action figure. I was the best of times.
Would be great to see a "Dumb and Dumber" video since we're on the topic of Jim Carrey. That would be awesome! Hopefully you upload another horror related movie again, but if not, I'll watch your videos regardless because you're a great youtuber. Again, if you do, "Dead Alive" aka "Braindead" would be such a great video to see.
Awesome! I loooooved this movie! I had a huge crush on Diaz too. Honestly she looked the best back then. Had a thickness to her and fullness to her face that she hasnr had since then. Great video
@Joseph Wilson Only one angel had the beautiful face originally, the other had the boobs, that came after Farrah left, he nipples were missed when she left
I also remember The Animates Series- very much enjoyed them as a child, and revisited a few episodes with friends at uni a few years ago. It's even better now, since I finally got to get, understand and enjoy the original, English-speaking version. As for Son of Mask, although I agree the movie is god awful, I loved every second of Alan Cumming in it! Not only that, but he was a great Loki here before Marvel even thought of doing anything with the character on screen.
Good review Minty! At the time, this movie was sooo awesome! Cameron Diaz was less wore out then. She had so much more appeal then. Really miss Jim Carreys work! Really loved him in this, and when he was the Riddler!! Thank, roll on Minty!!
Such an underrated superhero film. Its dark, funny, and used to scare the living crap out of me as a kid LOL. I know some of them. 1. The Mask was based off Dark Horse comics and the Mask was known as Big Head and was a dark gory comic where The Mask was a serial killer. 2. The 1994 film was going to be a Horror film but since Jim Carrey got the role and was changed as a comedy instead. 3. The Mask was Cameron Diaz's debut as she auditioned 12 times(if I am correct). She was 22 while Carrey was 32. 4. In 1995 there was a TV Animated show with Rob Paulsen as Stanley Ipkiss/The Mask and lasted till 1997. 5. Jim Carrey based Stanley Ipkiss on his father. 6. Jim Carrey's The Mask character is based off Tasmanian Devil,Bugs Bunny. 7. Peggy's death was cut in the film as she was brutally murdered in the newspaper factory. 8. There was suppose to be a sequel to this but was postponed and there was a 2005 shitty sequel called Son Of The Mask. 9. The yellow suit (Jim Carrey wears) was also worn by him when he was starting out as a comedian. 10. Jim Carrey has a nightclub named like the nightclub in the film. BONUS ONE: The makeup for Jim Carrey as the Mask was created by Greg Cannom who also created the makeup in Mrs Doubtfire. I think it took 4 hours to transform Carrey into the zooty green faced womanizer. Yes I really enjoyed this film too.
Another great video. Great film choice. THE MASK is a true classic. I do remember the animated show, as it played on the American network KidsWB and I did own the video game, which, while parts were hard, it was fun.
The game was actually really fun and awesome. I rented it from Blockbuster and passed it after few days which wasn't easy since there's no save botton like now a days. The game was true to the movie, I remember wanting to buy it but it cost $70 at ToysR'Us and me being a kid couldn't afford it.
Mr. Minty! I am this videos 172 like! Now I have a request and forgive me if you prior did this one and I somehow missed it. But would you consider doing another of your excellent investigative findings on the 1979 Movie - The Black Hole? I love your video series! And blessings upon both you and yours!
I first watched this video earlier today and, not gonna lie, hearing about Peggy's death freaked me out a bit. Then several hours later, I really start to think about that scene (without hearing what went on in the whole deleted scene btw) and really started to scare me. (Because I only saw what was there in your video.) Then I looked it up and realised it's not so bad but it's still freaky and dark. Glad they took that out.
LMAO, it sure does seem like it's made of rubber! You know, there's actually a little known movie from 1981, that Jim Carrey did, called Rubber Face, where he basically played himself, as a standup comedian.
Hey Minty, when I was a little kid and went to my therapist's office, I saw the Mask toy where his head alternated from Stanley and the Mask and I always played with it there, however it's sad because it was always in a sand pit and I always wished he was my toy.
I remember the mask cartoon. I watched it all the time. Love to see the mask 2. It'll only work if Jim Carey comes back as well as the writers. I have The Mask video game and it's as weird as the movie. 😂😂😂😂 Great video minty
Maybe this is the Mandela effect, but, as a child I saw this movie at the drive-in and the muggers on the street actually mugged Mr Ipkiss while he was still wet and had not yet used the mask. His watch was taken. This is why he got revenge on this group and why when Mrs Peenman asks "Do you know what time it is!?" Stanley answers "Actually, no". Does anyone else remember that?
It was decided in pre-production that the Dick Tracy color schemes would reflect the color palate available to Sunday newspaper color comics. It was definitely an interesting choice and outcome.
ONLY time Cameron Diaz was hot, and she was hot as all fuck too. What happened to her after this ill never understand, especially the modern day "Love that Joker" look she has now
when we migrated to Australia in the mid 90s, mum would make sure to tape the cartoon on Saturday mornings so i could replay them to learn english. I still have those VHS's. i replayed them so many times, the images have been burned onto my retina's.
You know what would be a crazy alternate universe movie, a Jim Cary Mask and Deadpool mashup movie, one where they team up to do something, hell fold laundry for all I care that would be sweet seeing those two characters interact.
Cameron Diaz has always been pretty. But for some reason she seemed much prettier in The Mask.

Yes, please do, Minty! I'm a big fan. 😄
@@itachi3222 he already did that
Quite possibly the best Jim Carrey movie. Granted, Bruce Almighty, Truman Show, and maybe Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (I've never seen it) may be argued to be better. I think The Mask really fits Carrey's style.
Good Lord... Like most bad experiences, my mind blanked out the Son of Mask lol. Totally forgot it existed ;).
I remember that cartoon like it was yesterday
Jim Carey and Cameron Diaz careers were made from this movie 😀
Diaz maybe. Carrey had a lot of stuff going on
Ace Ventura made JimCarrey

Great video
IDK why it is, but I think Cameron Diaz looked her best in this movie, after it, not so much
@Joseph Wilson Only one angel had the beautiful face originally, the other had the boobs, that came after Farrah left, he nipples were missed when she left
Cameron Diaz was so beautiful in this movie. Never though much of her since, though.
Me either.
Good review Minty! At the time, this movie was sooo awesome! Cameron Diaz was less wore out then. She had so much more appeal then. Really miss Jim Carreys work! Really loved him in this, and when he was the Riddler!! Thank, roll on Minty!!
Like DEADPOOL the MASK should be rated R not PG 13. Just saying.
Me my opinion Sche not the Carrey version. Maybe a version more faithful to the comic book but not the Carrey version
Surround Productions Honestly, we need a revival, maybe Jim could show up as a cameo (or get a line or two).

Its ok but more true to the comic. Not even B move quality.
Nice video minty. This was the first ever movie of Jim carrey i saw in the 90s in my childhood. One of my favorite movies from the 90s.
Chuck Russell! Director of Nightmare on Elm Street 3! The best.
Yeah, also the director of the awesome 1988 remake of The Blob.
After directing ANOES3 and "The Blob", Chuck Russell could've directed a more serious, darker, violent, faithful adaptation of the comics.
Definitely should've.
He also directed Scorpion King
Well, you forgot to mention the freaky and nightmarish post production images and The Mask animated series crossed over with Ace Ventura
god bless you Minty i was 21 and loved watching The Mask Cartoon.XX
Please add "The Keep" to your long 'to do' list please. :) btw, your smokin impression was cute.
Another great video. Great film choice. THE MASK is a true classic. I do remember the animated show, as it played on the American network KidsWB and I did own the video game, which, while parts were hard, it was fun.
now in my adult years I can relate to Stanley before he finds the mask.
I think Jim Carrey's face is like made of rubber or some type of material like that.
LMAO, it sure does seem like it's made of rubber! You know, there's actually a little known movie from 1981, that Jim Carrey did, called Rubber Face, where he basically played himself, as a standup comedian.
Brandon Page Oh, I can so picture that. 😄
Actually his known for having a stretchy face as he can do stuff with his face.
Carrey: facial expressions
Williams: impresonations
Hey Minty, when I was a little kid and went to my therapist's office, I saw the Mask toy where his head alternated from Stanley and the Mask and I always played with it there, however it's sad because it was always in a sand pit and I always wished he was my toy.
Because of this film, I believe that Jim Carrey should play the joker
I remember an episode of The Mask cartoon that was making fun of Deliverance. And Stanley always brought up that Peggy betrayed him.
Plus its not a reboot of The Mask 1985.
I know.
Jw Nj and it was "based on a real story".
Fantastic video, Minty, love your stuff and howdy from Texas 💪🏽❤️
I kinda wish it stayed a bit more true to the comic book. Especially during the "muffler" scene.
I remember the mask cartoon. I watched it all the time. Love to see the mask 2. It'll only work if Jim Carey comes back as well as the writers.
I have The Mask video game and it's as weird as the movie. 😂😂😂😂 Great video minty
......or 10 things you didn't know about Serial Mom.
Ultima Magic Yes!!!!
correct
Hell yeah!
Maybe this is the Mandela effect, but, as a child I saw this movie at the drive-in and the muggers on the street actually mugged Mr Ipkiss
while he was still wet and had not yet used the mask. His watch was taken. This is why he got revenge on this group and why when Mrs Peenman asks
"Do you know what time it is!?" Stanley answers "Actually, no". Does anyone else remember that?
Eye pop mask doll ....everyone in england has one.....or just me...
acidgecko72 my dad had a Halloween tie where the “oooohhh-UGA” face was depicted haha rubber tongue and everything
Great Video As Always. ❤
12:24 Wait, Did You See That??!!
Am I crazy, or did Warren Beatty wear a similar suit as Dick Tracy?
J W think so
I pulled up some clips and Warren wore a yellow trench coat and Fedora over a dark colored suit.
It was decided in pre-production that the Dick Tracy color schemes would reflect the color palate available to Sunday newspaper color comics. It was definitely an interesting choice and outcome.
Dick Tracy wears a trenchcoat over a regular suit while the Mask wears a zoot suit.
Same timeline-zuit suit
Jim absolutely slayed this role! Quite possibly my favorite movie of his.
Cameron Diaz was really Hot in this movie. Sadly shes not hot anymore. When i saw the Green Hornet remake..i said what happened to her?
That is the only movie where she looks that way, it's like she changed
Another great video from Minty. You are well on your way to 100,000 subscribers. Congratulations on you're successful channel.
ONLY time Cameron Diaz was hot, and she was hot as all fuck too. What happened to her after this ill never understand, especially the modern day "Love that Joker" look she has now
Thomas Schneider you must be living under a rock dude lol cause she still looks good
Anthony Rodriguez to each their own
Agreed, I think it was because she still had a healthy weight. Cocaine is a helluva drug
Anthony Rodriguez no she was hot in that movie that's it
You beat me to it, I was gonna say only time she hasant looked bullemic and she's SMOKIN in this movie alone
when we migrated to Australia in the mid 90s, mum would make sure to tape the cartoon on Saturday mornings so i could replay them to learn english. I still have those VHS's. i replayed them so many times, the images have been burned onto my retina's.
Minty Video it's SSSMOKIN!!!! 😀
You know what would be a crazy alternate universe movie, a Jim Cary Mask and Deadpool mashup movie, one where they team up to do something, hell fold laundry for all I care that would be sweet seeing those two characters interact.
I had the cartoon on DVD VHS
I remember The Mask and Ace Ventura cartoons. Even Men In Black. Had no idea there was a Jumanji one.
12:25 what happened
i am so addicted to these videos, been watching nothing but these for like a week now, glad i found this channell!!!!! thanks minty!!
I just love this movie and was there a cartoon of this movie?
I believe that the thought 9:02 of The Mask cartoon, gave (ITCHY EAR) poor Minty an allergic reaction. LOL
