      The Strange Place
      "On febuary 11th 2021 a ominious place in darksouls 1 was discovered by a youtuber by the name of [King bore haha], he started by using a spell called fall control to negate all fall damage, after that he proceeded to jump down a hole where nothing paticularly interesting was found, but then he jumped down another hole which led to a big fall before landing in a massive room.
      The room had only one interest, and that was the flame in the horizon, [King bore haha] immediately made his way to it and when he arrived strange creatures came out of nowhere, attacking him, and killing him.
      Legends say the room still exists to this day and can be visited with the fall control spell, but no one knows what those creatures are."

      The layout of dragon butts in Lost Izalith is randomized based on individual console metrics. Few people have ever noticed because no one has ever been interested in looking at or fighting those things. Vagrants and miracle synergies aren't actually in all copies - some instead have ghost titanite gifts or resonant s. It's random whether the phalanx or the crow demons in Painted World give a bonus drop item in the real world when defeated. (Talking to Snuggly causes the most obscure crow demon to despawn permanently, locking the latter players out of that bonus.) In the rarest cases, some copies have Painted World's skybox instead of Undead Asylum's, or have a t-posed Andre briefly appear in Firelink Shrine and/or the Kiln, which itself was once reported to have no final boss or way to go back at all.
      (I'm not interested in duping anyone, so none of that is actually the case in Dark Souls, to my knowledge. But there have been stranger and more obscure things in From's games, haven't there?)

    I think I read somewhere in an article about mimics, that the developers didn't include fake bonfires, because it would have destroyed the magic of seeing bonfires as the saving grace and as a point of pure security in a harsh world.
    In retrospect I often saw a bonfire from afar and tried to reach it ASAP, so they activate a strong desire in players to rush towards them. If I would always have to guess, whether it is a fake bonfire, the feeling would be way different.
    Mimics are a different situation, because chests don't give you security and are often at dangerous places with lots of enemies :)

      The mod "Daughters of Ash" does add in bonfire mimics. Which ruins the surprise a little. I wouldn't recommend it actually because it scrambles the game around and makes Pinwheel a seemingly mandatory first boss as well as by far the most difficult in any Souls game. He has an insane health pool that takes 30 minutes of attacking to hurt him while he can one hit the player with his fireballs. I'm not sure the game is finished as I gave up after killing Pinwheel and finding the path to Nito blocked by rocks. I didn't feel like climbing back out of the undead pit and gave up.

I suppose it could have been seen as maybe a bit cruel but no crueler than a mimic and it isn't really a fake bonfire because it reveals itself as you get closer it's not like they tricked you. @@moscrow3247 No, what you are saying is just giving them another enemy behaviour but that not how pathfinding works. For an enemy to chase the player for example, they must have a pathfinding mesh which is a like "grid" thats present in all levels and its used to calculate the shortest path to the player and how to reach him. For many years, modders have been able to create custom maps for dark souls but, the biggest problem is that they dont know how to apply custom pathfinding grids to those custom maps. So the enemies cannot function properly, they cannot chase the player. Thats why all big mods for dark souls, like daughters of ash, are just remixing the main world with diferent quests, enemy placements, new weapons, etc...

  • @ManoredRed
    @ManoredRed 2 года назад +3

    Since some people actually thought this was real, I suppose I should point out that:
    0:07 The developers never use a fog gate like this, you never enter fog gates via falling on them, and this looks very crude. It should be obvious this was modded in.
    0:08 You can see the void through this large hole in the wall. If this was a real secret area, the developers would never have let such a glaring hole in the world in the player's sight. Even Lost Izalith isn't that shoddy.
    There are other evidence off course, including the fact that this game has been data-mined to death and something like this would never have escaped notice, I'm just pointing out two fairly egregious things right in the beginning.

    • @RetrOchannel
      @RetrOchannel 2 года назад

      ....You do realize that the entire area is rotated 90 degrees, right? So, if the fog gate had been rotated along with it, it would've been a totally reasonable spot for a fog gate, whether its placing was planned to be permanent or not.
      That "hole in the wall" would actually be a hole in the ceiling, which would let the player see the skybox/something else out of bounds if they were to look. It's not like the areas was finished, hence the lack of detailing, enemies, etc. - it looks like it was just a work-in-progress area, potentially for testing purposes.

    • @ManoredRed
      @ManoredRed 2 года назад +1

      @@RetrOchannel But I am talking about the rotated area as show in the video. I am making no commentary in the area as it actually exists in the game.
      As in, I'm aware of the fact that that hole does not face a void in the original area. I am saying the rotated copy, which places the hole in a position that exposes the void, makes it obvious that this is a mod.

    • @RetrOchannel
      @RetrOchannel 2 года назад

      @@ManoredRed "But I am talking about the rotated area as show in the video."
      ...I know that? Hence why I prefaced my comment stating that it was rotated. What did I say that communicated I was talking about some other area?
      "I am making no commentary in the area as it actually exists in the game."
      You are though, because you're saying "here are clues that tip you off that it is obvious this was modded in." Yes, your perspective of the area is limited to whatever was shown in the video, but the clues you highlight are shown in the video and, considering you thought they were concrete enough to remark on follows that I must also be able to remark on them, right?
      Just because the area is exposed to the void via a rotated ceiling piece does not mean that it *must be* a mod. There are several cases of games in which they have left-over content from other stages of the game development, from prototyping, from playtesting, or fairly or even entirely finished content that was decided to be cut. Have you seen the "Northern Limit" cut area from Demon's Souls?
      In considering, hypothetically, that this were "real", the creator could have simply rotated the entire area because there weren't any room tiles that supported a tall vertical drop, and was using rotated pieces temporarily before the art team could make some just so they could playtest it. Or maybe they were working on the area and wasn't very confident in how it was going so they rotated the entire area as a joke. Or maybe they were considering testing around with a vertical fog gate. You're treating the area as if this *must be* the final version, and you fail to realize that things may just be temporary.

    • @ManoredRed
      @ManoredRed 2 года назад +1

      @@RetrOchannel Well, you commented that the fog gate's placement was justified by the fact that this is a rotated copy from another area, where a fog gate there could be justified except it would have been horizontal.
      This didn't make sense to me because whosever rotated this could have easily removed the resulting vertical fog gate, so it could only be an intentional inclusion.
      Anyways, it seems your protest is based on the idea of that this could have been cut content/a testing area and that would explain the unfinished-ness and the use of rotated room copies.
      If it were a testing area, there would be little reason to place it there. If it were cut content they would have made sure to make it inaccessible.
      Also, I find it unlikely that a potential new area would have used copied and rotated geometry from other rooms as a starting point. If this was the case, they would need to change the area's geometry later if they made it a thing, and that would be a pain after spending some time developing it. It would make more sense to construe it out of simple geometry with a placeholder texture, and then refine it later.

    • @RetrOchannel
      @RetrOchannel 2 года назад

      @@ManoredRed "whosever rotated this could have easily removed the resulting vertical fog gate, so it could only be an intentional inclusion."
      This is contingent on it having been worked on up to X level of completion. The designer may have simply taken a step away after rotating - again, unlikely, but not something you can assume to be impossible.
      "If it were a testing area, there would be little reason to place it there. If it were cut content they would have made sure to make it inaccessible."
      I agree.
      "If this was the case, they would need to change the area's geometry later if they made it a thing, and that would be a pain after spending some time developing it."
      I think you overestimate how much time it takes to make something like this, considering all the present assets were pre-existing.
      "It would make more sense to construe it out of simple geometry with a placeholder texture, and then refine it later."
      Potentially, but you'd be surprised at how much developers will reuse other assets as placeholders while prototyping/experimenting/mocking up an area, especially if said area-in-progress is going to attach to an already-existing area with its own asset pack, depending on how far into development this takes place.
