I've played a dozen times already. And it's similar but also different, truly a "sibling" of the original. For me, I will be backing it for sure. And will have both in my collection.
This seems really similar to Project L. When I first saw the video thumbnail, I thought it was a small box version of the original, given the smaller pieces, but nope! It his looks like a redo of the original, but with presumably cheaper pieces, given they’re the same, simple shape. It still looks great of course, but a bit less satisfying as filling up the cards in project L.
Hi there! As Mark said, Square One takes a different approach to the whole engine builder puzzle solving. Instead of figuring out one complex puzzle, you essentially build your own from the sequences you take. Split/merge are also a big difference and the combos bring a fun twist. There is a reason why we've been calling the 4xcombo "Dopamine Fireworks" around the office for a while now :)
Yeah, I'm a big fan of Project L (just bought the KS big box), but i just can't justify getting this. The decision to print polyomino shapes on the square tiles is baffling. I can't imagine playing this without thinking that i could be playing the exact same game with a more satisfying spatial puzzle element instead. They should have ditched the plastic pieces for cardboard chits, replaced the puzzle tiles with cards, put this in a much smaller box, and marketed it as a $20 "express" version of Project L.
Project L is a truly great game with an unfortunately boring name. One of my favorites to pull out and teach new gamers. But I'm having a hard time understanding what this one is about. It seems like an abstraction of what's already an abstract game.
Project L is probably in my top 10 games. And I found this one to be fun as well. My daughter likes this version better, I'm on the fence. Really enjoyed both. And I will be definitely be owning both.
Hi there, the main difference lies in the approach to the puzzle element. In L you are focusing on completing the most difficult puzzles, while here you build your whole tableu with the sequences you are able to finish effectively - essentially building your own puzzle out of Sequences. :)
I love Project L! However, there's definitely not enough new content here to warrant a new game.

I'm not sure about losing the spatial tetris aspect here

Yup, it very much has the same vibe. But for me, I really enjoyed the different take on the game. Both will be games that I introduce to new players.
@@mstreed Splitting and merging does seem pretty fun (and different than the last game?)
@@lseeley Correct! And yes, I really like those actions and how they work.

Didn’t miss the launch date? Also not seeing it on KS.
Did a little digging. I think the Kickstarter campaign starts on April 23rd. Saw it in an update on the previous project L campaign.
@@JustinNichols66 thank you. A friend and original backer just told me the same thing. The day after the Earth expansion *nail biter*
Link in the description, it launches this week.
As others have pointed out, the launch date is tomorrow! April 23 6 PM CET! The link for the campaign is in the bio :)
