Cthulhu: Death May Die was one of my biggest surprise favorites. I bought the kickstarter pledge on a whim because my FLGS was selling it for the original cost. I loved it. It instantly became a favorite of mine
For Oathsworn, if you’re taking to a friend’s house to play, unless you’re staying for a weekend you’re not playing more than one or two scenarios so you can easily put that scenario’s boss monster in the terrain box. 2 boxes, not 4 - saved you 50% space right there! Thx for vid, Alex, looking forward to the “Oops, shouldn’t have gone all-in” too
Did the same. I'd rather have 3 more cool games on my shelves instead of all those minis. Especially that they have non-standard scale so it's going to be hard to use them for anything else.
Three of my biggest all ins that I hoped might make this list but didn’t: Too many Bones, one of my most played games but by far my most expensive. Ankh, less played but needs the extra variety of the different gods. Vindication, bought on Your recommendation, love all the variety the modular expansions bring.
I have zero regrets going all in on Too Many Bones, I also have all ins for Tainted Grail and Nemesis coming ( I have base nemesis already but picking up everything else through retaliation) I have a habit of going all in on a small collection of games.
So far, for me (and I've not backed a ton of games yet, space is getting smaller here), The Witcher Old World has been the most satisfying buy in my boardgame collection. All expansions are pretty much plug and play, except for the coop which is a different mode altogether so I don't really mind (It's also a shorter mode, with a limited round-counter before the final showdown). All expansions add a little but enough variety for me that I just keep coming back at it. The quality of the gameplay just screams addiction in my brain and the theme is extremely well translated into boardgame form.
Came across your channel recently and just wanted to say thanks for your time making all the videos. You come across really well and are really interesting to listen to. I subscribed, Thanks!
Was surprised Too Many Bones isn't on this list - maybe because TMB has been more of an accumulation over time vs all-in in one go? Great list, fun to watch.
I was an original backer of Oathsworn, with the miniatures. In the second campaign I deluxified with the bags and fancy dice and picked up the terrain pack, which I have painted. I didn't get the armoury, because I know that I would get fed up of it. And I didn't get the update pack as I was happy with the system as it was. Totally worth it as this is a game that I will keep, even when I reduce my collection to 25 games....at some point......maybe? I have loads of Zombicide content, although not all of them and I play this more than any other game. Black Plague remains my favourite, although Undead or Alive is a close second.
I hope you can release the “All-In regrets”-video PRIOR to the end of the Nemesis:Retaliation campaign which just launched. The video could be quite insightful for viewers with respect to how much to back in that campaign.
I went all-in on nemesis lockdown (which included the All-in for the original nemesis as well). I haven’t played through it all yet, only about 60%? But it is a long term investment for me, every 6months I crack open a new expansion, paint it, learn the rules, then play it. I enjoy having something new to open for it still! With Marvel United I did the opposite and opened season 1 and season 2 all at once! Was a bit overwhelming! 🤣🤣
I saw your comment about TMB but still, wanted to say I went All-in (well, the gameplay All-In + trove chest) and best decision ever. And it's my TOP #1. FInal Girl also, #2 (before season 3).
My "true" all-in list starts and ends with Unsettled. I've made a number of crowdfunded pledges, including a number of deluxe editions, but Unsettled is the one game for which I have picked up everything they've thrown down, at significant cost. Honorable mentions go to Mega Man Pixel Tactics, for which I got all three sets in one go but card games are relatively inexpensive, and Tesla vs. Edison, for which I backed the expansion but got the base game through other means.
Was just about to say for unsettled, I felt the volume of content is too overwhelming that I could not consume at the pace they release it. The price point for extra planets are also high I think on wave 2 campaign alone I spent $200 despite the fact that I already have the original (with 4 planets!) Don’t get me wrong, I do love playing unsettled. But the costs and the way I cannot consume that much of a game does make me hesistated whether I need all. Marvel United though…I would love to get everything if it is not shelve space. I think relative to unsettled I felt Marvel United was just smaller more bite size and easier to table so I do consume the game at much quicker pace
Well... guess we know someone's favorite publisher. 6 out of 10 of these are CMON! Not counting the last minute inclusion of CoB. It's interesting that in this list of 10 (or 11) I only own 2 of them -- Castles of Burgundy Special Edition and Unsettled. I did not go all in for the 3D Terrain for CoB but got all the rest and it's a great production. I did go all in on original Unsettled as well as the follow up campaign. Haven't played as much of it as I would like at this point but I know we'll end up playing it because the game and writing is just so good. Would like to play Monumental to see if it's as good as I think it would be. Will be interested to see the companion video to this one.
@@BoardGameCo Yeah, I was being tongue-in-cheek regarding "favorite" but CMON clearly does it right as far as you feeling like the all-in is totally worth it!
Good list. I backed White Death and that seemed to have quite a few zombie types. I'll have a read of Black Plague content to see what that contains. Thanks.
Curious to know regarding Oathsworn, did you get full use out of the armory and change load outs each time you got a new weapon? I found it was a good thought, but just a pain in practice. I probably did it 3x total, and we finished the campaign. Edit: Spelling
I am also so glad that I went all in on Castles of Burgandy. Also Z:UOA, and C:DMD. I also have all of Rise of Moloch, which I haven't played all of, but am still really glad I got it. Love the art and looking forward to painting those gorgeous minis in Moloch. I want CMON to release a narrative expansion in which one player is journeying about, recruiting the Unicorn club (learning about it's origin story and gathering clues) while the other is the nemesis floating in an airship and robbing cemeteries to do experiments while dropping zombies around towns. These new story-based scenarios would precede each of the already released chapters, which would then be like the boss fights of each story. Just an idea. Anyway, thanks so much and happy holidays to you and your family!!!
You kept mentioning Monumental so I decided to get it , it arrived last week and we had 4 plays ... it is actually a good game but it has it cons : player downtime can be long, and one of the things that annoyed everyone is how messy it looked on the table... it comes with no storage so game pieces were in piles all over the table and map itself looked messy tiles were covered in tokens from treasure, monster , barbarians, player units, towers and so on ... This game would actually benefit from having minis rather than tokens so we swapped tokens with minis from mosaic, using workers as explorers solders as army and forts as towers and everything looked and felt much better ... in general it is a very good game with an interesting system and simplicity that works well!... and yes we did get both expansions but we did not play them yet ... but sadly no original minis so had to use mosaic ones instead! thanks this was a good recomandation
I wish everyone could play masters of the universe. The game is such a blast. Especially if you're a heman fan. Every one feels strong and OP. The scenarios are super varied. And if you can score the box of power you'll have enough content for ever
You also easily could mix and match different Zombicides I feel, with a bit of house ruling and some solid card sleeves. But I agree with Alex on this one; each Zombicide set is already plenty big on its own! I just have Marvel Zombies, still waiting on the rest of it. Absolutely can't wait.
I am all in on Rise of Moloch and Unsettled and harbor no regrets for either of them. Wonderful games that, even if they sit on a self for years unplayed, are still wonderful games to come back to. Kickstarter has unleashed a storm of "large", high content, games over the last decade and change and much of it has been more sizzle than sausage, but there have been true gems that will stand the test of time and represent real milestones in game design and architecture.
Great video! I'm fairly new to the hobby and I do have a few of these games. I can say I absolutely love Marvel Zombies and I wish I would have hopped all-in on the Kickstarter. I also recently got the Oathsworn all-in and just today received Spider-Geddon in the mail. I can't wait to dive into both. I've also been curious about almost all the games on your list so will have to take a closer look at them. Since I started my journey into this hobby this last year, I've gone all-in on quite a few games. Everything looks so cool I really just can't help myself. I don't see myself regretting many, if any, of these decisions. My only regret is not realizing, years ago, how much fun this hobby is. Thank you Alex for being my go-to source for all the best gaming news, reviews, playthroughs and general advise!
My big issue lately with big kickstarter is that there's an over abundance of minis. Don't get me wrong, some amazing minis totally appeal to me, but lately I am starting to lose interest in the minis. For Cthulhu death may die and the others, I am considering keeping just the bare minimum I need in the box so that I can substitute most monster. I might print some picture overlay to put on top of the episode monster just to better keep track. I am thinking 20-30 minis is enough for most scenarios. No point in having 200 minis... I wish more games would have less minis, but perhaps improve the quality and provide more variety in the form of character/monster sheet instead.
I debated wild assent...I decided one expansion didn't count but honestly now that I think about it, if I included monumental, I should have included wild assent with the same logic.
Getting the maximum chrome edition of thunder road was one of the best decisions I have made, so much cool stuff that i had no idea i would use so much
Monumental: The Lost Kingdoms. That is the box you have behind you 😊 I went all in as well, love the game, my kids love it too. A little long at 5 players, hope the new rules from African Empires expansion will help. Also waiting patiently for my new expansion 😢 Love your videos, thank you and keep up the good work. Thierry
For me it were the Zombicide games of which I've all except 1st and second edition, marvel united and I still hope that Mordred will be similar to bloodrage. For non cmon titles I consider Monster Hunter and Horizon from steamforged but more for painting. For playing I don't regret dice throne, Final Girl and scarface along with great wall and townsfolk tussle and the three times all in for set a watch.
That MU is so high on your list is a pleasant surprise to me. I personally love that system. If I made a list like this, MU would be very high on it as well. Probably behind something like Imperial Assault, but ahead of something like Final Girl; but all three would be very high anyway. Marvel Champions is up there too, but... the deck construction makes it a bit harder to jump in and out of.
Its of great benefit that MU is so easy and quick to get a game played that burning through all the content is far easier than trying play everything from say a 4-hour per game dungeon delver or such.
And here we are, 10 days later and so happy that masters of the universe is coming to europe❤😊 love your top 3.. my favourite games, also have those all in
I mean… I am happy for you that you got your Monumental Kickstarter but if you didn’t do the first campaign this would be on the biggest misses list since they are a terrible company.
The base Marvel United game lacks the variety in the villains that really makes the game shine. Is it a simple game? Absolutely. But it's a neat design that really isn't mediocre at all. Add that it's quick to play, and it's actually really great.
Marvel United rocks. The fact that it's so simple, yet gives such variety in the villains, gives it a huge fun-to-work ratio. And with all the challenges, it's very modular with very customizable difficulty. Love this system.
When making the decision to go all in, are you playing more solo or with a game group? For example, all the plays of Chuthulu Death May Die, were more solo plays or with people?

Oathsworn I did standee version. Purely for storage space. Standees are my default option for any KS now. Cheaper, less space for the same game play.
I think it completely makes sense

Haven't even tabled Oathsworn yet and still have no regrets going all-in, as I paint my games and these minis are awesome.
I went all in. Painted all the unneeded but totally needed terrain. I regret nothing its amazing. Probably the best game I've ever played.
