    Lost amidst the surreal and bizarre unknowns of the far reaches of the cosmos, your crew of explorers must pull together to discover the resources necessary to survive the long journey home.
    Unsettled is a 2-4 player cooperative survival adventure set in the wondrous and unnerving fringes of uncharted space. There are no enemies and no combat, only an environment where every step, every breath, every particle around you could mean immediate, terrifying, death. Enemies are the least of your concerns.

    Love Unsettled so much! Amazingly done! I can't agree with the "limit of replayability". Yes, if you are playing the same task over and over again it will get stale. BUT having 6 planets with 3 tasks gives you 18 tasks. If you play them in order you will not know what the first one did to a level where you miss the replayability. ^^
    At least thats my thinking. To play a longer game like Unsettled 18 times will take me at least 1-1,5 years. So I will be ready to begin again after that 😊

    I’m wondering if the ‘base box’ laying out the framework and each planet having their own set of rules can be likened to Final Girl? Is Unsettled a multiplayer space themed version of Final Girl?

    We're loving Unsettled so far and really enjoy the writing which is excellent at setting the feel for your surroundings and why you are pursuing certain objectives. We also really like the writing style. It doesn't take itself too seriously and is done with a wry sense of humor (you can almost hear the author's smirk) without being silly. And the gameplay mechanics, player interaction, and puzzle solving means there is a great game there as well!
    We also really like Vindication. ON has set the bar really high for themselves with 2 excellent initial games!

    Great review, Unsettled is an amazing game in so many ways, I've spent days after playing thinking about where I went wrong, what I could have done differently. Yes the planet is different everytime you land because of the randomness in the tile layout and the shuffled decks which as you say can lead to RNG unfairness but that also presents the replayability allowing you to try the missions multiple times, without the RNG the planets would have 0 replayability. Looking forward to the new KS for what new planets they release. I feel like a further related project would be possible at some point in the future introducing some form of campaign where you get to travel the galaxy landing on the different planets to obtain items / clues / characters that would advance a storyline, a real Mass Effect feel to the game already. Shout out to Orange Nebula for the tactility and visual appeal of the components, few games have me marvelling at each card artwork before I read the text / icons on it and those trays so functional and time saving for tear down & set up, they really knocked it out of the park.

    Wow! What an awesome video...which is terrible for me since I'm so torn on whether or not to back this game. I missed the first KS and now this one is bigger and better. I definitely do not need this game, nor would it make sense based on how little space I have left on my shelf. It's also VERY expensive for the All-In (I backed Arydia already)... Darn you Alex, you've made my decision even tougher! Lol
    P.S. SO glad and proud to see you have Xia up on your wall. It's definitely my number one sandbox/exploration. Unsettled actually reminds me A LOT of Far Away by Cherry Picked Games (another sandbox/exploration but simpler and for just 2 players).

    Nicely done. I've enjoyed it as a 3 player and two player. So far, I've only played the first world (Winora), and I'm still waiting to get it back to the table for a second planet.
    What do you advice for a game including both experienced Unsettled players and newbies? DO you still suggest Winora? I think it might be easier to overcome the alpha player problem if everyone is exploring what is a new world for them.

    • @JohnClem56
      @JohnClem56 2 года назад

      That's one way to prevent alpha player problem. I've played one scenario with 2 different groups. On the second time through for me, I just let the new players make the decisions and only helped with rules or if they had questions. Of course I knew how the overarching plot line would play out but the 2 games felt quite different since map tiles, discoveries/anomalies, and traits were all different from the first play so the puzzle was still unique and engaging for me.

    I love the game. I also think 3 is the best number of players and 1 the worst. Also, the graphic design and art of the game is amazing, REALLY good. • @Ichthyodactyl
      @Ichthyodactyl 2 года назад

      There are 9 total planets so far. The new 'core' pledge comes with the framework and 2 planets, but there are other options. Having not played the game yet myself and judging solely on reviews and playthroughs i've seen, You will probably not find a single planet to have enough replayability alone. You will get significantly more replayability the more planets you have, but of course then you deal with space/investment concerns. I'd say 2 as the bare minimum makes sense, but you would realistically play 6 games with those 2 planets without repeating content, so unless you're increasing difficulty or playing with a new group, 2 may not be enough.
      Edit: It also comes to mind now that they are releasing more tasks for the first few planets so that may help some.

Otherwise you can still pay attention to their positives and negatives and see what you think about that, are the complaints things that bother you, do the fun things actually sound fun to you, etc.

    Really looking forward to this relaunch. What are your thoughts on the replayability for each planet? As you've managed to solve the puzzle for that planet? I think it has me concerned.

    • @Searril
      @Searril 2 года назад

      Each planet gives you what amounts to 3 scenarios, so base game would be, effectively, 6 scenarios. Think about other games and if you'd be happy if a particular one had 6 scenarios, and you can probably get an idea of what you'd think.

    • @Searril
      @Searril 2 года назад

      I should've also mentioned, Orange Nebula also sells planet boxes on their website, so you could just buy the core box and pick up the planets later.

    • @JohnClem56
      @JohnClem56 2 года назад

      I think you'd get more than 6 plays out of the 6 scenarios because the puzzle changes based on changes to the inputs (map tile locations/effects, discoveries/anomalies, traits, etc). But the second time through would not be quite as interesting because you will lose the fun of discovering the story twists and turns you had the first time through. However, it would still be a compelling cooperative euro-style optimization puzzle.
      Agree with Searril regarding possibly picking up core box and then adding planets later if you are unsure. There are currently 6 but looks like next KS this month will be releasing 2 more. So that's 18-24 scenarios before you'd repeat and even then you still have a nice puzzle with subsequent plays.

    I think a lot of reviewer kinda get confused between the different of Replayability and Content. Playing a new scenario in a new planet is not replayability it's content. Playing the same scenario in the same planet is replayability. So this game has 18 different scenario you can play (3 in each planet), that's the content you can play it 18 times without replaying anything. Pass that I think I would only be interested in playing the same scenario in the same planet one more time, so in total 36 plays. Definitely not a lot of replayability, rather small in fact, but that is not necessarily a bad think since this game has a lot of content to begin with. And they might released new planet in the future.

    • @jbirzer
      @jbirzer 2 года назад

    • @dav1dgear
      @dav1dgear 2 года назад

      @@jbirzer I do not know how the game increase the difficulty. If it's just less time to complete then I believe it won't matter. But if it's introduce new event, objectives, etc then it should increase replayability I agree. But this doesn't change the fact that content doe not equal replayability. This game has a lot of content, doesn't mean it has replayability. The same goes for games like hanamikoji, it has barely any content but it has a lot of replayability. As a reviewer you shouldn't confuse one with the other.
