Honestly, this is baseball and a big part of why fans of the game insist it isn't boring. Weird stuff like this randomly happens and can leave you scratching your head and thinking "WTF!?" in a split second. You can watch hundreds of game a year for an entire lifetime and still get surprised and delighted by the weirdness that can pop up randomly in a game. It's a weird game.
A balk is basically any motion by the pitcher that's against the rules and could deceive a runner as to whether the pitcher is throwing a pitch or a pickoff attempt. Also, at 6:03 I don't think you quite appreciated what happened. There's no outs, and runners on first and second. The fielder catches the ball, so the batter is out, and the runners are required to return to their bases. He steps on second before that runner can get back, so that runner is out, and then he tags the runner from first, who hadn't managed to turn around and run back yet, so he's also out. Getting three outs on one play, a "triple play", is pretty rare, but for one fielder to record all three without a throw, an "unassisted triple play", is one of the rarest feats in baseball: in the major leagues it's only happened 15 times (that we know of; play-by-play records before 1909 are incomplete but it probably would have at least been mentioned in newspapers if it happened before that.) Only twice has such a play ended a game. One is the one in this video from 2009 (and the major leagues haven't had an unassisted triple play since), the other will be harder to find video of as it happened in 1927!
One that I can't believe didn't make this video is the 1995 Game 5 of the ALDS between the New York Yankees and the Seattle Mariners. Edgar Martinez hits a double down the left field line driving in Ken Griffey Jr. from first base to send the M's to the ALCS! Seeing Jr's Iconic smile from the bottom of the dog pile at home plate as the crowd is absolutely LOSING their minds!! And if you were lucky, you heard the call from one of the most iconic voices in baseball history, Dave Niehaus!! "My Oh My!!"
With the one you couldn’t figure out, when the ball goes out of play into the dugout like that the player running the bases typically gets award the next base free. Had the ball not gone out of play for example, he would likely have scored before anyone could have retrieved it and threw it home therefore they give it to him. Somewhere down the line before that rule was put in I’m sure guys were intentionally throwing the ball away into the dugout to freeze play/a runner who would otherwise advance and so the rule came about
The player that got to come home at 3:30 is because a defensive player threw the ball out of play (into the stands) and when that happens all baserunners get a free base
I was actually attending one of these (the one where the Boston right fielder caught the ball over the wall). It saved a shutout for the pitcher and even though the game itself was won (i think it was 7-0), it added quite a bit of an extra flair for sure!
Those infield fly balls, the pitcher usually defers the catch to one of the infielders. It’s the first basemen’s responsibility to catch that first one.
I know this one is from the 1980's, but a game was won on a dropped third strike with two outs and the runner scored from second base. The unfortunate pitcher was the knuckleballer Charlie Hough of the Texas Rangers. The runner was Wally Joyner of the then California Angels. The final score was 2-1.
At 9:56, the guy who hit the ball was the same who scored the winning run. That was likely scored as an "inside-the-park" home run, which are quite rare. The guy who scored at 13:01 also hit the ball, but he scored because of a fielding error. That was probably scored as a single plus a three-base error, which I'm not sure I've ever seen in an MLB game.
Man, I had a moment similar to this in high school where I missed a pop fly during extra innings because the sun was so freaking bright. Gave up the winning run and that is gonna haunt me for decades. One of my fav things watching these vids is the third base coach giving the signal to continue running to the base runners. Also that solo triple play was freaking epic.
Same shit except for a nightgame in Fort Myers FL lol. I can still remember the faces of all my teammates, coaches and even the parents. Fucking yikes lmaoo
@2:40 if the ball goes out of play the runners are aloud to advance to the next base. This one was a judgement call. The Umps said he already had 3rd base which means when it went out of play he gets home.
U should do some full fight ufc reactions, Figueiredo vs Moreno have 4 fights between them and all 4 r ridiculously great fights, very action packed, very entertaining... and of course still pounding the table for a Don Frye vs Takayama fight reaction
Haha it would be great if you guys can react to Morel's walk off homerun from a couple weeks ago. He took off his jersey when he was running third base lol
if a ball in play ends up in the stands, the runners are awarded 2 bases. He had reached 2nd so when the ball went into the stands the runner got home for free. Usually this happens when a batter hits the ball and the ball bounces once onto the field then into the stands. Hitter would've had a triple but because of the rule they are forced to stop at 2nd so it can hurt you sometimes. In this case it worked out.
I'm a Yankees fan and was at that Yankees/Mets dropped ball game with my roommate who was a Mets fan. Maaaaaan did we Yankees fans party at Stan's (one of the bars across the street from the Stadium) after that one. My roommate was miserable.
There is no better feeling than getting a walk off hit! What they should do it one person should yell “yours” or “I got it” to avoid confusion on pop fly balls!
I'm surprised Kirk Gibson's homerun off Dennis Eckersley didn't make it into the video. That's ok because it's worthy of its own reaction video. Please react to Gibson vs. Eckersley game 1 of the 1988 World Series.
If the ball comes off the bat and hits a runner not on the base and its in fair territory that runner is out. However. You cant throw and hit a runner. The only way he can be out is if its a hit off the bat and its in fair territory. Lets say the guy on third base gets hit by a foul ball, thats just a foul ball. Thats why runners on 3rd go into foul territory when getting their leadoff during a pitch so that if the ball does hit them it wont be an out.

Didn’t watch yet but I hope the Phillies unassisted triple play to end the game against the Mets should be on here - since it’s only the 2nd time that’s happened in MLB history

Nothing better than the championship game of this year's "Little League World Series"! Pure drama, excitement, adrenaline, and fun!!!
4:20 If a batted ball hits a runner, the runner is out.
They had to play Jo Carters homer which gave the Bluejays the world series win over the Phils..... just ruined my morning.

The one where the pitcher stumbled is w a man on base the pitcher can’t “ fake a pick off” on the rubber.

I like how unamused by a triple play they are. Unassisted even.
And only the 2nd & last time so far that it ended the game. Granted, I only know that because of Wikipedia
The player that got to come home at 3:30 is because a defensive player threw the ball out of play (into the stands) and when that happens all baserunners get a free base
the runner was between 2 and 3.. so he gets the next full base - which was the plate
I was actually attending one of these (the one where the Boston right fielder caught the ball over the wall). It saved a shutout for the pitcher and even though the game itself was won (i think it was 7-0), it added quite a bit of an extra flair for sure!
This was a great video - you guys are putting up some good ones - thanks for posting this one.
yes a balk is when a pitcher started a pitching motion and then doesnt pitch.
I was at the Cubs walk off game a few weeks ago against White sox, our Chicago crosstown match. I went nuts lol
This video was all over the place with epic plays and straight up bloopers lol
6:35 is the worst call in baseball history... it was a long extra inning game and that ump wasn't staying any longer lol
If you're a runner in fair territory and you get hit by the ball, you're out

Guaranteed those guys are paying the bar tab that night 14:00
7:05 a balk, if a balk is called all runners on the bases advance one base and in this case it won them the game.

Those two Astros crazy played were the same year and the same batter Bregman.

When the ball is dropped in that situation, it's called I got it, I got it, you take it.
Mookie Betts is a future Hall of Famer. Plays the outfield and second base. Boston and Dodgers. And I’m a Yankee guy.
