Reason why people drop out of med school: "their desire to do medicine is less than their desire to do other things"
i wrote that in my phone. im going to write it on paper and put it on my wall. My biggest time waster is Netflix. Next time I'll ask myself if I'd rather be a doctor or would I rather watch The Office again. Thank you!

I am a medical student ,and sometimes I feel down, and I feel burned-out. I even had sleepless nights ,when I just stayed up late ,thinking about what would I be doing ,what would be suitable for me,besides med school, and I did not come up with a firm answer,I really believe that some of us become addicted to it ,and simply cannot back down ... there are a lot of difficulties that we ,future doctors have to face in order to reach our goals, especially in my country, but I won't let it stop me .
My key to success is reading as much as I can, because the amount of information given is beyond any human's capabilities ,and there are always new therapies, new viruses, new diseases that need to be discovered, studied carefully and applied efficiently to make a better world....thank you for this motivational video,it cheered up my day,and motivated me to keep a positive attitude ,and continue on with it!

Thank you so much. I graduated from high school two months ago and I will be going to medical college within 2 weeks. This has given me motivation. Sometimes I'm too scared of medicine college because everyone keeps saying that it's so hard, so long, etc .. sometimes I think if I'm even going to do it or not? I also think whether i'll even have time to go out with friends.. which scares me too. But I will give it my all, and I know I can do it. Because this whole thing that I've chosen to make is a very big challenge .. a challenge that will last for years. and I know I will be super proud of myself if I can succeed in this challenge, and wear my white coat.
Although you have to study more years than any other college, but doctors are really highly paid, especially those who have worked hard and studied many certificates. My older brother is a pharmacist, and his best friend is a doctor. His best friend hasn't graduated yet, and my brother is currently working. One thing that my brother told me is that although he is currently working, but he knows that his best friend, in only a few months, can collect money more than my brother did in all his years in his career. What he told me has given me enough motivation. Although you're going to study for so long, so hard, but eventually, you will get the results. You will be a doctor, who saves people, who is highly paid, who people look to with respect. I can't wait to do it. To look back and be proud of what I've made.

Honestly, thank you so much for this and all your other videos. I'm currently a junior in high school, and I've known I wanted to go to medical school and become a physician for some time now, but I got off to such a rocky start this school year. I had surgery less than two weeks before school started, so I was still kind of healing and I couldn't carry as much books as I was used to, and unfortunately I fell behind in the first marking period. Needless to say, I was very disappointed in myself, and I was feeling very unmotivated to even try again. Just looking at my friends who are on the same path as me, and feeling down because I know of the acceptance rates of the universities I want to apply to. However, one of your videos popped up in my recommended, and I've been obsessed with it. From this video, I learned that the road to med school, and more importantly, the road to becoming a physician is never gonna without zigzags and challenges, and if I want it bad enough, I can't just give up at the first sight of an unpleasant grade or test score. Thank you so much for teaching me that I can and I will get through med school by my own work and will. Thank you so so so much, and you have an amazing, beneficial channel and website!!!

I did poorly in high school. Like really bad. I was going through a lot and as a child I didn’t know how to cope so my grades suffered severely. So I decided to join the navy. I only expected to do 4 years and get out. I’m now at almost 6 years with 2 more left on my contract. One thing the navy has done for me is that if I truly put my mind to something I can do it.
I’ve been thinking about getting into medicine and have zero college. I’ve been out of school for more than 5 years and one thing that I keep thinking about is what if I don’t do good enough in undergrad or what if I do good enough for undergrad but not for med school.
Fortunately my experiences with the navy ease that thought a bit. But also this video.
I think what a lot of people need to understand is that in med school you don’t need to be perfect. And this video does help to convey that a bit (at least for me)

Although I know it's not recommended, I'm re-taking it at a community college in the summer because the same professor is teaching it again next fall and i'm scared of failing again. I still feel like a complete failure and feel like I don't have what it takes to be a doctor and won't get into medical school. :'( Anyone else that has gone through anything similar have any thoughts to share? @@jlayup oh goodness, I remember O-chem. I had to take it I think 3 times just to get a C. Personally, I would really do some deep self-reflection and ask yourself if medicine is what you REALLY want. Ask yourself if you are doing it for yourself. When I was going through this part in my journey, I thought it was just regular student burnout. But after some deep reflection, I realized I was holding on to a childhood dream and doing it for my parents. I was tired of sacrificing my mental health to please my parents, and had to realize that my dreams and goals for myself are allowed to change. I truly wish you the best of luck in your journey into medicine!

I am not in the situation of applying medical school (I am in my early 30s, have strong interesting in medicine. However, there're other heavy family responsibilities I have to take on daily basis so my interest does not have priorities). Anyway, your video has such positive energy and strong thoughts. I am glad to see medicine filed will have excellent physicians like you to help us. I strongly agreed hardships are opportunities to build inner strength.

I encountered some problems just like you. First i wanted to do constructions but a medicine proffesor conviced me to do this. I was a slouch during highschool until faculty even the first 2 years because i didn t know how to study efficiently and my time management was very very bad. That resulted in me having to repeteat the 2nd year of medicine (right now) and this the thing you said it has to happen to everybody. Now i realize how i need to study, how to manage my time, and so on.

I would love and appreciate a reply from you. So as you are reading this feel free to laugh at me. So basically I am in 7th Grade at a gifted school, I skipped 6th grade, and I am in the 99th percentile in math, and have a dream of be a neurologist. I want to do this because one of my friend passed from a brain tumor and I have had a few serious concussions, so I am beyond motivated. So you are probably thinking," oh the stereotypical nerd, just because he goes to a gifted school, gets straight a straight line of 'a' on his report card, skipped a grade, and takes a class with the 8th graders doesn't mean he can become a brain physician." Though I will hit the books when I get home and study until 1:00 AM.So I was not born a genius, so here is my question; my dad (who is a psychiatrist) said he was similar when he was in school. He said that the reason why I can do it is because I have an amazing work ethic, though he is the the only doctor who has taken me seriously when telling them my dream. Do you think I am too far ahead of myself, or I am on the right path to having MD after my name? Feel free to be honest, because that is why I asked you. Thank you so much for a reply and your videos.

Make it happen buddy. You've clearly got the skills, work ethic, and life motivation. Just make sure you have balance. If you positively know what you want, just find the course to get you there. You should be a "no matter what it takes" type. So go make it happen.

Your video was awesome and motivational. Although I cringe at "you can do it too" statements because realistically speaking not everyone has the innate ability to do a certain activity, I like the message you send. To overcome and know yourself rather than stay in a self-pitying situation.

That kind of mindset is what keeps people from doing things. Humans can learn and adapt to anything even if it takes one person longer than the other.

At this point, i don't really care how long it would take me to get there. But I know what i want and i want to see myself there. I wanna see myself in that white coat, an md plate beside my car and have that MD beside my surname. I wanna see the smiles of people that i will be able to help and be there with them on their lowest times, try to find the best solution to help them, and make them feel a bit better. I know this is what I want and fits my personality well.

Could you possibly give a few examples of how you studied *inefficiently* ?
I think that would actually be helpful to see how you studied 'wrong' or 'ineffectively' and how you realized there was a better way to manage your studying time.
    Thanks!

The biggest hindrance for me to focus now is i am not sure if my desire for getting into medicine is bigger than my desire for arts. Since i was a kid. I really really want to become a doctor but as i grew up, it seems like my standard for my dreams and goals became lower. I dont know but I just wanted to be a singer and a performer, i just want to be a photographer or a painter or an actress. Im really into arts. But watching your videos, It helps me think twice if i will be stable and be happy in the future if i will shift and choose arts. I guess im healing now.. I realize that it doesn't mean that i wanted to be a doctor, i can't also do arts, i think it's cool if i can be both. The gap in my decisions that i am searching is starting to fill now. Thank you so much.
I PROMISE THAT I WILL NOT GIVE UP AND FINISH THIS FIELD THAT I CHOSE!! I WILL BE A DOCTOR!!
If anyone read my story and wanted also to share something. Please dont hesitate to comment. I would love to know who else has gone through the same as mine.
P.s. I will come back here and read this comment of mine everytime i feel that i'm out of focus so i will be reminded and reflect with myself once again. God bless us!0

I'm still debating on it. I'm in my 30's and really want to get into the medical field. My greatest fear is getting run down too easily. I read and hear about horror stories about doctors hardly getting any sleep or rest. I don't have any friends anymore, and my partying days are long behind me. I feel that I could bury myself into the schooling and training. I just worry about failure and burn out. I quit heavily drinking about 8 months ago, and I'm working on kicking beer drinking to maybe once a week. Also, wish there was a free program to kind of shadow doctors or medical workers just to get a taste of what it would kind of be like before diving into premed and med school. From my understanding, med school and residency training is hell. Stories of resident interns working 70-80 hours a week on average. I guess I wouldn't mind the long hours since the hospital pretty much has every necessity available to basically live there. I think I need to have a conversation with my cousin, he recently became a doctor a few years ago after working many years in different levels of nursing.
