    Thank you so much! Subscribed! I just decided I wanted to be a psychiatrist recently and I’m at the end of my second out of probably five undergrad years (need to transfer from online to in person with premed) and the clinical experience requirement blindsided me. I couldn’t imagine what clinical experience I could qualify for.

      Hey Morgan - appreciate that :) There’s a bunch of clinical experiences available, depending on where you go to school. The best way to get connected to those opportunities is to reach out to seniors at ur college or your premed advising committee

    Thank you for the video! I’m edging towards quitting my scribe job because it’s online. I applied because nearly all places in my area didn’t allow in-person activities due to COVID.
    Since things are opening up again, I want to actually interact with patients a lot more but I wasn’t sure what I could do instead!

    Hey Arvind, just wanted to say thank you for making this video! Just about to dive in get some of these clinical experiences here after winter break. I got some new-found motivation and feel way better how to handle choosing which one I want to get a part of. Also, great input about the clinical research as I never even knew that opportunity existed for getting both activities done! Bravo and im kinda getting inspired to create my own youtube channel to start documenting my own journey... thank you

    I am going to be a freshman this fall and I plan on following the pre-med track, regarding the clinical research position, how much experience do you need to land a spot?

    • @ArvindRajan
      @ArvindRajan  2 года назад +2

      you typically don't need much experience - just a willingness to learn. A lot of labs will start you off on maybe a non-clinical project, then once you can prove yourself, you can start doing clinical stuff.

    Hey man, great video, this is super helpful stuff! I was wondering what made you choose medicine? As an incoming college freshman, I want to do healthcare and I'm smart/hardworking enough to become a physician, but what kept you from becoming a nurse/pa/non-physician?

    • @ArvindRajan
      @ArvindRajan  Год назад

      That's a great question! And it's a really important thing to figure out before you apply. I think I knew I wanted to be able to manage my own patients, do research, teach, maybe get involved in other things where the medical degree can be leveraged. I think going the physician route keeps the most doors open, but of course it is also the longest path, so there are trade-offs.

    • @hankhudson8736
      @hankhudson8736 Год назад +1

      @@ArvindRajan that's a really smart way of approaching the question. The big thing you mentioned imo is leveraging the MD. Being a doctor opens a lot of doors within healthcare and outside of it. Personally, I want to do research/treat patients, but also want to get involved with hospital admin/healthcare consulting/pharma so I believe the physician route would be best

    • @ArvindRajan
      @ArvindRajan  Год назад

      @@hankhudson8736 yeah that's a great way to put it! And I think to achieve the goals you mention the physician route is perfect. Med school is also super receptive to that - most schools have some kind of dual degree program where you can get an MBA, MPH, MPA, PhD, etc. which lets you get even more specialized. Good luck with your journey and let me know if I can help!

    Hi. Is my A level knowledge enough for me to do clinical research? Is it wise for me to volunteer at a children's hospital and then become a general surgeon not a pediatrician??. Last question, what made you, @ArvindRajan , want to become a doctor?

    How did you get a clinical research position? I would like to gain both types of experiences but it seems that I can only apply for university related research positions (as an undergrad) that are not in the hospital. Could anyone give me advice?

    • @ArvindRajan
      @ArvindRajan  2 года назад

      That’s a great question! Is there a hospital affiliated with your university? If so, try reaching out to some doctors that work there that also do research. Say you’re interested in their research and would love to speak with them about it. They may have an opening and you’d be able to join their project!

    How did you find an EMT squad to volunteer with? I'm also EMT certified but don't want to commit to 20+ hours a week to working as an EMT and was hoping to volunteer with a squad nearby, but I'm having issues actually finding somewhere to do that. Any tips?
