Call me a nostalgia biased, but I feel bad for Revenge of the Flying Dutchman. It had potential, just not executed well in the later half of the game. I wish this got remade, but that's asking alot. Still glad Battle for Bikini Bottom got the love it deserve if not for this game as a testing start for the remaining staff members who made the remastered.

If they do remake Revenge of the Flying Dutchman, they need to get Tom Kenny to do the French Narrator voice. In Revenge of the Flying Dutchman, the French narrator sounds different whenever he is heard speaking, but who he was voiced by is NOT mentioned in the game credits.

I also remember really long loading screens.
The soundtrack (while not bad) also totally contributes to the eeriness and deadness.

Also, why did they make Larry the Lobster a jerk jock when he was a completely friendly and welcoming dude in the show? Couldn't they have just made it that he was hiding from the dangers looming in Bikini Bottom and maybe help Spongebob on his quest for a bit?

I’m pretty sure that a couple months ago the prototype of this game was found. Apparently, Larry the Lobster was supposed to chase you down and attack you in the first level. There were also animations for boat mobiles in Downtown and a bus in Jellyfish Fields. It’s definitely strange that they decided to take a lot of these things out of the game. The final version of the game made most areas feel like an eerie and lifeless ghost town or an empty fishbowl.

I didn’t grow up with this game, but as someone who’s love for spongebob rivals patchy the pirate, of course I got it eventually.
I can tell it’s not a good game, but I love it anyway. There’s something extremely special feeling whenever I get to experience new spongebob content from the golden age of the show. even without the amazing writing, there’s still something very specific about the way each of the voice actors played their roles in the first 3 seasons, especially spongebob, just by the pitch and tone of his voice, I can tell this game was made around season 2. The same goes for supersponge being 1 and BFBB being 3.
I actually really like a lot of the dialogue in this game, it’s the delivery that makes it. Like it may have been out of character for Larry to be that annoyed by spongebob, but I found spongebob following him around and trying to sing him his song pretty funny. Then of course there’s the whole “booty” thing.
The only reason most of the jokes don’t land properly is because of poor pacing, everything in this game feels oddly sluggish. I would love a remake of this game that fixes all the little issues, and just puts the game in rehydrated’s engine.
Also, I got the gba version too, and it’s really bad. The controls feel awful, and spongebob’s sprite looks really weird? Like he’s got really soulless looking eyes? Every other character was just a pre-rendered sprite of the console games models, why didn’t they just do that for sponge? Also the passwords they gave me never worked.

    Shadow Streak's Game Review Show:
    1. Powerpuff Girls: Relish Rampage (Cartoon Network: 1) (The BEST "Main" Cartoon Network show.)
    2. Dexter's Laboratory: Deesaster Strikes (Cartoon Network: 2) (The first of what we would call the "Main" Cartoon Network shows, with only a few anthologies and Space Ghost (Proto Adult Swim) before it.)
    3. SpongeBob Squarepants: Revenge of the Flying Dutchman (Nickelodeon: 1) (Longest Lasting Nicktoon)
    Predictions:
    4. Rugrats: Search for Reptar (One of the first three Nicktoons, and, of those first three, the one with the shiniest legacy overall. John K's stink is all over Ren & Stimpy, and Doug was a dull first stab at the kind of show Hey Arnold and The Loud House did WAY better later. So Rugrats is probably going to be the first of those showing up here.)
    5. DuckTales: Remastered (Basically the same game as DuckTales 1989, but better.)

Finally seeing Cosmic Shake out in the wild now, that game has made me double take a few times wondering "wait, was that a Revenge of the Flying Dutchman reference??" Stuff like the big mean snails seen by the mermaid lady (an ominous enemy from this game I don't ever recall seeing in the show) or the grossout hyper detailed character portraits that remind me of the art for the Dutchman's treasures. This game had a lot of weird moments that ingrained itself in my brain - that part with boat chasing you down the pier I remember really terrifying me. The game was tedious, but it was very approachable as a kid and I think it was one of the first games I can recall beating.
Also I recall Spongebob's interactions with the Dutchman's pirates being really funny. They keep talking about fetching booty, and by the end Spongebob said a line "Don't even THINK about saying the B word!" that I remember repeating as a kid.

I played this game before Battle For Bikini Bottom as a kid and even before the SpongeBob SquarePants Movie so it holds a special place in my heart. I always wondered why, because I had the PS2 version, the game would take me back to the Playstation menu after the loading screen so I had to save the game every single time before moving on to the next room. It was frustrating but I managed to finish it. My other complaint is how laggy the Goo Lagoon level was when Larry chases you and even the aftermath of the section. Seeing the part at 16:36 proves I wasn't just dreaming.

I know many people hate this game, and I can see that it is not a good game either, but this is my childhood, the nostalgia is unreal, my first ever ps2 game. The atmosphere made me love this game, just having 0 NPC'S just made it feel eerie, it felt like I was in a ghost town. And the character models are so bad, they are actually funny, and I like that, it has a certain charm. And the gameplay for some reason, I actually kinda liked, controls weren't bad honestly, they did feel a little floaty but that's it. And downtown, even though it doesn't look like downtown at all, it's my favorite level. And I'm gonna be honest here. Even though this game has 9 music tracks in the whole thing, I actually prefer it over the ost of BFBB, the music in this game is actually very charming and catchy and it's definitely something you'd hear from the show. Not saying the ost of BFBB us bad though, it's definitely very good too but the ROTFD music, I really love. And I've owned both of these games as a child so I'm not trying to be biased or anything like that. BFBB and ROTFD were my childhood and I love both games in their own way.

I don't remember if you've watched the PPGZ anime, but I recently discovered that the first seven episodes of the English dub have been uploaded to a channel claiming to be the PPGZ "Official" RUclips channel. While re-watching the first story of the seventh episode I was reminded of a certain issue you've talked about regarding how Blossom is depicted. This left me wondering what your detailed take on the anime would look like. I know you want to take a break from PPG media for I while, so I understand if you never end up reviewing PPGZ, but I thought I'd bring it up here. I apologize if this message is unwanted. I think it's good taking a break from PPG given the large amount of time and effort you have placed into your PPG reviews. I don't mean to be rude by pressuring you to look at the anime. It's just that I happen to have enjoyed PPGZ despite it's many flaws and given that the live action PPG is still on its way -- and that looks like it will be horrible -- I just wanted to remind myself & others of what a good reimagining of the PPG looks like. I will include a link to the RUclips channel for anyone who may want to check it out.

It's honestly sad that this game was rushed because of Drama with certain studios like THQ and Big Sky, if this never happened i think it would be A LOT better than what it is now
    I still enjoy this game
it had nice music, had pretty fun gameplay, pretty neat mechanics, and has Clancy Brown to voice Mr Krabs
Unlike Battle for Bikini Bottom and Truth or Square
now one thing i must say is the Narrator is honestly fine
cause even though tom kenny didn't voice him (or maybe it was night and he had to send these files to the studio and had to be quiet lol)
Other content (games, shows, movies, etc) uses different voice actors when the actual voice actor for a character is IN the content (example: Mario For the Super Mario Bros Movie was Voiced by Chris Pratt when Charles Martinet was IN THE MOVIE
same for most of the characters!)
I honestly don't mind the Collectathon to be part of the story cause i Love collecting stuff in video games
i 100% Far cry 4 and had a blast with that so i wouldn't be mad about the game being just collecting stuff
I will say, the 100 jellyfish quest, yeah uh Fuck that quest, it took me about 5 years to notice that Rusty counts jellyfish from other locations (this also goes for Larry)
The story is honestly not thaat bad but like Shadow said in the video battle for bikini bottom had a way better story than flying dutchman, the story is way too short to me, i could honestly speedrun this game and maybe complete it in under an hour which is Not good!
the cutscenes were okay, i liked Mr Krab's appearance where we deliver food, i always found that mission enjoyable
the Levels look pretty nice, i loved Jellyfish fields, sure that one is not even close to the show but it still looks god damn beautiful, i always loved the colors of that level (and the clowns appearance was 10/10)
I wish there were more levels though, 8 is NOT enough levels, and i mean sure the levels are pretty big (except Bikini bottom and Sandy's dome) but it's still not enough content
i mean Battle for Bikini bottom had god damn kelp forest (which i know is a bad level but it's still more than 8!)
The Jigsaw minigame was pretty cool to reveal the treasure but i'd honestly rather have more than just that, mix it up a little, make it like an actual puzzle! or make it so you have a bunch of letters and have to make a word to show where the chest is
the models are rough around the edges but that's cause the game was rushed, there was no time left so i'll give that a slide
The music to me was phenomenal, they were always so catchy to me, i'm not sure why...
I always liked: JellyFishing, Mermaid Man, Reef Blower, Karate, Default and Chum world
though the way the music was coded was fucking garbage, i mean sure it gives the feel of the costume spongebob is wearing but hearing the same damn song over and over again gets fucking annoying
Some of the mechanics in the game seems very odd but some i honestly think makes sense, the one biggest one is the costume changing, sure it's annoying to go back and change costumes via the tent every time but it gives it that realism with the show, in the Ripped Pants episode spongebob is in the changing tent when he's changing into his swim trunks, this makes sense to have the tent to be the costume changer because of this reason
i wish this game had a remaster, cause if it did it would have A LOOTT more content to explore than this
better graphics, better music (and remixes of some music), Better Dialogue and story, etc
this game deserves better because of how bigsky had to deal with some of the other studios

😅mmm here’s my question: do you really think Mario’s regular voice wouldn’t get annoying at movie length compared to a video game setting?

Yeah this game isnt the best spongebob game out there, it is fair if someone does just call this a bad game. For me, i do remember having the PS2 version, and i dont think i ever had a crash, but i dont think i even went that far, i just remember not liking it, and did not like the timed kraby patty delivery for whatever reason it was, i did like BfBB more, and the movie game more than this one.
this is a great review of the game, and if you want to watch another review of the game, Badman Reviews i think did a good video too

The narrator not having his regular voice can maybe be explained like this…if you’re a company being time crunched and money crunched, which character is better money and time wise for a SpongeBob game? The main character or someone who has a page worth of lines…

Right? I always said they should take the games that weren’t given the attention needed and remaster them but make them the way they should have been made. For instance, Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly
