Games based on licensed IPs should allow offline play even if servers shut down and reinstall from the app library if delisted from digital storefronts. In part 5, you mention the game acting weird now, and that's because the servers still hosting any data at all (aka the shutdown message) has itself been shut down, and the game hangs as it trys to get any server connection, eventually failling over to the offline mode.
@@AubreyHolmes Out of curiosity, would someone be able to feasibly edit out all of the game’s ability for telemetry that causes the server to get pinged or would that fundamentally break the whole thing?
Whenever I've tried to touch anything other than game.json even the slightest bit the game has just hung at the splash screen but a couple of people who know more about this kind of thing than me have said it's almost definitely doable, so I'll have a look into it.

thank you SO MUCH for making a whole video about this spongebob game. it released right into my 2013 ipad kid phase, and it sucked a ton for the fact that it was paid both in iOS and Android :( so i had limited gameplay experiences but those few devices which had the game dowloaded... was very pleasing, and nostalgic to remember nowadays. in my case, i first dowloaded probably in 2013/2014 (??) (can't put my finger on exactly) and my dad paid using some old international card. he lost that card some years later and i couldn't install the game again on my new tablet, until 2017 when i've already switched to android and finally bought it again using gift cards! i even recorded some gameplay on my channel during that year, but since these were in my opnion "cringy" i've deleted all of them. yikes, it would be better to just private them thinking about everything now
Genuinely shocked you have such a low subscriber and view count for this otherwise very impressive video! Digital necromancy just isn't as appreciated as it should be, I suppose

Jeffy finally is going to not ask for his dad’s credit card when he sees this.
@@BKBluey it was only $2.99 why couldn't Mario just buy the game smh
@@Garrett367 Because he bought him another game.
Oh! wasn't that the episode where he turned emo? It's been awhile since I've seen it lol
I honestly didn’t pay attention to the first part of the video bc I thought it was a real ad and I had to go back and rewatch it once I realized
This used to be one of my favorite games! I cant believe I forgot about it. This was really a blast from the past.
This video makes me so happy. I played this game so much when I was a kid and I did the same thing (minus the infinite money) and was devastated to see it shut down
How convenient, i was actually just thinking about this game and was sad that it was removed
Love this, didn’t know it was taken down, I have redownloaded it twice in the past couple years. Need one of these for minions paradise and SpongeBob marbles and slides now tho
In part 5, you mention the game acting weird now, and that's because the servers still hosting any data at all (aka the shutdown message) has itself been shut down, and the game hangs as it trys to get any server connection, eventually failling over to the offline mode.
I was starting to think this was what's happened as well, but the Android version at the very least is still able to kill itself sometimes.
@@AubreyHolmes Alrighty
bro unlocked a memory i forgot i had
This is sad. I thought it was still running
I’m so glad this video is getting so much recognition, very random but amazingly crafted
ultimatespongebobfan101 mentioned + peak game mentioned
also very good video!
also back in the day, you were required to have wifi on iOS, it was agonizingly slow too :)
Thanks - I'm glad it wasn't just me being impatient as an 8-year-old that I'm remembering and it really was that slow back in the day!
@@AubreyHolmesIt was definitely better back in the day; I used to change date and time to get infinite coins and food
Dude, i thank you for doing the lords work. I remember playing this as a kid and being disappointed to see it gone. This just made my day much better.
bro, this game and simpsons tapped out were the shit back then. i will always remember these games. it was so sad to hear this game got completely wiped from existence.
Still amazes me how Tapped Out still has updates to this day but it also sucks I can't access my account anymore because they require a code to be sent to your Email and the Email I used doesn't exist anymore
rare yt good recommendation pull to listen to while i clean
At 34:38 , I think the reason why the amount of food you can have is 32767 is that is the highest number you can display in the 16-bit integer binary code.
Oh my god I remember this game!! I played it a ton as a kid!! I’m so glad you revived it!!
Fun fact: this game was in "sml short: jeffy's tantrum" (the video that made a kid tie a noose around his neck)
how stupid was that kid
@@Happy_Koopa_boi that is a sentence
absolutely banger video, thankyou so much for putting this together
as a hobbyist gamedev in my free time, love watching stuff like this, it shows me what not to do to players (like taking a game that has an offline mode and killing it entirely just because we're taking down the servers)
I REMEMBER PATRICK BEING A LEVEL 30 SOMETHING UNLOCK I WAS SO UPSET CUS I WANTED TO HAVE THEM BOTH TOGETHER AND MAKE BIKINI BOTTOM LOOK LIKE IT DOES ON TV
What a trip haha, great video friend and kudos on leaving your mark on game preservation history! Mad respect for anyone trying to keep stuff like this alive
Anyone with any experience in any amount of coding is dying trying to watch this
Don't worry I'm well aware of the pain I'm inflicting on those people
this video proves that you can do stuff without knowing how it works.
Thanks for sharing! It came out around same time as Simpsons mobile tap game with similar play structure. And I think ultimately they all came as a result of games like Age of Empires and FarmVille. lol
19:49 to 19:59 this transition got me so hard. i laughed audibly and loudly.
i was 9 and accidentally charged my parents card $200 playing this game, it was a huge situation lmao
omg that literally happened to me with subway surfers
Half the time this man speaks like Sherlock or the Doctor and I can barely understand anything he's saying yet I process it all at the same time.
Now all that’s left is to setup a Private Server for the game!
I bet that would be easy for android iOS would be another story tho
thank you SO MUCH for making a whole video about this spongebob game. it released right into my 2013 ipad kid phase, and it sucked a ton for the fact that it was paid both in iOS and Android :( so i had limited gameplay experiences but those few devices which had the game dowloaded... was very pleasing, and nostalgic to remember nowadays. in my case, i first dowloaded probably in 2013/2014 (??) (can't put my finger on exactly) and my dad paid using some old international card. he lost that card some years later and i couldn't install the game again on my new tablet, until 2017 when i've already switched to android and finally bought it again using gift cards! i even recorded some gameplay on my channel during that year, but since these were in my opnion "cringy" i've deleted all of them. yikes, it would be better to just private them thinking about everything now
I REMEMBER THIS
That's some impressive work you've done there mate!
Holy mackerel so cool, I should probably check in to see if Skylanders Lost Island is alive
This is some good work dude I'm loving the editing and jokes.
Genuinely shocked you have such a low subscriber and view count for this otherwise very impressive video!
Digital necromancy just isn't as appreciated as it should be, I suppose
omg i remember this!! i always thought the sound effects were rlly satistfying in this game
Would it be possible to pull this sort of necromancy with Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow as well?
Was not expecting such a thorough video. Good job.
This video right here made me realize...... Wait this was taken off google play and app store? (Actually all the apps were removed, I just checked soooo RIP Nickelodeon Apps 2010s - 2024? Idk)
2010s - 2021
@@P6057Wait 2021? I could have sworn i saw the apps back in 2023 and even early 2024
Hey! This was a really awesome video. I personally have always been fascinated with old iOS games and I really enjoyed your efforts to preserve and to show off this game to still be playable long after it has been offline.
Me personally I’ve always wanted to get Zuma’s Revenge for iOS working since it’s a really great version of the game. (Haven’t had much success unfortunately).
That being said this was a fantastic video and I definitely wouldn’t mind seeing more stuff like this.
