Mandark's Lab (PS1) Did Not Age Well...

- And now it's time to finish off the list of Dexter's Lab video games with the PS1 title! Mandark's Lab, unfortunately, is nothing more than a glorified minigame collection that has aged pretty poorly by today's standards. Even still, taking a look at the game for this video was a fun time and it was cool getting to relive the fifth generation console days again by returning to this title.

I like how Dexter always walks around with his hands behind his back. Such a casual walk for a dire situation.
Little tangent here, but it would've been awesome if they made a game based on the original series finale, 'Last but not Beast.' Mixing Kaiju, superheroes, giant Mecha, and Dexter's equipment sounds like a perfect recipe.
Also, I love it whenever an artist does a caricature of themselves, and Genndy's here is no exception.
I think its really neat they could redub and edit footage. Its somewhat easy to tell where what is from sometimes. Also if you use the one cheat to unlock all minigames, a mandark voice clip will play angrily calling you out for it.

I love these Video Game Reviews you do, Shadow. I think their so informative, nostalgic and relaxing. The way you talk in theses videos is very calm and still energetic and its such a good mix for me to just chill and listen. Anyway, really good work ^^

I was playing Spyro as I clicked on this video. It's funny what games I missed while being very much into these series at the time.
while the reused clips being dubbed over for the game is a bit weird and slightly disappointing, I also understand why they did it. It was a cheap way to get the game's story across, and like you said I'd prefer an attempt be made than have it be "select this mini game from the menu and play it" sort of thing.
Shadow: I remember having fun in Buzz Lightyear of Star Command for the PS1.

I have a huge amount of nostalgia for this game, and Stuart Little 2 on PS1. That was another pretty good licensed game
I'd somewhat remembered playing this Dexter's Lab game back then was pretty fun
Makes me wonder what non-Dexter game would best make for a case study for making a Dexter game.
How about Ratchet and Clank? The game has you in a clunker junk universe, and you can get weapons based on the amount of nuts and bolts you got. If you want a tv-based game, there’s also Wallace and Gromit in Project Zoo, where the title characters face against Feathers McGraw (a character from the academy award winning short “the Wrong Trousers”), by rescuing multiple animals and getting new weapons. These two examples could’ve helped Dexter have a game with it’s own identity, rather than focusing on games that didn’t have a similar premise for a sci-fi video game for kids.

Oh boy this game. Loved Mandark's Lab on PS1 as a kid and had fun with it from time to time as I grew up but looking back the game has aged but it was a fun time killer though not something to come back to.
Huh, neat, I got my PS3 around the same time and Force Unleashed was one of the games that came with it (I also got Littlebigplanet)... sadly, I think the disc was scratched up a bit so I could only progress up to the Medical Bay before the game crashes, I also loved playing the Wii port.
I didn't buy too many licensed games as a kid, I usually rented them, I haven't seen a lot of Dexter either so I can see why people skipped out on it, it looks so-so.

Rented this game from Family Video or something as a kid. When it came time to take it back, it legitimately went missing and I could not find it. Did find it eventually, long after the late fee was paid, and I just kinda held onto it. Hated it but I played it all the time. Same happened with Sim Theme Park.

God damnit! Am I going to need to get a bingo card where every square just say "shadow streak mentions sonic heroes in a video"! What is this like the 5th time now? I guess deep down every game is just a sonic heroes.
It's not misleading, they just used ti as a title to make it more intimidating.

I feel the same about the PS1 nostalgia. Never had s PS1. PS2 was my first. Ironically, I did get Buzz Lightyear for PS1 because backwards compatibility, but it's nothing special.
Buzz Lightyear of Star Command? That game sucked. Toy Story 2 PS1 is amasing however.

Boiiii!!! The 5th gen console was able to make Jimmy's lab, and a lab on a satellite lol, I think this game was before its time with lab ideas
I grew up with this game, yeah it certainly isn't the best licensed video game but I actually really liked it. I do understand where you are coming from though.

Nobody talking about the booty call joke in reference to Dexter being in Deedee's room? I don't think they're implying anything on purpose, but a lewd pun prob wasn't the best idea for the title considering 🤣
