@@movienightwithjacqui I have to disagree. Even tho old Jamie was an ego monster, he still had that side to him that was giving (thinking how good he was when he signed ted's son's jersey). He might not have dealt with Roy and the coaches on a mature level, but with his past/ family issues, I would like to think he'd be supportive. (But he would have made inappropriate comments but not in a shunning way, in a dumb himbo way and Keeley would've popped him in the mouth and Roy would smile)

The writers do nothing by accident. It was brilliant choosing the Richmond opponents to be Brighton and Hove Albion today. It was not by accident at all. Brighton the city, and its people is known for its openness and inclusivity, and has a large gay population as a result. Lovely choice by the writers to recognize that fact as well. Incredible writing.

I got so excited when Roy did the Lasso story-telling as part of a lesson. It shows just how much Roy has grown since season 1. But what got me emotional was when Isaac and Collin made up. I literally turned to my mom and asked,
“You remember how Collin and Isaac used to be Jamie’s thugs? Collin was who Roy head butted in season 1.”

10:48 You can see Jade turn to stone even as Rupert is talking. It's the same expression she had whenever Nate was 'playing it cool'. I'm betting Rupert took him out with models purely to see how 'malleable' Nate was at that point. Like a loyalty test for Darth Vader. To say nothing of the fact that if Nate had stayed, Rupert would own him. Total blackmail material.
12:43 When Jack was officially gone, Keeley immediately said: "Feel free to say anything you don't like about her." Rebecca's roar wasn't for Keeley, it as for Roy. She couldn't say anything while Keeley had a relationship, but now that Jack's out of the picture, she's free to give Roy the 'Sour Yell'. She's been saving it up for more than half a season; and the second he put a foot wrong on a 'work matter', she went for it.
26:30 In S1, she had to lever that kind of talk out of him using Phoebe as a crowbar. Now he's done it in front of the Press. The first thing Ted said of Roy in S1: "If he hates me now, imagine how he's gonna feel when we've won him over." And in S3: Roy: "I hate what you've done to me."

The up-tempo ("Hollywood") orchestral music you noticed at the start was the title song from the musical La Cage aux Folles, about a son learning to be proud of his 2 gay dads (it's the source of the movie The Birdcage, if you know that). Obviously that's also the source of the episode's title. And the vocal under the closing credits is the song from the same musical, "I Am What I Am."

34:56 - Regarding Zara, Shandy and Jack in the very last episode when Ted is at the airport buying a newspaper all three are mentioned in the background of other magazines (not the one Ted picks/buys). Zava joined a football/soccer team in the states, Shandy’s app became successful *gross* and something is mentioned about Jack’s wealth. So it seems like the writers wanted everything to get some sort of wrap up, even if its just as an Easter egg in the background.

One thing about Nate’s storyline I really love, especially with his comparisons to Vader, is that it’s healthy love and affection that is redeeming him. Anakin turned to the Dark Side because his love became obsession and Nate is letting go of his obsession for love. I just think it’s nice.

I also liked how Rebecca talks to Roy about how he thinks he doesn't deserve anything good. At the beginning of the Amsterdam episode she tells him Keely is going somewhere that thinks they deserve her. It's all about Roy not thinking he deserves her and that's why he broke up with her. He needs to take his own advise and deal with the things that he's really mad at because he has already messed up what's good in his life.

I'm glad most peoples assumption was proven true here and Isaac was just upset his friend had lied to him. Something I liked that I think a lot of people missed is that when Isaac looses it on that fan, he's standing right next to Colin when the fan calls them that slur. Isaac very clearly says "What did you say to ME!" Besides being pissed about the ignorant comment in general, I think him pretending to think it was directed just at him was his own way of trying to cover for Colin and help him keep his secret.

I fnd it very interesting that in the last episode Roy said "I hate what you've done to me!" following him telling a "ted-type" joke. In this episode, he tells a very "Ted-like" parable to explain Isaac's attack on the fan. Roy is turning into Ted, and if we are correct in Ted going back to Michelle and the US, and I'm sure Beard would go with him, Roy could become the Lasso character for a "spin-off" with the likelihood of Nate being a coach with Richmond. Jade has become a redeeming force for Nate. The look on her face meeting Rupert was quite telling, she sees through him, and she mentions his wealthy attitude, and said "nice-like" in describing him. Nate's reaction to Rupert's attempt to corrupt him and have him cheat on Jade was priceless ... not saying a word, just clinging to Jade with deep affection. He finally has what he has wanted and needed in life and he values it. I've been holding on waiting for your reaction, I'm never okay until it drops, so thanks for a quick one!! You read the writer's minds so well as you watch. Rebecca was epic in this episode, and set up the return of Roy and Keeley ... planting the seed in Roy's brain as he earlier did for her with the guy she was dating. The brilliance of the writing is the continual call-backs, clear back to the beginning of the series, and many of them go unnoticed, because they are subtle. I saw an interview with Jason and Rich Eisen, and I feel the show will continue, but I don't know in what form. Whether Roy takes the Ted role, or Michelle moves to London, or they split ... so many ways, but Jason said they won't do it unless they have a storyline reason for it. He says it will be considered and discussed. I knew all along the Isaac and Colin situation would be what it turned out to be, but it was done well. Nothing was better than Roy telling the story at the press conference, although Rebeca's meltdown was close. The look on Keeley's face at the end of that story was brilliant, but easily missed because Hannah completely ate the scene with her incredible acting. Thank you, Jacqui, for your brilliance in sharing your emotions and understanding with us ... I appreciate it more than words in any dictionary can describe.

I don't know if you mean that Roy would become the head coach of Richmond and Nate would become his assistant but I really hope that doesn't happen. Realistically, a head coach of an EPL team wouldn't leave and become the assistant coach of another team. Of course, someone doesn't go from being a kit man to an assistant coach to a head coach in less than 2 years so what do I know 🤣🤣

@@bmr209 I wasn't assigning parts, I was indicating that Roy would continue the "Lasso-way." But as you point out, not everything in this show is based on reality. In a comment on the previous episode, I said that I believe that Jason is trying to put his relationship with Olivia Wilde back together in the fictional characters he created. They weren't married, but have two kids, and their relationship is very cordial, as she recommended that he create this series. The writers do what they want, and I trust them. Would Nate be immediately accepted as head coach after he tore the "Believe" sign in half? He's not emotionally stable enough at this point, in my opinion. He's learning that he appreciates happiness over success, but we shall see.

I knew you would love this. This is an extraordinary episode. The A, B and C plots... all of them are great. I liked that the writers were smart enough to leave us wondering about Isaac's motives, but then SHOWED us the reason, through his interaction with the loud fan, rather than simply telling us (although Isaac later also told Colin). Then in the B plot, the show was brave enough to have Roy be clearly wrong, clearly even a bit cowardly, then make up for it later in spectacular fashion. I even loved that REBECCA was the reaction the camera focused on in the press conference rather than Keeley. To me it was smarter to keep the focus off Keeley for a bit, since this was Roy acting on Rebecca's advice. And the Nate plot was very minor, but still very edifying about his changing priorities. They're on a huge roll with the last four eps. Huge.

I don't know if it is some purposeful subtext or just the way he is played and the fact that a lot of queer people resonate with his character (one example, the soft and tough part with his dad), but yeah. The fanon bi Jamie trope is a big one in the Ted Lasso fandom and his support of Colin the minute he came out were one of the most compelling to me, both his "We got you" bit in the locker room and their hug at the end of the game later.

Although he initially went about it the wrong way by completely avoiding Colin, eventually Isaac handled it great. By asking "what is it about about me that made you think you couldn't tell me?" was a great way to help alleviate any blame Colin may feel in a very important situation in their relationship. Sure, we all saw who he was way back at the gala, but this season he just turns it up so much that you're just wondering what he's gonna say next and how the resulting hate levels will be topped. (For me personally, his high [low?] point was when he told Rebecca he's just like any man and gets "tired of the same ol' same ol'." I mean, OUCH!) One thing I will point out that I found clever was the “ash hole” in the stands was still wearing the Dubai Air version of the uniform (or whatever they are called I don’t speak sports) which I think tells you everything you need to know about that character.
Also I keep seeing reactors saying that this is the final season, that has not been officially announced yet. It might be the last because in interviews from previous seasons (not this one though) they said they had a three season plan but they have been silent on that all season long, they always say “it’s up to Jason”. And if it truly was the final season Apple would want to advertise it as a final season for promotional stuff. Again it may be the final season but I wouldn’t call it that until it’s announced.
My crazy hope is that it ends with Henry coming to live with Ted in London and the final shot is the final shot from Monsters Inc with a close up on Teds face at the airport and the voice of Henry saying “Dad” and Ted smiling.
I have gotten pushback when I post this (probably rightfully so🤣) but they keep showing Henry struggling with Michelle in Kansas, and they vilified Michelle (imo) with the introduction of Dr.Frickface (and Henry doesn’t seem to like him). There is nothing left in Kansas for Ted except his son and a barbecue restaurant, he built a family in London. I am sure I am wrong, but that’s what I want.
Love the videos, sorry for the long post.👍

It's the last season for the next couple of years in any case, so if it ever comes back, it will take some time -- as per Brendan Hunt talking to Digital Spy back in April.
I don't know about Henry moving but I agree that it would seem half-assed if they end it with Ted simply going back to the USA and having to build a new life yet again. The best outcome I could come up with on that end is if he gets called to coach the NT, men or (it would be a great twist) women, and treats it as both a new challenge as well as being closer to Henry.

My greatest fear is that he goes back to Michelle. I don't even super ship him with Rebecca, although it is obvious they always hinted at them since season 1 and have been quite a bit in season 3, and if it's not her, he will probably go back to Michelle (I would dig for him to be alone too, but still in England, with his new "family"). Also, when she tells him about Sam, Ted had said "same time last year, you dropped another truth bomb on me" and she says "see you next year". I think the big conundrum for Ted will come next episode, because the "truth episode" was 2x11. If they go Ted/Rebecca, it will be something about them (maybe Ted says he will go home and she realizes something and asks him to stay?), if they don't, I don't really know what could be for HER to tell Ted (unless she is selling the club? I saw that billionaire dude will be back, but also please don't sell to that awful guy, cmon). I agree, Henry coming to England would be amazing! We don't know Michelle's life, if she has something that she needs to be in the US for, but Henry seems to be playing football now, so him coming to England to train more seriously and eventually playing for real could be a nice route. If they reignite Ted and Michelle, it's just- I don't hate her, but they are clearly done, she was awful with ambushing him in therapy with a biased therapist, and later dating the guy and introducing him to Henry without telling Ted, the pressing for the divorce papers, how they hinted she guilted him into giving her space to the point he took a job in England, sacrificing his time with Henry. So yeah, even if he goes back, he will be miserable. He will lose everything again, and have only Henry (Michelle and him won't last, she clearly fell out of love and if she wants him back, who is to say that won't happen again when she feels suffocated?) and possibly Beard if he follows, but Beard also seems to enjoy life in England. So yeah, I love the idea of Roy stepping up to be the new Ted, but also I don't want a miserable ending for Ted.
And I don't want Nate back on the team either, even if I'm rooting for his redemption. He burned the bridges there, he harassed Will, he outed Ted's mental health problems. Forgive, but do not forget, he was very unprofessional.

Why this long-winded preamble? Because Jacqui, your reaction videos to Ted Lasso and your perspectives are such a joy to watch, that you should be the official aftershow for Ted Lasso! Your comments and insights are almost always spot on, and I always look forward to your analysis and positive energy! So much so that I now tell anyone starting Ted Lasso to check out your reactions to each episode!
I think I'm going to miss your reaction videos to Ted Lasso as much as the series itself!

11:29 This will go down as one of my favourite scenes of the series...Beard goes Beast Mode! 🤣🤣🤣
13:18 Based upon this joke, I declare Jacqui the "World's Hottest Dad". 😂😛
14:05 Rebecca isn't just the boss, she's THE BOSS. Hannah Waddingham is amazing. ❤
22:17 I love how the vast majority of the football action we see is them having a rough go, and they skip over many of the triumphs entirely. Keeps the underlying Underdog motif palpable.
25:00 And now we have Roy being THE BOSS. Between acting and writing, the talent of Brett Goldstein is truly awe-inspiring. #WGAStrong ✊
26:33 I raise a glass to Nate, making great strides in turning away from The Dark Side. 🥃

Jade can see through Rupert like he's made of glass which Rupert clearly hates because it means Nate is starting to see through him too. Also, Rebecca's power walk when she goes to confront Roy is just full-on Boss Ass Bitch energy.
Was fully expecting Issac to have some kind of interaction with that fan who's been standing up and shouting abuse, but I was expecting something along the lines of the Eric Cantona incident against Crystal Palace in the 90's.
Also, there's a little callback to season 2 - The commentary at the end of the second half of the match is that Colin was an inspiring presence but in season 2 Nate said that Colin doesn't inspire anyone.

She never stopped liking him but the love was going. She sees he’s been working on himself. That smile when she had a zoom call with Ted and he told her that although he wasn’t happy about Dr Jake, he still loved her and their son and they would always be a family unit. I think that is the most important thing to her.

When I don’t think I could respect the writers any more than I already did, I watch another episode or I hear something about them that influences the show in some way, and my respect for them increases.
    1. They censor out the slur, but you still know exactly what the guy said and you see how it impacts the characters who hear it.
    2. A lot of people have made excuses for bad behavior (myself included), but the show makes it clear that the fan wasn’t there to support the team, from his use of the slur to having the DubaiAir logo on his jersey to how the fans around him were visibly relieved to see him escorted out.
    3. At the press conference, Roy is channeling Ted by answering the question with a story, though of course he’s still Roy. It could be a misdirect, but I do think he’ll take over as head coach once Ted moves back to the states.
    4. Not necessarily about the writing, but I loved watching Rebecca walk with a purpose on her way to chastising Roy, I loved the shot of Trent in the locker room after everyone else has left, and I loved how Jade was visibly smitten with Nate and unimpressed by Palpatine in this episode.

Since she stopped trying to get revenge on Rupert and is unencumbered by romantic relationships, she's finally at peace with herself. This is the Rebecca Sassy was talking about. And she is meant to be the owner of the team, and act as a guiding figure to all. I love her, she's just sensational at it.

Issacs' red card rules him out of the next game automatically. The FA would likely extend this for violent conduct. For reference Eric Cantona got a 9 month ban for karate kicking a fan.

  • @Dirkus17
    @Dirkus17 Год назад +1

Assuming they try to keep things realistic (and it still is a TV show, after all) Isaac would get an automatic 3 game ban for his straight red card (yes, I know, but that's literally how it would be described for a sending off for a single offence rather than two yellow cards adding up to a red). But that would be for an "in-game" straight red card. Going into the crowd would likely result in a much longer ban (the last player to do so, with similar provocation, was banned for the remainder of the season and into the start of the following season - a ban calculated in months not games). There may be slight mitigation in that it appears no punches were thrown, but Isaac is unlikely to be playing any time soon, so yeah, Sam is likely to be captain for a while. If we're being realistic......

I do think Sam would be an excellent captain, but most likely, it will be interim. Historically, though, footballers going after fans in the stands don't just get ejected - it is very common for them to get multi-game suspensions so if Isaac misses a couple of games, it would be realistic, though I love seeing him with the team. As a lifelong Chiefs fan, I definitely understand Ted hating to sit with a friend and root for the Broncos. The only thing worse would be if it was the Raiders - but I doubt Ted would be friends with any Raiders fan.

I disagree about Zava, Jack, and Shandy. They all served their purpose I have no desire to see them again. I feel that all three story lines built around them was a teaching moment and the lessons were learned. I think Jade filled a need for Nate that Ted couldn't fill because she is a woman and Nate was uncomfortable and shy around women. I have always seen Nates character arch because I went through similar transitions in my life. Jade may be Nate's first real girl friend and he will learn to believe in himself and upon further reflection realize that Ted was a true friend and mentor and Rupert is smoke and mirrors. And as someone who al appreciates the full spectrum of movies - from good to bad to so bad they are good may I suggest (in no order) Casablanca (1942) - tightest written screenplay I've ever read, Deathtrap (1982) with Christopher Reeve. I saw it in the theater and it had the loudest audience reaction to something that happened (no hints) even more than Darth Vader in "I am your father." Silverado (1985). Great old style western with a lot of stars and a very young Kevin Costner. Since you are a film graduate I'm sure you've studied your share of off the beaten path movies. If you haven't seen it please consider Cube (1997). It is a Canadian film made for almost nothing and has a great cast, incredible set design, and flies under everyone's radar. Also, if you don't like heights, try Fall (2022). Very little CGI was used. Lastly, I mentioned bad films. Rubber (2010) has the best premise to me. From IMDB. "A homicidal car tire, discovering it has destructive psionic power, sets its sights on a desert town once a mysterious woman becomes its obsession." Sounds like a director with a dream.
