I love the way that Nate and the restaurant are basically the same thing. It may not have stylish looking food and it might just be a basic place to eat, but the food is good and comfortable and it aligns with how Nate sees himself. He defends the restaurant because he knows that if you go past the superficial things people dismiss it over initially, you see a good thing and a safe place to be.

I got the impression he only brought Natalia there to impress Jade, which would never have worked anyway. But in doing so, he defended the place for being meaningful to him, which I think was the first time we've seen Nate stand up for his right to just be Nate. The Nate from season 1 would never have done that. He'd have apologized all over himself and done whatever Natalia wanted.

No one’s pointed out: we didn’t get Dr. Wagner’s side of the conversation, and I think Rebecca would have been way more devastated if the call was “you’re completely infertile”
Also, what marked Nathan as a step forward was that he stood firm in who he was and what was important to him. S1 Nate would have apologized profusely and immediately took Anastasia to the most expensive restaurant he could imagine. S2 Nate would have gotten snippy in a way that would have made everyone involved uncomfortable, and likely taken it out on someone he perceives as beneath him. Instead he defended his favourite restaurant, and watched his date walk away, and (based on the passage of time) stayed for a meal anyways. I think that’s what won Jade over, but I’m not sure how I feel about her fully embracing him; I would rather have seen a small gesture like getting his name right

    • @rottensquid
      @rottensquid Год назад

It's a small leap from her seeing that to her deciding to go out with him, but I can just about track the steps in between. After all, he's a regular who's made his interest plain, but hasn't pestered her about it. She's seem him with his family. And now she's seen this authentic side of him, as opposed to the inauthentic Nate that always tried to impress her. Since she was introduced, her defining characteristic has been not being impressed with his attempts at seeming important. In general, I find that being yourself in someone's presence is always the best way to win them over.

I don't think Higgins' contemplating firing Ted is over but he was temporarily reminded of why Ted is so important to the team. As for Nate, not only was he humbled but notice that the version of Nate that got the date was his true goofy, awkward self and not his fake alpha persona.

I love the statement you made about how easy it is to make lbgtq+ representation smooth and natural. It blows me away how often a criticism of lack of representation comes up after the release of a 1st season and then it's suddenly shoehorned in on later seasons of a show. And they expect a pat on the back for the half ass job. But like all their good plot points in this series, all the representation had very purposely placed bread crumbs from the very begining that weren't proudly displayed with attempts to get popularity points but planned with an actual pay off for the audience later.❤

With you all the way, Jacqui ... will never waver! Be strong, be good! There is no way Ted isn't going home at the end of the season, which is why I believe they don't really address a fourth season. The only way "Ted Lasso" continues is with his son and wife moving to the UK. Keeley will get back with Roy, they're both hurting, and Jack is totally rebound and will move on. I was a bit disappointed in Jade not holding her position on "Jason Jelly," but as you said, it only happened after he was humbled and showed it to her. He wasn't trying to be the big man when he asked if she would like to share the baklava with him. I cannot believe they will allow Michelle stay with the doctor ... it's just sooooo wrong, and she's a better person than that. Waiting see see what you think of the strange, and yet, deep episode 6. A lot of revelations and maps a few possible directions, but a lot of hope. BTW - I think the "Shite in Nining Armour" being said was a red herring to distract, but also to confirm Rebeca's following up with the predictions of her mother's psycho ... oops, I meant psychic. Such a strong moment with Ted's speech and the tearing up of the sign. I used to do a sales training speech where I tore up a dollar bill and handed a piece to each person. I would have loved to see Ted hand a piece of the sign to each player and tell them they are the "Believe" ... and he believes in them.

Slightly surprised by most of the reactors I've seen being happy/surprised at Trent's orientation (between reactions to this episode and the following one). I thought that was pretty thoroughly implied in one quick scene in S1 or early S2. I can't remember the specifics but it was at the beginning of a scene where he enters through a doorway while fondly saying goodbye to a "friend". Admittedly it wasn't lingered on but I thought the implication was clear. And thus I wasn't at all worried about him outing anyone in the next episode.

I mean, maybe they don’t want Ted to come off as petty, but I feel something should be said from a ethical and maybe legal standpoint. Because I remember Ted mentioned having a bad experience with therapy when he was married.

That does paint a very suspect picture of Jake, doesn't it? I don't see him lasting long. It also gives one the impression that Michelle is drawn to people who tell her what she wants to hear. Even Ted. Jake seems like a new Ted, who has opinions about what the old Ted did wrong. But he's probably doing all the same things, or worse. And what Michelle probably needs is someone completely unlike Ted, someone who doesn't offer solutions or try to fix her, but can just let her have her feelings.

I thought this episode was about charlatans. There's a throughline through this whole season of everyone looking outside themselves for guidance, for hope and strength, and how some people take advantage of that. Zava positioned himself as the team's north star (syncing up nicely with the joke about no one knowing which way north was). Shandi set herself up as a confident ally for Keeley. And of course, Rupert looms large over Nate even when he's not there. What is Natalia but an extension of Rupert's empty glamour?
But Charlatans never offer anything real. The confidence Zava gave the team quickly vanished. He couldn't help them through their self-doubt, because he wasn't really interested in them, only himself. So he abandoned them when their failures dragged down his glory. Shandi's confidence turned out to be a refusal to ever admit fault, which isn't real confidence at all. Keeley was looking for support, but Shandi was only interested in what Keeley could do for her. And Natalia seemed to symbolize the glory Nate has been chasing since last season. Even her name is a glamorization of his. Wouldn't "Nate and Natalia" would look fabulous in a tabloid headline? But obviously, she had nothing of substance to offer, nor was she interested in his substance.
I think this season has confused people, because its big dramatic turns are so subtle. But this scene was a big dramatic turn for Nate. Some reviewers have said his arc seems to be missing beats, and that may be true. But this beat was as deep as it was soft.
Also, I gotta say, I laughed out loud when you superimposed the scene from Zoolander over Natalia running off with her little supermodel crew. I realize now that's exactly what the scene reminded me of. Nicely done.

These videos are great. It’s nice to see how great the community for TL is. I disagree with the idea that Ted needs to go back to America at the end of the show though.
I really don’t like Ted’s Ex wife this season. She has been making selfish decisions when it comes to Henry and has been a really bad co-parent. The show has an amazing potential to show the difficulties Father’s have with divorce and custody. What if Ted fights to have Henry move to England at the end of the season instead? Not only will it let Ted continue to coach a profesional team, but also allow the potential for Marlboro Man to get with Sassy. Am I the only one wishing for this pairing?

Absolutely. I don't think Ted has a future in Kansas. He's building something important in London. I'd like to see Michelle decide to move away from her home town too. Not for Ted, but for herself, for a change, and for Henry.
I think Ted's panic attacks are about losing control of his life, the way his father did. But I think the solution isn't to regain control. It's to let go, and go with the flow.

Jacqui, first off, hang in there! Meanwhile, I love this show too, but this episode really worried me. Still wonderful, but some really problematic subtext:
That Ted's son bullied someone is great from a story standpoint, but the show candy-coating it feels false to me. Shouldn't Ted have talked to him about the actual incident? Instead it's all fine, onward.
Meanwhile, Ted is barely shown coaching -- we saw more effort from Ted to actually coach in season 1, and Ted barely knew what soccer was at that point.
Keeley/Jack -- I love the confirmation Keeley is bi, but once again the show is all about inappropriate work relationships/dynamics. Jack is Keeley's BOSS, who owns her company! In this very episode we saw Keeley go white as a sheet when Jack fake-fired her. So there is just no way for Keeley and Jack to have a relationship that is remotely equal. At least with Rebecca/Sam there was a huge divide between their jobs and both of them were so honorable there was no way they would cross lines. But we don't know that about Jack yet.
Then we get the weird scene with Nate at Taste of Athens, I do not see it as a win that Jade the Icy Hostess sat down to share his meal, since she's been a cold, unnecessarily cruel bully to Nate ever since we first met her. So I don't want them to get together, and hate the message behind it. I am glad to see Nathan still has the visible remnants of a soul, at least.
I love this show but it's very uneven right now for me -- I feel like this whole gang needs Dr. Sharon and it needs her bad.

I'm concerned, but it's only happened once, and he was sorry that he had done it and apologized. So the response may have seemed mild, but I'm not sure that it warranted a nuclear response AT THIS POINT. Now, if it happens again, that's a whole other matter. It absolutely needs to be addressed differently differently.

ok so did you happen to notice the scarf on guy Rebecca used to date? when his fiancee said shite in nining armor there was continuity error (or easter egg) during that scene with the scarf. at one point the scarf has TED letters showing, then MAN. rewatch the scene again and see for yourself. I think writers did that deliberately. So that would make Ted the shite in nining armor. maybe?
as far as Rebecca getting a baby, i dont think Rupert & his wife are goin to die and leave her the baby. I mean wouldnt the baby go to Bexs family? why would it go to Rebecca? She's not the godmother but she is of Sassy's child. so more likely Sassy would die.

I admirre the way they treated the LGBTQ storylines this season, because they reflected the reality of the league. Its a big deal. That old-fashioned womanising alpha is still very much the Premier League Footballer persona. I think, and I could be wrong, that there's only one openly gay footballer in the whole league. Now, 20 teams - conservatively 25 players in the senior set-up - it's just statistical nonsense that there'd only be one gay player. Yet, it's still - for the players themselves - such a tough thing to come out. A lot of attitudes are still stuck in a worldview that doesn't reflect the relaity of society. Sadly. It is changing, just slowly.

Should have made the gay characters less cliche. You said it; Trent, the hair and the strut, and Colin physically small, boyish. Better if Issac had been gay, or someone less obvious. Both guys who were gay are cliches. Enjoyed your eruditions Jacqui!

"just have fun"? This is a professional football club, not a kindergarten. You can't rely on positive thinking and doing nothing. Players aren't here to just have fun, they're h ere to train, learn and win. idc how nice of a guy Ted is, right now he's a horrible manager. The club needs a professional, who understands the sport, the tactics... trains the players the way they need. But he puts 0 effort into making this team better.
