To answer your question Rick " If this is a pilgrimage, once a year.....?"
Well, Sikhi (mis-called as Sikhism) doesnt follow that and consider it a superstition or kind of Binding the faith. Its all about freedom. Eg. If i feel to go today, i just can go any time. But yes, there are special occasions, or days (Gurupurab = Guru (teacher) + Purab (day)) whn people go to Gurudwara (Guru's Dwaar(door)). Its like, you can go to church anytime, but one should always visit church during Christmas.
And no requirement, Sikhs and people want to visit it but one can go to any Gurudwara and pray and it will be same because every Gurudwara has Sri Guru Granth Sahib which is same everywhere.
Fun Facts (even though there are so many)
    - The foundation stone of this Gurudwara was kept by a Muslim Saint, Sain Miyaan Meer ji
    - It was not always Golden (covered with gold) until Maharaja Ranjeet Singh did SEWA (selfless service) and donated gold to cover the Gurudwara
    - This Gurudwara is not only for SIkhs but has four door always open to welcome people from all directions and all major religions. Representing that everybody is welcomed regardless of Cast, creed, color, gender, sexual orientation, etc.
    - It was designed by Sikh Gurus
    - The architecture itself has many significant messages (like one i told just above)
    - Your pronunciation for Sikh is perfect and it means "the one who learns". Westerners say it SEEKH because phonetically "Sikh" it sounds like "Sick". Just like Korbin thought during the video as if his name was called, it was "Gobind Singh" (the tenth Guru of Sikhs). Korbin Singh phonetically sounds like Gobind Singh..
    - And it was called Golden Temple by English which is incorrect. The actual name is "Hari Mandir" (Hari = God, pronounced as "Hurry" and Mandir = Temple,) or "Darbar Sahib" (Darbar = Hall or court, Holy Court of God)
    - Guru Granth Sahib is compiled in "Ragas". It means, you have to sing it to get the actual mood of the writing.
Since you guys are from theatrical background you will understand it, if a script is just read without any intonation or music. But when you sing and act, it hits the audience as well as the actor in right place and impart the actual emotion.
    - Eating together pushes everybody to follow equality in practical life. Not just words, but one has to sit there and eat with everyone. So the person next to me in langar can be an american actor who earns millions and other person could be an african businessman (just a stupid example)
Add me to your team IDIOTS. Its already 1 million year now.. Are you waiting for me to become YODA?
    Love u Guys

The fact that anybody who comes in gets food and anybody who participates gets to help cook, wash the dishes and also help in serving, it makes me very happy for so many different reasons. And when i did go there, every single time, i had done all of those because it also reminded me of how important it is to give back to such a selfless and important thought that is: you deserve this treatment, no matter who you are. You deserve the food and need not fight for it. You deserve respect and dignity for who you are and you should not be begging for any of that(begging btw, is also kind of taboo or looked down upon as it reduces your morality. And to their selfless service of food and acceptance also compensates for those who have had it takes away by the society)
The people in the temple and those who visit it, omaigawd. Its like they transform or have been that way since associating themselves with the temple it self. I have never heard anybody raising their voice or being mean or seen somebody NOT SMILE because its such a happy emotional and peaceful place.
I cant talk enough about the music, the whole array of musical legacies and beautiful meaning(which rick and korbin, they have english translation for and display it on a set of TVs Which even i needed) what an experience really!

Happy Gurpurab! I am Sikh born and raised in Canada. All Sikhs should visit the golden temple. I’ve been lucky enough to visit India 4 times and each time I have gone to see the Golden temple. Everyone is welcome and it’s become one of the most visited places in India. More people visit the Golden temple than Taj Majal. It’s open everyday, so it doesn’t matter which day you go.
Next time I visit India, I will also visit Kartarpur sahib in Pakistan. I don’t know if you guys have been following the news, but Kartarpur Sahib is an important place for Sikhs that was left in Pakistan during the partition of India. It is only 4 Kilometres from the Indian border. As Sikhs had to leave Pakistan and move to India for the past 73 years we were not able to visit one of our most holiest sites. But yesterday, the Pakistani government opened its doors to Indian sikhs and now Indians can take the Kartarpur Corridor and visit their temple in Pakistan without getting a visa, which is almost impossible. It was a historic day, and hopefully this will lead to peace between the two countries. Seriously I was just so emotional yesterday watching this corridor being opened.

I've heard many instances when people from abroad are visiting India for the first time, they were told by their friends in their respective country who had visited India before them, that "if you find yourself in any difficulty in India, or you have a serious problem in India, just look out for the people in turban, they'll surely help you out".
Also one peculiar thing is also famous for Sikhs in India, they do not consider any job as small or big, they can even do a job which is considered as an odd job in India but they never beg for money, there are no sikh beggars in India, that's the reason for their success, you'll find that majority of Sikhs are economically rich.

I as a Sikh am proud of being one and am so happy that people like yourselves show their appreciation towards it. There is a lot of learning Sikhism has to offer the world, one has to just be openminded and non-judgemental about the way we may look or dress. Sikhism, as you have found out, teaches the values of selfless service to everyone, doing honest work, and remembering the name of god. Anyone and everyone is welcome to visit any Gurdwara in the world, and practice it or just be a part of it regardless of who you are and where you come from. That is the beauty of Sikhism. As a Sikh myself, there is no requirement to visit the golden temple but if you’re going to India the option to go is always on the table.
I live in California and whenever we’ve gone to Punjab and we have time, we pay a visit to the temple. It would come to no surprise that the place is packed so recently we’ve skipped it in our trip.
A big reason why the 10th Guru passed on his teachings to a book was because a book is incorruptible whereas a person can be swayed.
Sikhism teaches you not to believe in the idea that you need a church or a priest to help you get closer to god. God is in everyone even yourself, so you could pray just as meaningfully on your own home as you can in a temple.
The word Sikh itself has another meaning, which is “to learn” or “disciples” and you’re learning from god how to live your life through the 11th guru.
As an aspiring high school history teacher I’m open to answering any questions you might have on the subject.

    1. the turban, beard and long hair are cause in the past they were warriors and did not cut or shave any hair ever bcause they wanted to look fierce in battle ... imagine a full bearded full haired beast coming at you in the battlefield.
    2. Langar is served in all guridwaras (all sikh temples) around the world. I m a hindu and have been to gurudwaras in australia, they all serve free food for lunch.
    3. You'll never find any sikh begging for food or money, they are a warrior race and they all prefer to work themselves n earn a living.
    4. Sikhisium is an offshoot of hinduisium I believe and both are totally totally far from islam. They are not muslims at all.
    5. Its their guru ... shri guru nanak ji's birthday tomorrow 12th nov

Golden Temple has the largest community kitchen in the world where thousands of volunteers cook, clean and serve food to hundreds of thousands of people for FREE on a daily basis! This food is provided to everyone who comes in without any discrimination on the basis of religion, gender, cast creed or skin color. Everyone is welcome. If at any time anyone ever finds themselves in need of food or shelter anywhere in the world, look for the nearest Gurudwara. We carry this spirit of seva and love for all in our hearts no matter where we are ♥️ Wahehuru ji ka Khalsa. Waheguru ji ki Fateh.

I have been to India a few times, but unfortunately had the opportunity to go to the Golden Temple once (due to busy schedules and we live about 5-6 hour drive away). But I still remember walking by the Golden Temple (outside, heading to our hotel) and getting a glimpse of the actual Temple. I kid you not, I have never in my life felt more at peace. It is always SO busy, but you feel so at peace. I definitely recommend going there at least once.

Rich and Korbin thank you for sharing your thoughts and the sincerety is coming across just great. It's a shame Sikhs still do not have their rightful and agreed freedom and a country they can call home. I feel an independent Sikh nation will have so much more to bring to the table to help improve our world.

The Taj is a tomb or a mausoleum. You're correct. Korbin Singh. In terms of pilgrimage, the golden temple is not a requirement but a moment one looks forward to. No compulsions what so ever. Proud to be a Sikh! I don't consider myself to be religious, but it does wonders for my spirit. Thats the beauty of Sikhism.

You sound like proud believer who doesn't even know hindu isn't a religion but a geographical location. People who lived around 'sindhu' river were called Hindus by outsiders.
