In medieval times, taverns were a place to socialise much like today’s pubs.

Bars haven't changed much after all these years
No filth on the floor, the beer is brewed elsewhere, no axe murderers
Hasn't changed much, nope lol
maybe you are from a developed country...
People haven't changed much after all these years.
Hard to change perfection.
If it wasn't for bars, reproduction would cease.
I think bars have the opposite effect when it comes to reproduction.
I'm gonna throw this out here, because I think its interesting. In England in the 1600's, with the introduction of coffee and coffee houses, there was actually an attempt by Parliament to outlaw coffee houses, which people were going to instead of taverns. The reason being that when you go to the tavern and start talking politics with your mates, you're going to be drunk and so, when you start chanting 'down with the establishment' its no concern, because that's just what you do after a few flagons of ale, but when you start chanting it in the coffee house, well that's when you should take it seriously. The justification for this attempted banning of coffee houses, was a widespread claim that excessive consumption of coffee caused male impotence, so it was a public health measure.
weldonwin huh. That’s a strange fact... interesting but strange
TrainMaster15 it’s more like they think you are more likely to forget what your chanting about when your drunk , but if you aren’t and chant that you know what your saying.
Simply put, you go to the pub and talk politics, you're drunk and are just going to ramble drunkenly and isn't really that important to the authorities. When you're in a coffee house and start talking politics, you'll be sober and so its rather a concern to the authorities what you are discussing
Or the authorities wanted to hear what drunk people chanted about them, and sober ones were not so eager to do that
Coffee and Tea Houses eventually evolved into Stock and Check Exchanges.
"Food for the hungry, drink for the thirsty. The meals I serve aren't exactly what I'd call a Jarl's feast, but they'll fill you up. I'll show you to your room, right this way."

Fun Fact: the oldest bar in the world is in Ireland. Archeological records show that the walls of Sean's Bar have been around and serving since about 900AD. There's also records of every owner of the pub back to its 10th century founding
That is a fun fact.
👍
We have a bar that is existing for over 400 years.
It's called "The blue hand", due the fact that back in the day workers next to the bar coloring different kinds of textiles.
And after work they propably still had residu of blue dye on their hands when they grabbed a beer in the pub.
Greta Big Story did a video on the oldest bars in the world. They featured Sean’s Bar as well as other bars that claim to be the oldest.
Yeah I seriously doubt it is the "oldest bar in the world". Too many variables, unconfirmed evidence, and human history going back plenty thousands of years before originally thought.
Smells bad
Low quality food
Lots of alcohol
Druken fights and violence
Yep nothing has changed here in England and hope it doesn't changed, its a good laugh when you go down to the pub with your mates
i am against violence because violence is suppose to kill and be use only when necessary.I don't get why you guys treat it like some sort of childhood game. If you ever decide to fight people then aim for their throat. pub fights usually end up with nothing but a few teeth missing, which is unproductive and achieves nothing.
@@yytyytg okay Mr. Party pooper haha
9 out of 10 times, someone gets knocked down and the winner picks the guy/women up, they shake hands and they buy each other a cold pint and every one becomes friends again. If fighting is meant for killing, explain to me boxing, karate, cage fighting ect.

FYI witch iconography is connected with female brewers - the ale broom, the “witch hat” they wore at the market to distinguish them as selling beer, cats to keep away vermin eating the hops and wheat, and even the cauldrons they used. They were the original home brewers.

@1Dudelove r/whoosh
Tavern: a great place to socialize, in which you get an axe to the face for asking someone his name.
False.
Taverns aren't only for drinking or eating, its also where you purchase mercenaries, books, fight beligerent drunkmen (unless you're well known, then they realise their mistake), talk to travellers so you can find your companions, selling prisioners for slavery and paying 1000 dennars to the tavern keeper to give everyone else the food and drinks.

The only quests you'll get at the tavern is to kill 10 wolves in the forest
Slay the Giant at Sleeping Tree Camp
No goblin slaying quests?
BaccaIsMemebob
You get those in the guild.
My village in the East of the U.K. has a population of just over 1000, but around 100 years ago, we had 7 pubs in a mile square 😂
XDDDDDDD
Ale houses were the equivalent of British Off Licences, Off means you drink off premises, taverns are pubs but Inns are pubs that have hotel rooms. You often couldn't drink the water safely in towns and cities but you could safely drink beer so you would drink small beer that only had a small amount of alcohol in the day so people weren't as constantly drunk then as you might think.
Yes thats nice and all, but can you start a brawl on wix.
Uh, no.
Fell Man then what good is it
In my country we had konoba's. Konoba is another name for basement. Houses were built from stone with minimal usage of wood which was reserved for floor planks and wood beams because of deforestation problem which was present in medieval Dalmatia. Some families that had more then one building converted their konoba's into taverns using their basement or what would be more inclined with English and American view their ground level floor to serve food and drinks (mostly vine). Kitchens were separate from main building of your house to lower fire risk and were equipped with fireplace and bread oven. Famous "peka" was prepared here with other type's of baked and grilled meat and fish and different type's of stews. Preserved food like salted meat and fish were served as well with most famous of them "pršut" and "slane srdele" and pickled food as well. Konoba's offered cool environment to shelter yourself from summer heat and nice warm environment to hide from winter cold and "bura". Upper levels were used by the owners family to live in or were rented.
I find these little details about common medieval life absolutely fascinating!
