- I got up to some landscape photography at Durdle Door ont he Jurassic coast today.
Be sure to check out my travel photography on Instagram at @brendanvanson.
Travel photography is often about finding the best locations, and then making them better. Giving them a feeling of awe, and making people want to visit them. The Jurassic Coast in Dorset, England is starting to get a lot of publicity lately. And, a lot of the photo locations are starting to get saturated. But, we went out today and tried to improve on some of the most popular photo locations out there.
Landscape photography is kind of all about light. And, it actually didn't look like the light was going to be good all day today. We started in the old harbour of Weymouth here in The Jurassic Coast. We wanted to explore a bit before moving on to Durdle Door. But, it was cloudy, and a bit rainy. But, it was still beautiful.
The photography light got better, though as the day went on. And, we went photo location scouting in Portland, and then also made a stop at Lulworth Cove on the way to Durdle Door. Finally, we made our way to the famous landscape photography location right before sunset.
Durdle Door is amazing. It really is a worthy landscape photography location. And, the views aren't just great to the door, but they are actually amazing in all directions. You really can look any direction from the viewpoint and find killer shots to make.
Landscape photography at Durdle Door is pretty easy. It's one of those locations that's easy to shoot. And, the light ended up being amazing for us too. But, I think with any sort of landscape photography it's easy to fall into the trap of shooting the same composition over and over again. So, I was conscious not to do that.
Instead, I used a telephoto lens for a lot of my landscape photography at Durdle Door. Doing so allowed me to pick off some of the really cool details in the coast.
In the end, the light was amazing.
It led to my favourite photo of 2017 so far. I just love how it all came together.
Tomorrow, on the travel photography channel I have another landscape photography vlog from here on The Jurassic Coast as I head to Pundit Rock.
Your enthusiasm is infectious, can't help but watch your vlogs with a smile... Another job well done...
Awesome shot - fantastic sky
OO Ya Great Shot and Great Spot
When I used to shoot at Durdle Door I'd leave one one camera with a 24mm lens doing a long exposure (3-5 minutes sometimes) on the tripod, and while it was doing that I'd pick up a second camera with a 70-200mm lens and look for tighter handheld compositions. Durdle Door is a must, even though it's been "shot to death".
Stunning images from a stunning section of the UK coast.
Luv ❤️ Lulworth Cove & Durdle Door,...very special places indeed.
Was there for few days break last month(seems like a lifetime ago now, sadly) & the evening sky over Stair Hole, on the Fri before heading back to Cambridge next day, was absolutely stunning, & reflected back 'mirror-like' in a perfect glass-calm sea. A beautiful final send-off.
But is it ..." Absolutely Stuuuning "!
Good episode. Thanks for your inspiration.
Beautiful image and a great video. Thanks for sharing

Loved Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door when we visited in May :-)
Wow! Love the vlog Brendan. I visited Dorset in July but was a bit further along the Jurassic Coast. It's so stunning, amazing coastline :) And Lulworth Cove & Durdle Door are on my list when I get chance to visit again. Your images are really special , so pleased you're thrilled with them too :)
Always love your enthusiasm, if you ever come to Cambridge I'd love to meet up and shoot with you.
The other side of Durdle Dor is called Manowar Bay. Also very good are Kimmeridge Bay, Dancing Ledge, Chapman's Pool, Stair Hole, Old Harry Rocks and loads of others - too many to mention.
