Hmmm weird. I'm in Hawaii and 3 of my avo trees are in the 40 ft high range, all 3 are different varieties but their so tall I don't have the set up to pick them easily. I've found that they get loaded with fruit and then drop them slowly 1 or 2 at a time, I'll go do a walk around in the morning and collect avos off the ground. They are still hard but do ripen in about 4-5 days, none of them have ever had roots growing and they have always tasted good. Trust me I've brought big bowls of guacamole places with those avos and the bowl never lasts long. I think the main thing that caused that avo to taste so bad is the rooting seed.
ruclips.net/video/uJhhWu_yzek/видео.html something amazing about God/nature doing the work for us. Also the environment here looks better than many others.
My guess is once it sprouts the fruit needs to protect the seed germinate and it releases something to make it taste nasty to keep anything from eating it.
I cant wait till August when the monstera fruit is ready. Please have some for sale,I’m so anxious to try some. Thanks Tom for the fantastic lessons and videos of your crops,so interesting!
I didn't know seeds can germinate like this in fruits, let alone avocados! It's weird watching you eat an avocado and then being absolutely disappointed. But sometimes, you have to pick certain fruit at the right time.
I want to say thank for all the great knowledge you provide. My wife and I moved ton the Philippines 3 years ago. Recently I have planted 20 trees, native and Hass (US via Mexico). I come back to the U.S. every summer for work. The size of the the varieties that you have are MASSIVE.😜.. Am I insane to try and grow them here? Order when I’m back in the US and return with the seeds?
Life in the 'Bog, you will be able to grow these varieties in Philippines but not from seed. My recommendation is to find a nursery over there that have trees of varieties like these. There are a lot of different types of avocado and I know there are options over there. Mango too.
Love these videos Mr Tom. I think it could be that the Catalina is pure west Indian. Maybe just the Guatemalan type could be left to hang a bit longer?
I don't think any of them are gonna last 6 months like this one and still taste good. I don't know if it's because of the heat but I find my early varieties have a shorter life on the tree while my lates can to 3 months or even a little more.
You are by far the best channel and avocado farmer I’ve seen. Awesome content. Is there a way to contact you for some advice on my avocado journey?.I have two seeds that are in water now and they seemed to have sprouted. I have taken photos to show you.
When I came here to the states to live I couldn't believe grocery stores would take the bananas that had browning on them and put them in boxes under the stand . I asked the worker why? She said because people won't buy them. they think they re rotten. I couldn't believe people actually DON"T KNOW ....That is when its READY TO EAT!! when its completely yellow its not ripe all the way. So in short people in the USA have gotten use to eating half ripen fruits and vegetables so this doesn't surprise me that people don't know how to eat Avocado.
Thank you very much for your advice. I took your advice and now l get perfectly ripe avocados. So l thank you very much bro. Take care ok. Happy New Year to you bro
You know what I don’t see you planting or maybe I missed it is those loooong neck avocados. Do you have some? I don’t know their name. I wish I could buy one of those trees
That's the problem with American avocado production. You guys do not harvest until the time is right. Then you leave it on the tree for too long. With my store bought fruit, I'll never have the problem of a fruit with a sprouted seed. Because avocado growers in Peru, are only paid pennies on the dollar. They are motivated to harvest and ship in volume. They strip the tree, in order to make a meager living. I only get fruit which is picked too early, and rubbery.
How can i obtain a grafted pland from you and the size ls of these avocado is new to me . Where does the original strain derive from or please some insite
It’s not uncommon for avocado trees to drop their leaves. You will probably see new ones taking their place very shortly. I would say keep taking care of your tree and see what happens.
Nice info !!! So Tom ended up not being able to have time to graft my cuttings that were stem soaked in water I’m hoping they will take and not be dried out what do you think? They were still pretty green on the inside and nice white flesh on the inside of the part from the graft cuttings some slight browning I noticed where the buds were on the inside where the new bud was 🤞🏻next time I hope to Make the time to graft immediately but something came up! Sorry for so much info just curious what you think the success will be since it was the next day when the grafting took place. Thx again tom your input is always helpful.
I hate when my mouth is watering for a great flavor then you take a bite and get the let down of your life. Even worse if it's gross.. ughk! Have a great weekend.
I love it! That's a Lula. Although the seed isn't as big as I expected but the shape, the scaring, the time of year, and your reaction to the flavor makes me go with Lula. Lula is my favorite variety by the way.
I got so happy when he jovially said ‘lets plant this guy.’ Man you got a great attitude!
I appreciate your kind and encouraging words.

That particular variety is good during the month of August September and October. I did this taste test on January 10 so it was two months too late.

Oh well, I picked my lamb Hass avocado yesterday but I picked 3 in January and it was great.
yum. how many trees do you have?
@@SleepyLizard 1 adult, 3 seedlings, and 2 growing still (not sprouted).
This is one of your best vids.

The Russell. I used to have them but the property owner I leased from demolished his grove
You should have tried another bite 😂
it was so nasty 🤢

Gabriel, I don't sell the trees but if you peruse my channel you'll find a lot of vids that answer your questions
How long does it take simmonds from fruit set to harvest?

@@SleepyLizard thanks for responding.

Yeah, from the outside that Avocado looked perfect didn’t it? By the way, I like your new video today
Yes ..oh thank you Tom
Do you still have avocados? It says out of stock online.
We sold out about three weeks ago unfortunately. Our season runs from July till about mid January.
Great video in the name of science !
Thanks Wayne
Tom!!!! I know you love avocados. 😂But seriously, consider taking smaller bites of sketchy. Ha!!! 💞 and have some water nearby.
I certainly learned my lesson
Question please. My Duarte Avocado is loosing its leaves here in zone 9b Arizona. I have the fertilizer you recommended. Any advice? Love you channel.

We usually keep them damp and refrigerated, so not soaking, but maybe in a bag with some damp, paper towels, or damp moss in the fridge
@@SleepyLizard thx again good to know
what's the name of that big avocado
The one I ate was a Catalina. I also had Monroe, Choquette, and Hall. The Choquette would have been the biggest one.

How much do l have to pay if l am from Malaysia?
Sorry princess. I can’t ship international

catalina is good??
Catalina is delicious. It just happened that I found that one on the tree 90 days too late. It's one of the most popular varieties here in Florida.
@@SleepyLizard how good is it with donnie?...
@@krisnagandhasha6759 it depends what you like. The Donnie is very mild. whereas the Hall and Monroe have a stronger flavor.
