My Dad passed away around a month ago now at only 51, and throughout his later years all he could ever talk about was that you HAD to listen to Animal Collective. like no other band mattered, even though he was a die hard Beach Boys Fanatic for almost 2 decades, this song made him go down the rabbit hole of every remix, remaster, and independent artist's music from the collectives music coming to modern day 2024. He described this track as the perfect pop song, and honestly I cant disagree with him. and for me being only 16 I think my big man put me on some pretty good shit when it comes to music, seeing how he blasted Merriweather everywhere we went as soon as I came out the womb . he used to see them live at least 5 times and finally got to take me at my birthday shortly before he was sent to the hospital. best concert of my life still to this day. To many more listens and tears shed to a song that has aged like wine...love you dad.
Sounds like your Dad had the jams, stay strong my brother.
What a wonderful memory. Your dad sounds like a wonderful man. Dad's have such a great influence in our lives and I know how important music is and how deeply it connects us all. Wish you peace when listening to the jams you and your dad shared ❣️
Sounds like a top fella. Rest Easy .
You're about the age I was when I too, lost my father young (mine was 48), and the memories that come from the music he showed me, flood my life with joy and reminders of him when I hear Zeppelin or the Beatles in public all these years later (28 now). You'll carry that last concert in your heart forever, I'm so glad you had that experience with him. I wish all the time I could have exposed my dad to the more artistic music I got into as I got older- I put him on alot of nu-metal and emo while he wea here 😂.
Your comment has me reminiscing ❤ your dad will always be with you in the songs and memories you carry.
On your fathers grave.....❣
15 years have gone by and I have never heard ANYTHING like this before or again. I feel like I’m more impressed by it now. It’s so unique.
Accurate. I'm more floored by this song today than when i first heard it 15 years ago. Expert artists
I used to listen to this song while dreaming of my future family. Currently married, carrying our first child and this song is so nostalgic.

I still remember the first time i heard this song. My gf was dumping me, first gf, after 5 years. It created something new in me! Something positive and full of hope. That's what it brings me even now, positivity and hope
So how’s life now?
No other ways to describe this song other than "soft" and "sweet". It feels like my soul's being coated in sugar when I listen to this; it's so simple, angelic, and hopeful. God, even *my* depressed ass can't be sad listening to this :')
I know more words: awesome, never able to forget, etc
soft and sweeeet
let me hold it close and keep it here with meeee
Describing 4chan song with words from the 4chan album. Very funny
yeah it's like a sea shanty with the vocals, and the electronics aren't too abrassive. the repeating arpeggio is pretty comforting.
This isn't Neutral Milk Hotel. Soft and sweet belong to them
One of the best songs ever made. Doesn't sound like that "2009" sound. Truly timeless.
I think it sounds like '09 since music was more than one thing back then & was nothing like nowadays.
It sounds like straight up 2009

I heard this song when it first came out and I was obsessed, then over time I forgot the name of the song, but I always remembered the melody and spent the last 10 years trying to remember the name of the song or the group so I could hear this masterpiece again. Today, after 10 years, I finally found this song again 😫 thank you Universe!

Probably going to be very relevant soon as this recession continues...

I just heard it for the first time today. Same.
I just listened to it and I am completely underwhelmed. How can this make any impression on anyone? It's incredibly boring!
I remember exactly where I was when I first heard this song. I wish I could hear it again for the first time, because I instantly knew how special it was going to be to me. I looked up the meaning to the lyrics shortly after, and it made it even better. I’m only sixteen now, but I hope that if I have any sort of family one day this song and it’s meaning will continue to resonate with me.

Oh, My brother, my dear brother, he left this world yesterday & this was his favourite song. Still remember when you were 14, I was 10 and you showed me this song. I was fascinated! You took me down the Rock N 'Roll path and thanks to you I developed my own musical tastes. Today, I discover that you left this world of your own free will, taking an overdose of pills until you were sound asleep. Dear brother, when I found out about that, coming to listen to this song was the only thing that occurred to me at the time, and here I am! listening to this song at 3 in the morning, while singing loudly and enjoying the music as if you are still with me to listen to it together. Brother, when you first showed me this song, you told me that we all had this song hidden within us, but we weren't brave enough to show them to everyone. Now I understand it and I am sorry I understood it too late. I love you, brother, and I will always love you. Thank you for showing me these musical wonders. I will miss you today, tomorrow and always. This song will always be a part of us, dear brother.
RIP your bro had incredible taste my man. he's physically not here anymore, but he will forever live on through you. we love you man.
I lost a brother not too long ago and I feel you man, Animal Collective has definitely helped me this year. A breath of new life, whilst dealing with struggle.
I’m sorry for your loss 💜 I lost my brother two years ago, the pain of losing a sibling so young stays with you but so does the love and memory of who you lost. They’re still with us in spirit cheering us on.
I’m sorry. I hope you’ve made peace with the grief, as difficult as it is. 🖤

This song reminds me of my mom. I showed her this video one day, and explained the lyrics, and how that that's how I was feeling. She said, "You are such a deep person". I've never felt so appreciated by someone in my life.

this song always takes me back to my junior year in high school. a friend of mine let me listen to this song in class and I loved it so much, as soon as I got home I looked it up and had it on repeat for about an hour. I bought this record back in 09, from the hype. Didn't love it, but always loved this song.
