So... Strawberry Jam was just getting released in 2007 and they were on the tour for that album, which most people still hadn't heard, and then they were like "and we have a few new songs for you" and debuted several songs including this one from MPP. Nobody even knew they had so quickly written a new album so soon after Strawberry Jam. I remember going to that show so excited to hear the Strawberry Jam new songs and then they just started playing even more brand new songs like this that melted my mind. One of the best concert moments of my life.

For a long time, I was thinking it's a simply happy, primitive and psychedelic song, because I'm not very good at listening to English lyrics.
But recently I noticed that it was meant to cheer up his brother. Coincidentally, my close friend is also going through a hard time in his life.
And just now, listening to this song, it really brought tears.
Instead of a boring preachy message, he made the music about energy of life and emotion itself, and how to amplify it.
I didn't even know that something like "WAAAAA!" was his brother's name, for 10 years. I'm laughing while crying

This song is about the lead singer Noah, trying to reach out to his brother after their father's death from brain cancer. The chorus is written as "brother sport" but is sung as "support your brother", which is the jist of the song. His brother became emotionally catatonic after the death and he's asking him to reach out and express himself

Being ABOUT drugs is not the same as being inspired by....
psychedelic experiences open us up to human experiences. They're not drug experiences. They're just experiences.

    • @RudeBoy-hx1fn
      @RudeBoy-hx1fn 9 лет назад +25

      *****
You don't need to ingest psychedelic drugs to get to a more perceptive, self-reflective state. In fact, psychedelics are a relatively poor method of staying in those states or having being in those states last as habit in your non-tripping life. Meditation, mindfulness, all sorts of practices lead to the introspection you have described as psychedelic. Just with more clarity and longevity than if you were tripping.
I think of psychedelic experiences as intense experiences. Because unless I'm on a very weak dose, when I trip everything just kind of melts away into colors and forms and fantastic imagery and situations. When I'm coming down or when I've taken low doses is the only times those attentive states of mind come around, otherwise I'm too far gone.
Therefore I think it is a more accurate descriptor to describe reflective human experiences simply as human experiences, and over-the-top intensity experiences as psychedelic experiences rather than blurring the two.

This is a song from Noah to his brother. It seems his brother took their father's death pretty brutally and this song is supposed to let him know that he's got to talk about it and that things are okay. "I know it sucks that daddy's done, but try to think about what YOU want.", "You have his way and what he said to help you shape the way you play. You've got to get rid of the more conservative habits of your mind." Just yet another song from one brother to another. (check out his song Bros off of Person Pitch, another song to/for his brother)

Apparently “Matt” is the brother of the guy who is singing in this song.
He’s singing to his brother Matt, who is depressed about his father’s death, and blames himself or something, I don’t entirely know.
He’s trying to get him to open up about he feels, and to express it.
You can look up the song meaning of this song in forums on google, from people who explain it better than I can. 😉

@@wertbe1718 well the song's about siblings taking care of each other in the absence of parents, so I presume it's referencing helping to feed a younger brother.

I love they've done this after strawberry jam. While in SJ you can feel the entire pain it means to grow up, the death of loved ones, being full of responsabilities and being unable to find time for yourself, being unable to see the color of the landscapes and more stuff that we all have felt, there it comes brother sport, reminding Us that we are still able to access our inner child, we still have time, we are still creative, and theres still a lot of joy in life.
til' we're fully grown we still got a real good shot
    Thanks anco

Some people are creative naturally no matter if they happen to do drugs or not. Frank Zappa is a perfect example of someone who doesn't do drugs but has an amazing and obscure view of the world and contributes relevant and mind-bending music to the world.

+Zolbek You don't know what you're talking about. Panda and Avey are humble as fuck.
If I had to guess why people hate AnCo it would be the fanbase, or the fact that they are commonly namedropped among pretentious hipsters. Which is weird considering they are probably the most popular band from the underground.
Or maybe people just don't like the music, y'know? Which is fine too

+GoodmorningCaptain Really it looks like most of the hate is coming from /mu/. Over the past half a year they've been talking shit about AnCo and now it's cool to hate on them. They're a fucking brainless hivemind and none of them can have their own opinion about music unless it's what the rest of /mu/ thinks. If you think it's good music, that's all that matters
