- A few years ago someone recounted their experience of Gorilla trekking to me. They told me how life changing and unforgettable it was. Another person told me the exact same story. Eventually, curiosity got the better of me and - I hope my face in this video says it all!
Gorilla trekking is not inexpensive (see my Part 1 video for more details on logistics and costs) but it will leave a long lasting memory in your heart. Treks vary in length according to the gorilla family you are allocated and guides will ensure you’re equal parts safe and equal parts thrilled.
In this video we trek through the jungle of Volcanoes National Park, on the northern border of Rwanda and close to Uganda and The Congo. I hope to show you what you can expect, what you should wear, some of the hiccups we encountered but mostly, the majestic animals that people come from far and wide to see in their natural habitat.
This series aims to show you how to create an itinerary in Rwanda that encompasses the PRIMATE TRIFECTA: we visit Chimpanzees in part 1, Gorillas in part 2 and Golden Monkeys in the upcoming part 3!
Thanks to @mstarling79 for the incredible Insta360 and Canon R5 footage of these magnificent Chimpanzees.

I did the trek last month in Uganda and it was incredible!😊
Thanks! Wow that’s amazing! So great to hear you had a good time in Uganda… I’d love to go there!
what was the name of the company you booked you tour?
Hi! We booked through Africa Adventure Vacations (our agent was Robert). He was simply amazing and made us a bespoke tour, with the various activities we wanted to include. Robert actually called me from head office for the first discussion and then was super quick to respond to our email questions. Would highly recommend!
May I ask which your travel agent planned your trip? Or are most of the travel agency the same?
Hi! We often book our own trips but for this one, we booked through Africa Adventure Vacations (our agent was Robert). He helped to customise our trip for everything we wanted to fit in. We started with the number of days we had possible, and then adjusted what we could do each day from there. I wasn't quite sure which online company to go with (didn't have any prior recommendations) but AAV were incredible and very quick to respond via email (or phone if that is the customer's preference). Hope this helps!
