As an India, I feel really bad that you folks are treated that in India especially women but as an Indian please I truly believe that people who have bad experiences often encounter in Delhi, Agra and Jaipur are due to native people there know that foreign tourist come there and they are vulnerable but please do understand that those are just a fraction of people like them like really few people, they don't stare cuz they hate you or they are sexually attracted but its just because most of Indians have never seen a foreigner in their life but trust me our people are really kind nad generous if you get to meet right people(most of us are actually)😔😔

Finally someone who is showing five star experiences!!! Most of the videos in India are done for clicks so they tend to go to the worst and dirtiest areas were they can experience Havoc to create shock value videos. They also stay in the worst hotels. Let's talk about the first world like United States and let's be honest... Imagine if a person from Japan said let me plan my trip to United States and I want to stay on the cheapest hotel or in a low end area... What do you think they're going to see? They are going to see poop, trash everywhere on the street, needles and rows and rows of homeless drug addicts!
Imagine on a big country like United States they decide to stay in a city like Detroit!
I have always wondered if India has clean places and decent hotels because I am not able to find any RUclipsrs actually showing more upscale areas.
I think it's common sense to understand that even in Europe Paris United States and so on if a tourist chooses the cheapest areas to stay they are going to encounter dirt and crime, but there are plenty of neighborhoods that are safe and clean.
Thank you for showing other areas!!!! As a woman I would never think of staying in cheap hotels and low end neighborhoods as a lot of solo women do when they travel.
There is nothing for you to be ashamed of for staying in a five-star hotel!
All the contrary as a woman its the safest option.
    Never apologize.
If I ever travel to India on my own that's exactly what I would do and I wouldn't stay on a five-star hotel one time I would stay in every area in a five-star place and I will also go to five star restaurants.
And if I cannot do that then I will not travel there at all.
Who says I need to experience staying in a dirty hotel to experience Indian culture. Not.

Hi! Thanks so much for your comment. I have been thinking of making a video on 4-5 star accommodation through the places I stayed in India if it would be of help to viewers/potential travellers. Sikkim, NE maybe Meghalaya, Ladakh, Kerala luxury stays incl backwaters, Ladakh, Lakshwadeep Islands are places that are beautiful and unique as well and fewer chances of trouble likely for solo female travelers. I have been to 27 of the 28 States in India and all the 8 Territories and this is my experience. Rajasthan is amazing as well with some amazing forts and palaces and cultural experiences (incl. Kumbalgarh Fort which has the 2nd longest wall after the Great Wall of China) but again you need to do that with a bit of luxury - I mean 5-star hotels, tours booked through the hotel concierge desk etc. then it can be great, Also one should not miss 2 of the biggest monuments of the world that India has - the Statue of Unity (world's biggest statue, double almost in size to Statue of Liberty) located in Gujarat, and the Jatayu bird sculpture at Jatayu Earth Center in Kerela (world's biggest bird statue). Also, one should not miss visiting at least 1/2 of the famous Tiger parks (such as Ranthambore or Pench/Bandhavgarh etc) or the Kaziranga Park in Assam for the one-horned rhinos (which has the largest population of one-horned rhinos in the world).....temples in India are also not same, different as you move from the Southern States to the East to the North, etc...the sculptures and level of details are something to cherish...depends on what you like though!

    Hi Amanda,
India is a developing country with a per capita income of around $3,000. While resources are limited and civic awareness isn't widespread, the vast majority of the 1.4 billion population are kind and welcoming. It's just a small fraction that might leave a bad impression, much like in any other country but Indias population is so hugh its become more in number as per percentage.
Many foreign travelers have negative views and something experiences and share them, which is understandable. They encounter aspects of life here that they might not have experienced before. However, I recommend having a trusted guide during your travels in India. This can transform your trip into an extraordinary experience, offering lessons in humility and humbleness that are unique to this vibrant country.
Life in India is fast-paced, intense, and highly competitive. Yes, there might be instances where you feel overcharged or scammed, but these are part of the learning curve in an ecosystem as dynamic as ours because country is still much poor compare to developed nations.
Remember, India represents 1/6 of humanity. For us to succeed as a human race, India too must prosper economically. A thriving India will naturally become a safer place, and might be travelers like you reducing the need for discussions about safety during travels.
We appreciate you traveling to India despite negative media coverage and many racist comments against india .
I know its difficult to travel in India for Indians then it might be more different for people like you.but appreciate your efforts and kindness despite all odds
May your future journeys around the world be memorable and enjoyable.
    With love from Maharashtra, India,
    May the Universe bless you.

    Bhutan: Phuentsholing, Thimphu and Paro

RBF is an essential life skill for Indian women navigating the urban public space. I have come across shameless creeps and sometimes staring back with RBF helps and at other times you have to call attention to their behaviour to make them go away. I would hate to have to recommend this to guests to my country, but unfortunately sometimes you just need to know that firmly refusing unwanted attention is important.

This is the first video I have seen of a Western female solo traveler, who did the right things on her trip to India, instead of just blundering through and having the worst possible experience. First rule for foreigners especially females intending to explore India: Do not do what any average Indian middle class family would not do, especially when travelling with their daughters and wives. Delhi and Agra have the worst rep even among Indians, but they seem to be a tourist magnet due to decades of marketing ignoring the rest of India and the first place solo travellers end up in. Do not skimp on accomodation, Transport and guides. Consult local professionals living there about precautions to take, who and what's safe, check the grapevine, always travel in a group with a local involved. Middle class these days would mean a couple with children working in an IT job of which there are plenty. There are lots of Indian travel bloggers and YT channels who would readily curate trips and help connect with locals. unTravel show for ex. There's some startup idea here that can cater to this segment of solo travellers to give them the best experience. kudos to Amanda for presenting her experiences both pro and con so gracefully.

I have a lot of friends who travel around the world. Most of my female friends and cousins who have traveled around India, especially in Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, and Delhi, shared the same thoughts with me. “Female travelers should never travel solo there under any circumstances.” 💀💀
First, they politely ask you to take pictures even if you say no, they invade your personal space, try to put their arms around you forcefully and that’s when the groping starts. Trust me, help is hard to come by unless you’re incredibly lucky. So, to any female travelers considering a trip to India, please travel in groups with male friends or family for your safety!

    Visit Kerala or Goa!!
Kerala is a high literate state with a good people and having a very strong police department. So scams and crime rates are very less. Last month one Kashmiri shop keeper working in Kerala, refused to give clothes to an Israeli because of he is a Jew tourist. The issue went wrong and jews get full support from other shop owners and local police. The officers immediately took action against them. Now the shop is closed and that Kashmiri lost his job and left to Kashmir😂. The news is available on RUclips!!.

Any westerner coming to India or for that matter any place on earth have to understand this :
Firstly if you stand out and look different people will look at you, doesn't mean having bad stares but just out of curiosity.
Secondly every country has certain areas which are tagged as not so safe and some areas which are considered safe not just for foreigners but also for the locals
Why travel the golden triangle when you have much beautiful places to roam around in India. Visit north, south and north east you will see the real beauty there .

First and foremost Delhi, Agra and Jaipur is the worst plan to start a Indian tour. All the foreign tourists are given a wrong guidance. Delhi is 00000000000.1% of India, so not sure how you guys judge the country with this experience. Please do your homework before coming. I leave in Sweden but honestly my experience of Stockholm cannot define entire Sweden or Scandinavia. India so big and diverse and every tourist wants to land in Delhi. Being an Indian, I myself hate travelling to Delhi. So please tell every friend of yours coming to India to start from South. Plus you are in a country with billions of people, so stop comparing with western countries with hardly any population. Being living outside India in many western countries for 20+ years. India is another world and to understand this country you need to know were to go what to explore. I don’t blame you, but this photo selfie nonsense is also curse on this country with fair skin obsession came in from British, which will take time to go. But it is definitely going away in sometime. Have fun and choose better travel plans to explore. Definitely not Delhi or Agra😂

Hi! Thanks for your comment and thoughts. Unfortunately being one of the 7 Wonders of the World, it makes it highly likely that tourists will visit the Taj Mahal and choose the cultural triangle. Again, unfortunately, I only had 5-6 days to spend in India and given most international flights land in Delhi, it made it a logical place to land and discover. You are right though - I would love to visit again after having satisfied the 'Taj craving' and see more of the wider country of India. Personally I love to discover off the beaten track places, and I would wholeheartedly love to explore India's south. This video was intended to help solo female travellers gain an impression of what could be expected should they choose to visit alone in one of the most visited regions of India. Thanks for an insightful comment 🙏

I completely respect your thought and have nothing against what you said or about the video, just expressed spontaneous. Also 7 wonder and Taj Mahal in it is really not a correct choice from India. Long story but difficult to explain now. this is another outdated marketing which is still prevalent in the western world like others which are floating around, which will be corrected overtime. Anyways I sm not saying India is perfect, no country is , but for better experiences in life while you travel, do consult the right people. If you are okay, share were we can connect and I can share some insight for your future travels to India 🇮🇳

I loved your review but feel like it was somewhat clouded in paranoia? Like most indian guides are just normal people there to run a business and will follow the itinerary setup by you or them. They have no interest in kidnapping, scamming, extortion etc... You didnt encounter anything out of the ordinary in finding a good one tbh. I feel like the guide himself maybe responsible in making you feel this way and lucky to have found him. There are some countries where the economy is foundationally built on tourism where such incidents might occur more often than not but this isnt one of them
Maybe making a genuine local friend before visiting would have made the experience far more smoother and enjoyable

India being unsafe for women is blown out of proportion by western media.. bad incidents happen in other tourist countries and it doesn't get much attention in the news at all!! In India, we take these incidents very strongly therefore foreign media jumps in for profits. Recently, an Indian tourist was shot dead in Thailand but no one cared! There are other crimes towards women in that country and no one cares. The fact that you (& others) were so scared to come here makes me sad and embarrassed. I'm not denying our internal problems.
We also face issues with these travel planners as it can be a hit or miss. Hidden costs are kinda expected. Don't give tip if u don't want, state things clearly in "parent mode" or they won't listen... this is what we do. We faced similar issues on our trip to nepal. Going solo is ofcourse more difficult. More power to you❣

Hi, thanks for taking the time to leave this comment. Tips were very much expected of me (and aggressively so... I didn't feel the option of not tipping would have been tolerated) and I was deliberately not taken to the last location on one of my day trips because the guide knew how much cash I had left and for me to buy an entry ticket would have come out of his tip. Knowing things like the hidden costs and also what tone of voice to speak in isn't necessarily known by all travellers so that's helpful to hear from you. Thanks for your input and advice.

Hi, I'm not sure if you watched this video, but I stayed in 4-5 star accommodation in India. Additionally, I can only assume what you are referring to by 'women of profession' but if you had watched the video you would see I wore long, flowy Indian dresses, in an attempt to respect local culture. If India desires tourism, then visitors are going to seek information before arriving to increase their awareness and safety, especially high risk groups such as single women. Hence the purpose of my video: to enlighten those who intend to travel there.

    Hi Amanda,
India is a developing country with a per capita income of around $3,000.
