Metroid: Zero Mission Video Walkthrough

- This is a video walkthrough / playthrough / runthrough / whatever of the Game Boy Advance game Metroid: Zero Mission. This is a 100% item run on hard that completes the game under 2 hours.
I followed the guide made by superdynamo over at GameFAQs.com. I had quite a bit of practice using this guide (Took a few tries to get all the item locations down into memory) and it does exactly as the guide suggests more or less (I don't bother with saving my game, so I'm able to shave off a few extra minutes).
My tactics for some boss fights could have been better I guess, but I was able to complete it all without too much trouble I suppose.

Thank you for posting. I´m glad it is a walkthrough but almost a speedrun. You don´t waste time and everything is done so you can learn from the video . Super Metroid has no video of this quality (not that i´ve found ), they´re either too slow or skip everything and move along too fast . Beautiful Run .

Simply one of my most favorite games. I've tried this game a few time on an emulator for my computer and failed sooo many times on easy. Basically watching you complete this all on hard IN ONE GO made me feel really stupid. Great video and great job man.
That Mothership section in the Zero suit was nothing short of masterful! I'm now just going on hard mode and I just got past Kraid with no Varia suit because I simply did not know of that sequence break you showed me here...
Jump towards a wall, when you're right there, hold the other directional button. It should look like she's clinging to the side. That's when you jump. It's not that hard to do with a bit of practice.
Finally, a guide that doesn't do sequence breaking (more or less)! :D

That's why as far as bosses and stuff goes, I practice quite a few times so I hopefully know what I'm doing...
Though, if you watch my Double Dragon Advance video, you'll see I get a time over right before the final boss steps through the door....If I had died maybe before then, I might have started over, but I was doing so freaking good all things considered, that I just had to complete the game regardless of that happening...

I had bought this game when it first came out, so I had plenty of practice and knew where things were more or less. I don't know how many attempts were made before recording (and not sure of how many times I had to restart once I did try for a video run), but I know it was a quite a few to make sure I had my route down packed.
Though, I will say after doing my 15% run, I wish I could redo this run, since I learned some better strategies for some bosses (especially the Ridley fight...)

@@SaikyoMog I'd like to say it was probably around 5-6 years ago when I initially stumbled upon his video of his Super Metroid run, and I just got it again yesterday. I remembered reading through multiple comments from him actually replying to others at the time, and knowing he's no longer alive to do so is deeply saddening.
Rest assured he'll be remember by those who needed his guidance through this masterpiece of a game which has brought us all together. Best wishes to you and may he rest in peace.

Practice. A lot of practice. Before I make videos, I practice and practice and practice the game....As for wall jumping, it should be simple enough. Jump towards a wall, and when you reach it, hold the other direction and jump...Pretty sure that's how it goes...

Also Samus: Returns to a surprisingly intact Tourian half an hour later to get an extra Super Missile tank.
The main soundtrack is still strong for the GBA remake.

I love metroid series but I always get frustrated if miss an item. Dam some of them are really hidden. But apart from that I think of it as my favorite series.

Thank you, but it could easily have gone better. I did a 15% run (because you can get a special ending picture) and I use much better boss strategies for some bosses. The Ridley fight for example. It was rather sloppy here, but I use a much better and easier strategy to take him out in my other video. You should watch that some time.

Awesome walkthrough
You're free to explore the entire planet throughout the game's entirety, but it's easier once you have all the abilities. You can play free after you beat the god of war, essentially, the only difference being that bosses don't respawn.

i love the way from 1:49:10 with all your powerups and Samus Aran best suits goes to the end .... :))))) fpr me thats one of the best coolest parts of it ^_^ thats kindof what i like mos from all metroid games since gameboy : that Samus Aran Goes back with all her power ups to the beginning, to reach the end , i love it so much !!!

The thing that gives you the charge beam? From what I understand, if you somehow don't defeat it, you'll run into it again eventually. I have no idea where, since I never had that happen...

Not sure if you're serious or not...But to answer the question anyway...You hold up on the directional button, and then shoot the missile.

Metroid: Zero Mission is cool, but I think it would’ve been better if it was released for the Nintendo 64 in late 1997 or early 1998 to commemorate the first game’s 10th anniversary, or even in December of 2001, even though Yoshio Sakamoto would’ve been reluctant. But I’m sure someone could’ve provided him with a control scheme that works, such as using the control stick to move Samus, A button to jump, B to fire and drop Bombs or Power Bombs in Morph Ball form, control pad for Missiles, Super Missiles, Power Bombs, and Grapple Beam, thus explaining how Samus has it at the beginning of Metroid Prime, the four C buttons for special actions, like Sense-Move, Melee Counter, Over-Blast, and Lethal Strike, the L and R buttons to aim to Samus's left and right respectively, and Z to enter and exit Morph Ball form. In addition, the game would have a more detailed opening sequence:
“Year 20X5 of the Cosmic Calendar.”
“A Galactic Federation research team discovered a mysterious life-form called a “Metroid” on planet SR388.”
“They successfully captured a live specimen, and were bringing it back to Galactic Federation headquarters when Space Pirates, a group of intergalactic criminals and warmongers responsible for disrupting trade routes all throughout the galaxy, attacked their research vessel, stealing the specimen and bringing it to their base on planet Zebes, an ancient Chozo stronghold, where they cloned it through beta-ray exposure. Finally, the game could’ve also given players the ability to move Samus in any direction, and a rotatable map, effectively combining side-scrolling with 3-D exploration, and also had some of the people who made the first game work on it.

Hey I got a question in Brinstar there a secret rooms and/or passages that are not on the map. In one secret passage there is a super missile but the only way to get is by using the speed booster. Now I know how to do the little trick move with the speed booster where u stop and shoot yourself in any direction and I done in the morph ball form too. However, I still can't get to that super missile let me if you have any advice thanks in a million.

You find more missiles. Then, equipment you really need that is a MUST have! In this game!

58:14-58:16 If Zero Mission had been on the Nintendo 64, this would've been a cutscene: Samus walks back across onto the platform, and is just about to reach the other side when the door locks, and at the same time, the door she just came through locks, and the bridges connecting the platform to the exits retract. Then Samus hears Ridley roaring, and looks and points her Arm Cannon in the direction of the noise as Ridley swoops in through an opening in the ceiling.

Is there a way to get a super bomb on the first part of the game at the water part up to the way to get the power grip, because there is a door that is yellow and I needs a super bomb and I cant seem to find it.

1:28:40, how does he shinespark and then stop and hold charge, then start again?
Hey at 52 min u use the speed boost then duck to stop but then how r u starting speed boost again and able to shoot and run through corridors. I've tried sometimes I shoot up and other times I shoot back the opposite direction all the way to the end. I've shot to the left a couple of times but I don't know how I'm doing it and I still cannot use my gun like u do and I just hit the corridor. Almost ready to give up. Got any advice? Thanx
Bobby8451 Hello, if you still want to understand how it works I can explain it to you, its called Shinesparking : You run enough to get your speed boost, then you duck to conserve the speed boost charge, you must drop down to the place where there is a little rising slope, then you release the charge by pressing the A button and input immediatly afterwards the direction where you want to go.
So let's recap, in that example at 52:00 , he ducks to maintain his speedboost, he drops down and jumps next to the slope, he presses A and then quickly pressed left. So when you launch into a slope you continue running and can fire to open doors.You can do neat tricks with the Shinespark, I hope it helped.
Bobby8451 It's real easy it's not that hard all you got to do is use speed booster jump use control pad to go the direction you to. You can also do in morph ball form as well.
Keon Cox I still cannot master it. Everytime I press in the left direction, I always end up flying ALL the way to the left corridor. So frustrating. Ice done beat mother brain and I'm now stuck on another planet or something. Wish me luck here. 😂
Yeah it takes some getting use to. Here's my advice keep practicing like keep running back and forth until you master it. Once you've mastered it let me. Oh yeah good luck with the next level wishing you all the best.

It can run away the second time? I would imagine it would stick around. It's not needed to beat the game (check out my 15% run in the video responses. I don't get it there) Of course, any upgrade is a good upgrade.
For some reason, the super missles won't shoot upwards, but they will forwards and diagonally.

I have this game. I really like it but I got stuck and haven't touched it in years. I thought that this would be like the first and end when you escape the planet right after defeating Motherbrain. I had no Idea that a third to half the game takes place after Motherbrain is defeated. I was a bit surprised when the video kept going.

I try to avoid doing breaks like that. The closest thing I can think of in terms of doing something like that is using the wall jump in Super Metroid to get a few things early...

The trick is to do the speed dash on a ramp. You'll notice I do that in the save room which allows Samus to be able to continue running. It's really quite simple.

I believe you stand below and missile him in the eyes three times. You won't have too many opportunities to do so though, so you need to time your missiles perfect.
you can go back to brinstar after you leave the planet? lol i thought it blew up? wish they would release all 5 metroid games in a collection.

If you mean the wall a bit after that time, you need to run to build up speed and when you're doing the speed dash, you just jump through it.

Well I got past it with a different strategy, but now I'm stuck on the next run. How did you shoot through the block at 54:42? I can't shoot missiles while moving.
At 27:56 in the cave when you shoot the bat coming down from top, I can't get it to freeze, I always destroy it. How did u freeze it?
Just shoot it once. That's all it should take. I'm pretty sure I'm simply doing just that.
The reason it keeps dieing is because you have it on easy mode... Kill the bat, shoot the hidden tank and use morph ball bombs rapidly to bomb your way up to the energy tank...

How do you spin jump continuously?Trying to get missile capacity increase at 19:47 time on walkthrough.
You'll need the Space Jump (Unknown Item #2) and the Fully Powered Suit to continuously spin jump.
Very useful.
At the time 19:08 how did you jump up the walls???. Can't figure it out.
It was difficult but I finally could do it as well. I'm on this part now: 54:04 It's similar but even harder, I cannot handle it yet :(

Being able to wall jump is more or less key...At least in the way I did it. There might be other ways to go about it, but that's what I did... >_>

Been awhile since I played, but I'm pretty sure you just don't activate it till you need to use it. I think you need to hold down the directional button before and while you jump. Just don't do the normal motions you would for the shinespark, and you should be able to travel with it. It's not that hard, just a little practice with it and you'll be able to do it easily enough.
