Sad that it took so long for a sequel... ofc im hyped as fuck but ... even if there will be another metroid games... how long do we have to wait for the next game then? (after Prime 4 i mean) Like they said, Dread will be the end of the original series (1-5) ... so either they will make another timeline or they will continue with Prime! ...
The way Super Metroid handles story with very little cutscenes or dialogue is why it remains my favorite in the series. It tells a very compelling story using almost nothing but a prologue and gameplay. The bossfight with Mother Brain and the Metroid trying to protect Samus especially.
The conclusions in Dread are so amazing, beat the game yesterday and I did not see the twists and reveals coming, I really recommend playing dread for some really awesome gameplay and cutscenes
The ending to Dread ties a fantastic finishing bow on the entire Metroid franchise story while simultaneously giving us a lot of stuff that can be used for sequels. Combined with the dangling sequel hook from Prime 3, the Metroid franchise has potential for a beautiful future.
Honestly I just beat it a cpl days ago, and the ending was amazing. Plot twists and all. Wasnt expecting that either. Wondering how the next metroid prime will wrap up that part of the story. All in all, 10/10 for me in my book.

Adam, I would like to thank you immensely for doing this and doing it right. Metroid is literally the reason why I game since the first game have been around. I mean I was gaming before Metroid on Vic20, Atari, Commodore, PC, Amiga, but really Metroid is what incrusted my whole self into gaming. Not many people can tell the story rightfully but you sure did. Metroid has so much lore also that can still be developed, it's confusing indeed in some places regarding the timeline, I agree, but nonetheless, for the most part, it is fantastic sci-fi gaming and lore .And again, you deserve a zillion thanks for this. Much respect!
Because it only mentions the main ideas of the plot and nothing about their execution lol. That game is still a wreck with some neat visuals and gameplay. Why is Samus, an independent bounty hunter who knows better than literally anybody about her suits capabilities, taking arbitrary orders from a former CO? Especially ones that make no sense. Cooperation, sure. But no authorization to use the ice/plasma beam, the Varia Suit? Get bent. The Deleter thing is a just a wreck. Why does Samus have a PTSD episode over Ridley and not the METROIDS? She has subdued Ridley many times prior without issue, but *could not* bring herself to destroy the infant metroid, which was "supposed" to be the very last one in existence, which saved her life while giving its own to do so after she was already attached to it emotionally. Game bad, end rant.

I get people didn't like the way they portrayed samus's character and how she needed permission to use her abilities, but other than that, the game was great.
Other M deserves a lot of the flack it gets, but in the end it does give us some emotional attachment and understanding to Adam Malkovich. Sure, a lot of plot points are weak/re-used, and that shouldn't be ignored. However, it gave some "humanity" to Samus (if she's even human at all, but you get the point) and her past. Also, a lot of the manga is out of reach or unknown to the wider metroid audience, so I think it's ok to re-hash some of its plot in the games. EDIT: also the fusion story/backstory might have been lost to the newer part of the fan base, so Other M may have helped in that respect, even if it didn't do it the best it could have.
@@angellara7040 normally don't reply to stuff this much later, but here I go. From what I remember of Other M, Adam isn't a kindhearted guy (save for maybe 1 or 2 moments). He doesn't joke around. But his hardness and Samus's hard headed essentially is what made her leave the Federation. Also, when he sacrifices himself, it's for no one but the mission. Yeah, he's not a kind man, but he's not evil. A man of duty, if you will

Yeah, that info about the Chozo creating the Metroids was around for more than a decade before Samus Returns. But I guess a lot of people missed it because - unless I'm misremembering - it's never actually stated in Fusion itself, but in the game's manual. I remember reading that at the time and thinking it was kind of a big twist to just casually throw in there.
@@Megafauna1 That was my first real Metroid experience. I knew about Metroid but had never really played it growing up. Metroid Prime Hunters on the DS was also incredibly good for what it achieved on the DS and the online multiplayer was addictively fun

Even though it is technically its own thing series-wise. It's kind of Metroid 3.5
Metroid Prime hit different. I remember getting through the Meta Ridley boss fight and thinking "Jesus that was hard as f*ck." Then dropping into the hellish Phazon depths and having to fight a shit ton of crazy metroids just to get to the last boss, Metroid Prime. And to this day I think MP is the craziest, most intense boss battle I've ever played on any game. 😓

I never even knew Metroid Prime had a sequel LET ALONE a third game!?
You can play some of them if you have membership, but they definitely should redo the whole series. It would be amazing to play an updated version of this series and have them fleshed out a bit better with the lore.

That probably wont happen because the first game and super is on the switch online, the second game already has a remake, fusion is a little to short to be on its own, the prime games already have a collection on wii, so the best bet is that the prime collection on wii is remade for switch, but a lot of people prefore the wii controls to the stick for metriod prime and the metriod series isnt that popular so it probably wont happen
But in that case it should be, zero Mission, Samus returns 3DS, Super metroid, Fusion. Although i wouldn't mind a Super Metroid remake in the dread engine.
@@brotbrotsen1100 well two of those are already remakes and one that only happen 4 years ago, super is already on the switch online, and fusion is two short for a remake
I mean you can play Super Metroid on switch, and Zero mission + Fusion are both really easy to emulate on PC,
And if we're lucky we might (hopefully) get at least a simple port of the prime games for switch around when Prime 4 is releasing.
@@Martypuppet you've got it all wrong fusion and zero mission are already on wii u nintendo is too busy giving a the love to Mario pokemon and zelda to port them to the switch
Absolutely loving dread so far
19:29 - LOL, I love that you said that. Pure Genius man, you have much applauded for this. Best thing you said in the WHOLE video and the same thing I've ALWAYS wondered about people.
Thanks for this refresher. Can't wait for playing Dread this week!
Okay but why does this recap actually make Other M's story sound pretty badass?
@@cwheels01 a common explanation for the first point is that it is a military operation zone and the GF has jurisdiction while Samus is an indipendent militant. Though none of this is elaborated in the game so it's not really an excuse.
@@MRtecno98 And that is totally fair-- that Samus would cooperate with the GF and even work under their orders (realistically, she could have just turned around and left, but that's not how Samus does things). I don't think I need to elaborate all the other things about it that really DON'T make sense.
Just finishing up Metroid dread right now and it is by far one of my favorites of the series. Very very well done.
Having finished Metroid Dread already.. I know some sh*t is about to go down in Metroid Prime 4
Will prime 4 take place after prime 3 continuing the prime story which takes place between Metroid 1 and 2? Or will it start a whole new story arc that begins after the events of dread
@@mario-xh5eh I am hoping the later
I love Metroid…but regardless of what many will say I LOVE playing Metroid Other M. So much story. Loved it.
Metroid prime 4 should just be about Samus finally getting a vacation
okay thats pretty cool, i didnt know about the secret cutscene at the end of three and never played federation. But now that the trailer for Metroid prime 4 is out, and we actually see Cylex with metroids. The continuity is on point
13:51 he was right about Metroid Prime 4
The Metroid series is an amazing story of games.
If you're a newcomer interested in getting into the story, Zero Mission is a MASTERPIECE of a remake done RIGHT. DEFINITELY start there. Wii U e shop is your best friend for that.
I just beg of everyone, PLEASE support the series and BUY DREAD.
Played a few hours of dread today, SO GOOD!
Looks like those two cameos maybe were foreshadowing Sylux as the villain for metroid prime 4, in case anyone has been theorizing away for years now. lol
15:47 This was learned from the Metroid Manga, not the Chozo Memories
and Metroid Fusions manual
Okay, and?

Metroid Dread is gonna be sweet!
@Aditya I Oh are you gonna shit your pants? ... "Dread" means nothing to me because its a fucking Nintendo Game! ... They dont even know how jump scares works!
Dread is completely different from horror based on jump scares. Metroid has always had dread as a fundamental theme.
This @Aditya I guy started Metroid Primes since only 2 months ago. He doesn't have any experience of 2d Metroids.
If you found him again pretending that he knows everything about Metroid just ignore him.
@Aditya I Maine aapko pehle bhi bola tha , aap bss 2 mahine pehle se aaye hai yhaan !?
Apko prime chahiye to chahiye to shaanti se prime 4 ke liye wait kijiye.

Metroid Dread will be awesome.
Played 5 hours today, is amazing
Dinosaur mother brain killing the baby metrid and glaring into it while it falls is actually pretty funny 😂😂
Ah yes, Metroid Other M. The game where Adam nearly had Samus melt before his very eyes before telling her, "Hey, use your Varia suit so you don't die."
Thanks buddy.
To be fair. In Japanese that was Samus' choice. Adam actually begs her to use it.
@@darnis6497 Definitely. I love Sakamoto but he should have had someone else more suited for the western release take the reigns while he worked on the Japanese release. Probably wouldn't have gotten as much flak as it got.
Bring the three primes back in the meantime. Id like to play those again... On my switch
Dude, great video. Conclusive! Thank you guys (I say guys because I'm, guessing there's more than just you involved) for an amazing video catching me up on the Metroid lore. And this is coming from someone who's played them all except Prime 3.
Really solid timeline wrap up. I've hardly played much metroid (just a little of Metroid 1, and prime), I sank countlesd hours into MPH, both singleplayer and multiplayer. I need to try to get back into this series
Thanks for going over all the Metroid games, this has been super helpful!
Wow. I've only played metroid fusion. Not really known that the franchised was that deeply linked. Wow that's just amazing
Super Metroid is an astonishing achievement for the time it was released it's still amazing to play today , Prime blew me out my slippers when I first seen it live on my GameCube ... Fuckin unbelievable console
This series is so good, do Metal Gear next! It'll be even more bonkers than your Resident Evil timeline!
Very nicely summed up. Most people forget the manga
Thank you so so much for this video!! I needed to catch up on the story to enjoy Metroid dread much better :)
Metroid Prime is still one of my favorite games
13:52 aged like a beautiful wine.
16:12 is just as good.
Planets in the Metroid Universe are made of C4.
Samus is such an awesome badass Bounty hunter that she makes Sarah Conner and Ripley Scott’s look like Rookies.
The only thing I'm wondering is what are they going to call future games. If dread ends the metroid arc, what would be the name of the next arc
They might still call it metroid since that's how it started but that's just my guess.
@@kitsunekid16 After beating the game a few months back, they can still easily call it Metroid going off the ending
@@NotZDH haven't played it yet because my wife wants to watch me play it so I have to wait until she gets off work in the morning(she works night shift) even though it's already downloaded since she also loves the series lol.
@@kitsunekid16 It's cool that your wife is also a fan. Dread is a great game, one of my favorites. It won't disappoint
Conspiracy proposition: you never actually see Adam die in Other M...
you forgot the only important thing in Other M....Anthony! Seriously, can we just get him back somehow, but in a good game this time? Such a great character deserves better than to be relegated to Other M....
I honestly really loved Other M. Anthony, by far, was one of the highlights.
dude i love your voice and the way you narrate so keep up the series!
Fusion is definitely my favorite game in the series. But let's not forget Hunters awesome for the time multiplayer.
Which echoes only refined
This video makes me appreciate Metroid so much much
I'm just glad Other M wasn't the last game in the series. That'd have been a depressing note to go out on.
I get people didn't like the way they portrayed samus's character and how she needed permission to use her abilities, but other than that, the game was great.
@@redfruitt2656 you mean the background info that was already in the Manga or fusion itself?
@@DryRockYT lol no it doesn't .Adam isn't the kind man that samus talks about but a heartless bastard with zero care for anyone
@@angellara7040 normally don't reply to stuff this much later, but here I go.
From what I remember of Other M, Adam isn't a kindhearted guy (save for maybe 1 or 2 moments). He doesn't joke around. He doesn't tolerate breaking protocol. He is a military leader, but he's still the only real role model that Samus had. But his hardness and Samus's hard headed essentially is what made her leave the Federation. Also, when he sacrifices himself, it's for no one but the mission. Yeah, he's not a kind man, but he's not evil. A man of duty, if you will
Rest in peace Metroid baby, mama Samus is proud

Thank you for saving the animals in Super Metroid.
It’s been so long since I’ve played Metroid games, but I just beat Metroid Dread and I remember now why I’ve always loved the franchise. Amazing story inside amazing games!
Great summary. Super helpful and fun!
You missed the "Save the animals" repercussion.
What song is that at 7:58, I really like that kind of music
Of all the videos not to use the chapter markers feature, how is this one of them?
I am SO HYPED for Prime 4! I hope it’s gonna be amazing!
It was known that the Chozo invented the Metroids long before Samus Returns. The only new thing it showed was that Evil Chozo with the arm canon.
Even the evil chozo isn't a new idea. They were introduced in blood of the chozo
@@novustalks7525 That's fair. I guess Samus Returns just canonized it since Blood of the Chozo isn't canon as far as I remember.
@@WoLfMaN74741 yep
Prime Hunters really was a blast, especially since I missed out on the prime trilogy

The “giant metroid “ on metroid 3 is Its called super metroid
And its actually the Baby :D
13:55 I guess you were right.
I'd love to see a halo timeline for halo infinite this December!
SPOILER ALERT
It actually does acknowledge Metroid Other M. If you beat the game in hard mode, you unlock more pictures in the gallery on Metroid Dread if you beat it in hard mode, and one of the photos is Metroid Other M, which, on the timeline, is between Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion.
I know people drag their feet on other m but when you explain it the way it pulls from the first game make it seem like a really good book "audible exclusive".
You left out the crucial detail of Samus literally becoming a metroid!
Well, that aged well, wonder what the timeline is gonna be like now
Keep in mind that "Other M," is kinda treated as an alternate interpretation of events, as it's been widely rejected as a Metroid game for a multitude of reasons (to say the least).
The Metroid Prime series are My all time favorite. I first got into Metroid VERY recently, and the first Metroid game I have played now is Metroid Prime, the first game. So far, I love the game! It reminds Me SOO much of Halo and Sonic. Two legendary games. While I have been struggling alot on the puzzles, I am starting to get the hang of it, I would say Im 30 - 45% on they way to finishing the game and moving on to METROID PRIME 2 AND 3!? I never even knew Metroid Prime had a sequel LET ALONE a third game!?
I really hope prime 4 is set after dread so we can actually have meaningfull choices and development
If you played prime 3 you know what prime 4 will be about
Outstanding video 🙌🏽 does anybody know the tune at 2:15?
Idk
Why is it so much to ask to just be able to play these in switch?
You can play some of them if you have membership, but they definitely should redo the whole series. It would be amazing to play an updated version of this series and have them fleshed out a bit better with the lore.
