Very cool lesson, just two minor things I noticed. I'm pretty certain the second note of the main riff is an A, rather than an A#. Then on the descent down, even though it does sound more intuitive the way that you teach it with the half step (B-A-B-A-B-C-B-A), Jimmy Page actually plays B-A-B-A-B-C#-B-A. Even more so than in the original recording this is very clearly audible at the 1977 Bonzo Solo/Out on the Tiles live. Cheers!

Check out Moby Dick from 7-17-1977 in Seattle. The opening is Out on the Tiles. If you watch you can clearly see Page slide up to the A# on the 6th fret of the E string before playing the 4th fret A and D strings with his index finger.

@@SpedSpedding Hahaha, you're humor kills me man. Your riffs are clean. What's not to like? I'm glad you are bringing Zeppelin to a new generation. When I was 15, just a little over 30 years ago, I started playing.... a few months later my sisters boyfriend lent me every Zeppelin album to copy. I still remember how floored I was. I discovered Jimmi Hendrix that same year........ it changed the way I thought about music. Have a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
Great to see another lesson Sped! It's great to see you giving Led Zeppelin the attention they deserve at the moment... I feel that it's becoming trendy to hate on Led Zeppelin and it's making me sad! You're a light in the darkness! ^a little over dramatic^
Thank you, I agree! I don’t trust people who trendy hate. They all know deep inside what they actually think, sad. That’s why I did the Stairway solo lesson; it’s an incredible song and an exceptional solo. “Ouhhh it’s overplayed….” Shhhhhh no it’s not.
Thanks for this Sped, excellent lesson, class song - the beating heart of IV I think. Could you drop a note sometime about the best way of getting the pinched harmonic at 5:40
Have a listen to Rival Sons' 'Pressure and time' ... Similar feel... Love both! Also fairly sure Zep used the intro from it on Black Dog on the ' Zep at the BBC' collection....
Haven't picked up my guitar in a year, been thinking about again, and my favorite Zep song pops up with this awesome lesson. This has to be some kind of message from the universe, but is it to eat pizza for breakfast or try and tune my dusty SG?
Awesome tutorial Sped! I’m more of bend from the “G” guy myself, but I won’t hold that against you 😂. All seriousness, you did a great job. I also love the information in the beginning!
@@SpedSpedding So I've been playing this song the past week (thanks to your tutorial I finished learning more than just the main riff) and I can say bending from the 4th fret sounds much better. You have converted me. congratulations 🎉🎸 Keep up the great work dude!
@@SpedSpedding you the only guitar teacher I have ever seen on RUclips, and I’ve seen them all…..that I believe you speak of what finger to use why which is so very important and is part of the incredible guitar “craft” or science…..that no one speaks about but I believe is a critical part of Jimmy page’s playing…..and other guitar players……where music is played on the neck with what fingers is everything….I believe…..and one of the keys to how these fantastic artists made this spectacular music in the first place…..they , like Jimmy, unlocked the god-given “secret code” …..I might have left out another teacher or two but I believe I am correct, sir.
Rang the bell, Subscribed, also Liked. Also Liked the Video.... Sped, You are fun to watch and learn from. I am always amazed by your tone. Any tone tips?

That’s real nice Jo, appreciate that. Will definitely consider all these for future. Got a few gear related things lined up this week and then will get some more lessons out. 🙌🏻
I’m going to have to change the way I play this song after watching this. Seems I was playing it in a more difficult way. Haha Great video as always, Sped! 👍🏻
@@SpedSpedding Yeah. Main riff. When you slide into the C# and then hit the F#. I was using my pinky finger to bar across them. It was a lot sloppier. Never occurred to me to slide into the C#.
Modern player in the same league as James Page I find is Dean Deleo from Stone Temple Pilots... Try Plush... A killer display of great interlocking riffs.... Though the version from about 3 years ago with a new vocalist is utterly spellbinding... Try it... Though you may have heard it.... Their first four albums are sublime
Well I've not watched this yet Sped..... Another epic Page riff.... You managed to find the slow blues on his solo album?.. .. Outrider I think it's called,... Happy Christmas dude!! X
Are you sure that riff has an A# sharp in it? making it Major sounds odd to me? I have always played this song with F# to an A keeping it in the pentatonic formation. I do put a bit of bend on the notes to blur the lines. but I think the riff Always stays in pentatonic. What is everyone else hearing? ( Thumbs up if you hear it in all pentatonic.)
Yeah I am, I actually started learning it with the Open A and was like "why does this feel slightly off?" I realised he's using a F# major arpeggio just like his verse riff in Good Times Bad Times. The riff feels cheeky as opposed to dark so makes sense that he's major over minor.
@@SpedSpedding Hmm... I agree open A does NOT quite sound right......However... Now try the riff with a 5th fret A (not open A) with a slight bend in it.. I think Jimmy is bending the 5th fret (A) which blurs the Major and Pentatonic lines. everything else you play is spot on! Great video thx

Haha, I reckon that there’s a huge jam session and solo and they kept it all to themselves, never to be heard. 🍿😂
Love that tune! Love that album!
Same Doug, it's a brilliant album!
Great lesson as always sped one of my fave Zep songs. Pagey did write a lot of bad ass riffs. Personally I like that Black Crowes album with Page. Merry Christmas to you & Gab my friend.
Thank you Joe, Jimmy definitely made a deal with the God of rock riffs! He has them in abundance. Merry Christmas to you too.🎄
Loving your lessons
Thanks Peter! 🙌🏻
What’s up Sped, thanks for your work!!!
Whattttt up. Thank you! 💪🏻
Great songs! Just joined the channel. Proud to support you and Gabs.
Ahhhh look at that little Sped Head emoji hanging out next to your name, looks awesome. Thanks Dennis!
Wow sped your a plethora of zep formation aren't ye right ok then, need that book ⁉️thanks again n best of luck with the groovy band .zep has so much .one of my favorites riffs in this one 🤩😳😁🎸🎵🎶🎵🎸✌️😎
The photo at the beginning is priceless.... out on the tiles..... lmao 🤣
Great tune
Hahaha amazing! Glad you liked it, you’re the first to comment! 🙌🏻🔥
@@SpedSpedding I applaud all the people who are brave enough to play stairway at a guitar shop! It's 'overplayed' for a reason damn it!
I´ve learned. Thank you.
Thanks Sped! 🎸😎
Welcome Keith. 🙏🏻
Another great video thanks for the lesson!
You’re welcome Paul, had fun with this one. ✨
Thanks for this Sped, excellent lesson, class song - the beating heart of IV I think. Could you drop a note sometime about the best way of getting the pinched harmonic at 5:40
I talk a little bit about pinched harmonics in my Journey solo lesson. Thumbnail in the sports car. 🙏🏻
Have a listen to Rival Sons' 'Pressure and time' ... Similar feel... Love both! Also fairly sure Zep used the intro from it on Black Dog on the ' Zep at the BBC' collection....
It’s the last thing they put on Spotify isn’t it? I might be wrong. All the BBC tracks?
I always learn something new about playing a Zep tune from His Spedishness and I’ve been playing since ‘78. Can you put Sick Again on the list? 🙏🏻
It’s on the list for sure. And I love that, thank you Mark. Keep rocking and having fun. 🤘🏻🎄
Who needs a solo when the whole song is one 🤔😁😳🎶🎵🎶✌️😎
Haven't picked up my guitar in a year, been thinking about again, and my favorite Zep song pops up with this awesome lesson.
This has to be some kind of message from the universe, but is it to eat pizza for breakfast or try and tune my dusty SG?
I am telling you to put down that pizza and pick up that guitar! You're not lost anymore soldier. 🙏🏻
Awesome tutorial Sped! I’m more of bend from the “G” guy myself, but I won’t hold that against you 😂.
All seriousness, you did a great job. I also love the information in the beginning!
We’ve got some serious work to do if we’re gonna get you up to that 4th fret. Come on, join my gang; you gotta pull it up to the roooooot.
@@SpedSpedding So I've been playing this song the past week (thanks to your tutorial I finished learning more than just the main riff) and I can say bending from the 4th fret sounds much better. You have converted me. congratulations 🎉🎸
Keep up the great work dude!
Excellent job, sir!
Thanks Eric!
These are the best zeplessons !!
Thank you, you’re too kind. 🙌🏻
Yay! One of my favorites. Nice!
Sweet Eddy, I chose wisely! 💪🏻😂
Amazing as usual! Thanks a lot man :D
My pleasure, you’re welcome.
I love your look on the demo when you hit the pinch harmonic, it’s like what? , Jimmy used pinch harmonics 🤣 oh yea here’s your beer 🍺 mate.
Hahaha, it’s like ☹️☹️☹️ pinched harmonics? Go on then! 😂
Finished my beer, thanks!
Great lesson as always!!
Epic, thank you! Had fun with this one. Hope you managed to brew up in the middle. 😂
🍻
Excellent lesson. One of my favorite Zep tracks. Pardon the mundane question but might I ask what strings you use on your Les Paul?
It's a 1998 Standard Honeyburst. If you want a bit more info on it check out my 57 PAF installation video!
Pure Ledge... ( Legend) thanks Sped
You’re welcome! Thanks for the hype. ✨💪🏻
Rang the bell, Subscribed, also Liked. Also Liked the Video.... Sped, You are fun to watch and learn from. I am always amazed by your tone. Any tone tips?
Thanks as always Bob. My tip will be to watch this channel over the next week or so as there will be a tone video dropping. 💪🏻💪🏻
Seeing Jimmy play out on the tiles with the black crows. I always thought Jimmy slides on the low E from #F to #A (or A) to #C, #F?
Thank you. I really enjoy watching you play. Any chance of getting you to play "How Many More Times"? Without all the breaks of course, unless you want to, feel free 🙂
That’s real nice Jo, appreciate that. Will definitely consider all these for future. Got a few gear related things lined up this week and then will get some more lessons out. 🙌🏻
I’m going to have to change the way I play this song after watching this. Seems I was playing it in a more difficult way. Haha
Great video as always, Sped! 👍🏻
Oh really? That’s interesting. Which way did you have it? We must be talking the main riff?
@@SpedSpedding Yeah. Main riff. When you slide into the C# and then hit the F#. I was using my pinky finger to bar across them. It was a lot sloppier. Never occurred to me to slide into the C#.
I've always been drawn to the odd, off-kilter sound of this opening riff. It's very simple and inventive. Very Page-y.
Yeah it is you’re right. It’s like, “Is it straight, is it swing? Is it rock? Roll?! What’s going on mate?” 🤣
This guy...... knows what he's doing.
You should teach us nobody’s fault but mine is one of my favorites
Awesome thanks bro
Sped awesome video. I you really do a lesson on In The Evening and or The Wanton Song
Thanks! They’ve been requested before and are on the conveyor belt. 😂 Hope you’re good!
Your videos are great!
Glad you like them Tim!
@@SpedSpedding love the humor and the accuracy. Thanks again
He's playing legato where there should be staccato. How long has it been since he listened to the song?!
Nice one Mark, I have heard a bit but never gone on a deep dive listening with focus. 🙌🏻 Will put some on over the holidays.
Sped, can you do a lesson on The Lemon Song? Love the content!
It’s definitely on the cards friend. 🍋
@@SpedSpedding thank you!
Well I've not watched this yet Sped..... Another epic Page riff.... You managed to find the slow blues on his solo album?.. .. Outrider I think it's called,... Happy Christmas dude!! X
Happy Christmas Mark! Yeah I’ve got that album, it’s cool. And yeah it is another epic Page riff. 💪🏻🍿
Mr Spedding are we gonna get an Achilles last stand transcribed for one guitar lesson like mr page did it live for xmas? 🎄🤘🏻
We might be able to squeeze it in, just in time for Christmas? 🎄😯
Excellent! Unfortunately "out on the tiles " it's underrated , I've always liked this song a lot .
Yeah a few people have said the same thing, I agree. Maybe the similarities with Black Dog and Good Times give it the cold shoulder. 😂
This kicks ass
Thanks Joshua, appreciate that. 🤘🏻
Could you make a white summer live at royal Albert hall lesson please!!!???
