This is, by far, the best tutorial I've ever seen. I mean that. I've been occasionally tooling around with this song since I first heard it at age 14 back in 1995. I have a "dad rock" band now and we're progressing to the point where we've been closely studying Zeppelin songs and trying to nail them (we do a mean "Out on the Tiles") but I digress. Your teaching method and overall approach/demeanor is absolutely perfect for the average player wishing to take it to the next level. I wanna thank you.

I don't get it either. Love this song & Bonham's drumming is Fantastic, this song once again proves the Brilliant Diversity that all 4 members were equipped with. In the Pearl Jam Documentary "Twenty" Bass Player Jeff Ament is sitting on a Bluff talking about his band wanting to be like Zeppelin and refers to "Chameleon" That's what Zeppelin was. You really can't put a label on them because of that Diversity. They could be anything they wanted in an instant.

Since when the album came out, I also thought it is was obvious that this song was intended to poke some good natured fun of 50's and early 60's pop.......similarly to The Crunge as a satire on James Brown's funk which was really popular at the time....( still is) It was like " Here you go folks.....Led Zepplin kicks the crap out of a standard early rock progression. " And they did. I loved the transition from this tune into " No Quarter". One of the best transitions in my album memories.

Incidentally, D'yer Maker shares the same chords as the Rosie and the originals Angel Baby song...Hence the reference to the end of the song on the original album.

7:15 "You're only ever going to hit the B to C (high E string) on the Am chord" (or something to that effect). This would be because your 4th finger almost cannot physically slide only to the C on the high E-string when at the same time your 3rd finger is sliding to the E on the G-string. But you can fix this by fingering the first sixth (that's the interval when you play the G-String and the E-string simultaneously like this), which on the Am chord is D and B, with the *reverse* fingering. That means start your slide on the Am part with the 3rd finger on the High E-string at B, and the 4th finger on the G-string at D. In this position, when you slide up, your 3rd finger naturally wants to stay behind at the 8th fret while the 4th finger, on the G-string, naturally wants to go ahead to the 9th fret, at E.

Nonetheless for a guitar player who's not familiar with this rhythm style, there's a good teacher on this vid. It's more a about to let flow the rhythm through chord fragments than a heavy fingering study. (much easier while on the beach under a hot sun and a cool breeze 😉)
