This is one of the better videos about playing guitar that I have seen in a while! I completely agree with you. It's not just guitar. This is great advice when it comes to learning how to do anything. If you try to force something, not only will you learn slowly but it more than likely will make you start to hate whatever it is you set out to get better at! Everyone learns differently. Until you realize what way you learn best, you will struggle to learn anything.

Only 5 minutes in, and this is why you are SOOOO much better than a LOT of the other guitar tutorial videos i have ever watched/learned from!!!
i have ALWAYS heard that one extra chord pop in the main climbing riff and it threw me off!!!...(but occasionally i think Jimmy drops it, so that makes me crazy!!!...)
Your teaching abilities, and putting in the extra touches, put you on the level of a guy named Michael Casswell, who was the most musical guitar instructor, of the vid company "Lick Library"...
Sadly he has passed away, but i say "musical guitar instructor" because, while there are other more shredder/technical guys in that company, Michael explained the structure, and the supporting parts, that made up THE SONG!!!..not just licks...
    Well done lad, carry on...👍🎸

Late one night on PBS Radio JAZZ I heard a tune with EXACTLY this riff on guitar with a horn section and piano that was played VERY early on by some legendary players...unfortunately the host would play around 4 to 6 tracks and then run down the names quickly as a matter of factly. It was always difficult to know who played what because only the names were given as a list. The tune was an instrumental with all the usual elements of jazz. This would have been while I was driving a route in 2013 or so.I was shocked at first, but then, Pagey is a gifted musical thief!

Fantastic lesson! One suggestion…during the samba section instead of the first mute hit the C on the 6th string 8th fret.
Also during the bouncy acoustic riff, instead of going to the B on the 3rd string, try this alternative: go an octave higher to the B on the 1st string 7th fret and descend using 6ths between the 1st and 3rd strings.

Getting ready to cover this. You have awesome explanations of these Zep songs and I think your Black Dog solo was the definitive reference for that, the right notes, bends, feel, and best positions. This lesson is equally useful. The talk of the "sneaky Am" threw me off though. I see that as an FMAJ7. I see the progression as straight up the chord scale... C-Dm7-Em7-FMAJ7-G. The FMAJ7 eliminates the need to throw a "sneaky Am" in there. It makes this elementary in every part (including the single note line choices). The main chord riff works on the 2-3-4 strings or on the 1-2-3 strings (which novice players might find easier because you can just lay your fingers across the 5th fret 1-2-3 for the FMAJ7). Btw, don't put me in the category of nitpicking commenter. I am just sharing my thoughts (as you asked). The second section was super helpful. The mod you made is a good one, especially for playing this without keys as I am about to do. The "Samba Section", I think is better played with an open C, and then F and G on the 1-2-3-4 strings (1st and 3rd frets respectively), and again allowing for the FMAJ7 to be played from (or before) that G by quickly barring the 1-2-3 strings on the 5th fret. Also, the fuller chords fill up the "Bamba Section" better and especially building back to the main riff. The single note licks you worked out are also awesome and helpful. Thanks again. Rock on.

I really like the way you modify the guitar part to make it more fun to play on your own, the vast majority of us out here are lone players without JPJ in the wardrobe waiting to pop out and play piano whenever it suits us. You really worked all this out in only two days?! You're even cleverer than I thought.
This is such a good tune, happy and upbeat and possibly my favourite drum rhythm of all. Must try and work out a passable version to play on cajon.

Still one of my favourite "underrated" Zep songs. I told my wife I'm going to quit my job to give me more time to get the Am change down. If a song is worth learning it's worth learning right! This song makes me wonder what kind of sounds Zep would have put out had ol what's his name not died. Anyways - thanks for the lesson my good sir. Also - did anyone else walk away humming La Bamba after this lesson...

    Hey mate,
Finally caught up to this one. I have to say that while wartching the beginning, once you should that cool, very, pic.. I had to stop and thumbs up and Subscribe! As for the reason I came to wartch😉....the glorious whistle..
Very interesting Sped, how the MLZ were able to keep certain things in a could of mystery...I had always thought it was Bonzo on that whistle, the way it coincides with the up beats of the drums...🤔 could still be a mystery, pretty adventurous for any rock band at the time and it definitely worked...

Pretty sure the solo is played through an EHX MicroSynth, and Jimmy was kind of playing fast and hard against the envelope trigger so you’d hear that super resonant sweep on the sustained notes. Fun pedal!

I wonder if the first three chords are not C Dm Em (raise the 5th a whole tone on the F and G triads) .... I played them along with the recording and sounded right to me but not sure. The Am triad is a nice subtlety I had not noticed. Thank you. Keep up the Zep...
